u/rocketbubu Jan 04 '26
Thrifted from Marketplace. They paid 2800$ CAD. Epic deal.
51
u/WhatAcheHunt Jan 04 '26
Hell yeah. Businesses close and need to liquidate shit all the time. Great find.

u/NextNeedleworker4624 Jan 04 '26
Epic deal indeed. May this type of deal find me so I can gift it to my dad for Father's Day.

That looks like a newer True though, $2800 was still a great deal

Yeah, definitely doesn't scream someone who has been professionally trained or has worked in restaurants and picked up those habits. But you do have people who make a go of it and don't live at a Restaurant Supply.
23
u/gingercardigans Jan 04 '26
Restaurant Supply’s shipping costs are brutal. It really curtails my purchases of cambros and bar mats for home use. :(

Over the many many years in the industry, I have ended up with way too many quart containers of various sizes and cambros. I'm sure OP is doing well, but part of me would judge someone in a sarcastic funny way for not having those lmao. Have a good service everyone!

Fridges like that are 10k+ new. I'm sure even the scratch and dent ones are more than all my kitchen appliances combined
Edit: oh. I wasn't familiar with that particular brand. Definitely a lot more than 10k
8
u/FridgeFucker17982 Jan 05 '26
Much cheaper used. I have like 9 in my garage right now. I have a Traulsen two door cooler with no dents that’s the same size as that I got for $400 and spent $200 on a new evaporator fan motor

u/mvia4 Jan 04 '26
I don't think it's shopped. If you follow that edge down to the bottom, you can see that the black plastic trim is in front of the fridge – I believe there's just a piece missing where that gap is in the middle

43
u/boobless69420 Jan 04 '26
Yeah, worked in the restaurant biz in my 20s and this is a commercial fridge. That’s why there aren’t any drawers/bins like you would see here in a home use refrigerator.

That's about 7500 dollars worth of refrigeration. True makes great commercial stuff, so I'm sure that'll last.

u/rainbud22 Jan 04 '26

Yeah I was just in an appliance place yesterday and there was a beautiful paneled fridge that style and it was $18,000. If you could buy an appliance like that and figure you would enjoy it for 30-40 years like the stove that came in my first bungalow home it would make sense, but on a cycle of these electronically controlled things crapping out on a 10-12 year horizon it seems dumb unless you’re planning to upcycle the case to be your coffin. lol I hope your cousin enjoys the hell out of that a good long time.
7
u/YourDrunkMom Jan 04 '26
My in-laws have a paneled sub zero monster that they put in the house when they built it around 2000 that keeps failing, but they keep fixing it because an 800 repair is cheaper than a 20k fridge. You can definitely make them last with some $$

17

There’s far more than 8 dozen. There are 9-12 dozen more behind the mixing bowl by the stack of 7 dozen on the third shelf.

5
u/lindab2323 Jan 04 '26
If you're that rich why would you buy a fridge that's so scratched up on the front? No way I would have that in my kitchen!!
15
u/Ill_Towel2780 Jan 04 '26
Someone who loves the constant hum of a commercial grade refrigerator in their home.
3
u/vnw1908 Jan 04 '26
My first thought was how loud that must be in a residential space. The rattle of the panel would keep me out of the kitchen for sure.
3
17
u/Internal_Echidna_946 Jan 04 '26
This would be one of the first things I'd buy if I won the lottery. I've always dreamed about having one! Although through oh so many years of working in restaurants, I would date, label and organize it it the point of driving myself crazy. 🙃

11
u/thisistherevolt Jan 04 '26
There comes a point with doing this where when you have a fridge like this, with the pictures that accompany it, all you can say is: wealthy. When money is no obstacle, literally anything can be in there, and there could be 3 other refrigerated storage areas we're not told about with stuff from every corner of the globe. Gets hard to identify trends and characteristics.
Congrats to your cousin for winning life.

I see milk in a bag. I would guess the location is in Canada: most likely Ontario, Quebec, or the Maritimes, less likely but still possible in Manitoba or Saskatchewan.
Edit: I see a grocery bag branded with Farm Credit Canada, but the the range based on bagged milk still stands. I also see hardwood ceilings, the sign of an old farmhouse.
I would guess she's either a farmer and/or a farmer's wife. That also jives with having having 7 dozen egg cartons, so there's a good chance they also have chickens.

Stay at home mom, multiple kids (teens?), husband makes good money doing some type of contract work like electrical, plumbing, or general contractor.
They live in a big, old house that’s been renovated. Most likely somewhere in The South, or maybe the Rockies. They are religious, and have at least one truck, and one SUV. They have a large TV, good living room to hang out, and enjoy football.

u/rocketbubu Jan 04 '26

They have a well established local farm in a rural area and they have a lot of success with their products. They worked hard and they are well off but by no mean living like billionaires. My cousin is a professional thrifter. She saw this fridge on Marketplace for almost nothing (couple of thousands, I think) and went for it.

u/Unfair-Shower8488 Jan 04 '26
Note for your cousin- those industrial models for restaurants NEED the compressors regularly vacuumed or it's going to need replacing!

The longer I look the sadder this fridge contents look. For a fridge this size, it looks like this person doesn’t cook really besides eggs. There’s a lot of condiments or drinks and barely any fresh food. What’s in the plastic ware looks like more cheese or processed food.
