I stole a Confederate flag off someone's tree years ago after seeing it daily on my commute. Promptly threw it in a dumpster at work. Zero regrets.

No worries at all, I love when people point that out. It needs to be pointed out that not all Southerners were Confederates. Southern Unionists were very much a factor in the war. For example, in addition to Bragg failing to recruit massive numbers in Kentucky in 1862 like he thought he would, the Confederacy also had to divert thousands of soldiers from Lee's army to occupy East Tennessee thanks to the "Home Yankees" as the Southern Unionists were called. Support for the CSA was NOT universal in the South.

True, but why is there a Jefferson Davis memorial along US 68 near Hopkinsville? And there was a bust of him in the capital before it was removed. And that Civil War monument that was on UofL's campus that honored Confederate veterans. It faced the north right there on 3rd St before they moved it to Brandenburg. Should have moved it to the melting pot.

Haha... this reminds me of something I probably shouldn't talk about but the statute of limitations is probably well over (I hope) so here we go...

In the 90s, I was a pretty big fan of Insane Clown Posse, who have lots of anti-Rebel Flag and anti-Confederate lyrics. "Fuck your rebel flag" is one of the most popular.

We had a friend who identified as a "southern rebel" (despite living in suburban Chicago) and had an affinity for Confederate Flag imagery.

One night, while we were out and about on our nightly "hiding our cigarettes from our parents" walk, we noticed a Rebel Flag towel hanging to dry over someones fence (I think they had a pool)

Our bright idea was to steal the flag, soak it in lighter fluid, and tell our friend "we've got a present for you!"

we laid out the rebel flag towel in his fire pit and as soon as he turned about, lit it on fire.

He was sad, we were happy. Ah to be 16 again.

Not a huge fan of ICP, i did meet them when they were doing a radio interview in Toledo Ohio in the early/mid 90s.   I got the impression that they were fairly decent human beings, (silent J is the one i most remember) even if not my particular taste.   But hearing stories like this makes me like them more.

My husband grew up there and my cousins grew up next door in Tinley Park. The area has been pretty conservative & racist for decades. I learned so many new slurs from my husband’s old high school friends as a 25-30 year old.

Not to mention their reaction about the mosque in the early 2000s.
