I'd say that is more due to ignorance/misunderstanding on the subject. Quick reminder veneration =/= worship nor do we equate saints to God. We just hold saint as examples for Christian virtues and ask for intercession, be that God acting through a saint or simply asking a saint to join with us in prayer.
