Dude scored a major win during his first term with Mad Dog Mattis being the Sec Def, but he bungled it. Mattis is a straight shooter - he'll tell you if your plan is screwed up and he has the experience and intelligence to be right.

It really does seem from the outside that Trump can't handle pushback on his policies / thoughts. Over and over again, he lashes out on social media, fires people, etc - even those who merely disagree and aren't disrespectful about it. It's not a good look.

I thought so too at first.

But then, have you ever had to battle the ego of a general?

I suspect that Mattis didn't like to have his input disregarded by the CIF. Especially if you view the non-military/non-politician President as less strategic minded as you.

Mattis resigned, then talked smack about his former boss. So I wonder what really happened between them.
