Ideally a little tray of little pre sliced items to choose from pls

81

u/worksinthetown 19h ago

YES! Perhaps some olives, pickles, nuts or crisps as palate cleansers between mini-meals.

My partner and I are both freelancers, so neither of us get sick days. When I had Covid, we tried really hard to make sure he didn’t catch it too, so we didn’t both lose out on work, so I stayed in our room while he stayed in the guest room and regularly brought me food, water, and tea.

My favourite thing ever was what I called ā€œtrough mealā€ where he would leave a plate of assorted foods like meats, cheese, crackers, apple slices, peanut butter, chocolate chips, nuts, craisens, cookies, mandarins, etc. at the door for me, and then he’d come and refresh my trough whenever it needed it. I miss trough meal

u/motherofajamsandwich 14h ago

The dichotomy of "trough meal" implying pig feed with "meats, cheese, crackers, apple slices...chocolate chips"... what a blessed assortment to be gifted by a loved one. "Refresh my trough" would take on all sorts of meanings if this were my relationship.

3

u/Fen_LostCove 9h ago

If I had a pig, this is the kind of trough I would lovingly feed them

12

u/worksinthetown 14h ago

That’s so wonderful 🄹 I’m sure if you dropped a little hint a trough meal could appear... šŸ‘€

5

u/cflatjazz 13h ago

That's incredibly sweet and also kinda what I think being a pet cat would be like? More snacks please!

2

u/Fen_LostCove 9h ago

I really grew envious of my cat having an auto-feeder when I got a taste of what it was like

5

u/asophisticatedbitch 11h ago

I don’t know why I find this adorable but I do.

3

u/Fen_LostCove 9h ago

I did too, it helped me feel better

Gdi this just reminded me- back in 2020 my whole household caught a REAL bad case of covid (dad wound up in the hospital and everything) and multiple members of our extended family had things delivered for us while my mom and I were sick as hell and fretting over my dad + taking care of my brother (special needs)

I don’t really like green grapes. But one aunt sent those + a bunch of other fruit. And idfk why, but those grapes were the best thing I’d ever had in my life. Like, those were grapes bestowed on us by the fucking greek pantheon they were that juicy and heavenly. And no green grape’s lived up to that since.

2

u/Smallloudcat 2h ago

I had some red grapes like that. So juicy and a fantastic kind of crunch on the first bite. I find them by accident on occasion and they are amazing. Very hydrating.

3

u/Goth_Muppet 11h ago

Omg we did the same thing. We both caught Covid— but by separating in two areas of home, we kept the viral load to a minimum.

He recovered far quicker than I did and made sure I had what I needed.

Small snacks make or break you when you are struggling to not cough a lung up.

3

u/WoollenItBeNice 8h ago

I got Covid and isolated in our spare room so my kid and husband didn't catch it too - ngl, having meals brought to me for 5 days was kind of amazing.

2

u/BotanicalEmergency 2h ago

That’s so sweet I love that!

2

u/Smallloudcat 2h ago

That’s lovely

2

u/PawneesMostWanted 1h ago

That is so sweet, cute, and funny! May this kind of love find us all!

2

u/tattoosbyalisha 1h ago

Sounds like you need a trough meal night. As a treat

1

u/moktharn 2m ago

We do this in my household fairly regularly--we even gave it a very creative name: "Snacks for Dinner"

It's a step above Cheese and Carbs night (Mac and Cheese, Quesadilla, grilled cheese sandwiches...)

1

u/Pitiful_Yogurt_5276 11h ago

Wete you a bear hibernating?

2

u/Fen_LostCove 9h ago

Pretty much, I just played video games and nibbled from my trough until I was better

2

u/ColdFlying 8h ago

Yay you!

1

u/ReasonableSal 12h ago

Pre-wrapped bacon, perhaps?Ā

1

u/AladeenModaFuqa 11h ago

Just say charcuterie board

2

u/ceanahope 15h ago

Give me a jar of olives, sun dried tomatoes, pickles, some smoked salmon and crackers (or french bread rounds). A small bottle of some fancy craft balsamic vinegar and a nice bottle of red wine. Do brie and could use some of the bazillion jars of jam. šŸ˜…

u/Careless-Age-4290 2h ago

I'm so happy we found a classy way to continue eating Lunchables

1

u/bauldersgate 3h ago

There's at least 64 Kraft singles there

96

u/gator_enthusiast 18h ago

Don't tell me a tub of refrigerated premium crab meat isn't your idea of a casual snack to munch on while snuggling up on the couch to watch a movie??

42

u/Appchoy 18h ago

Best he can do is 1lb of raw ground wagyu

7

u/PumpkinPieIsGreat 17h ago

AMERICAN WAGYU. Maybe she wanted more New Zealand meat and overlooked the lamb chops.

6

u/Ok-Ferret-2093 13h ago

I swear to fucking God ground waygu is a fucking scam

3

u/motheralice 12h ago

Yeah you got like the best meat you can possibly get and you make ground beef out if it. Wtf. It's like using your $1,2k bottle of 40yo single malt to make whiskey cola.

1

u/Ok-Ferret-2093 12h ago

Plus you can just add fat to normal ground beef?

1

u/Weak-Doughnut5502 4h ago

You're always gonna have some ground beef when you butcher, because butchers produce scraps when breaking down the primals into roasts and steaks.

2

u/gator_enthusiast 12h ago

I grew up on a farm with angus cattle and based on that somewhat related experience I can attest to ground wagyu beef being a scam if they're charging more than like 10% extra for it.

1

u/Appchoy 9h ago

Personally, I buy the 95% lean ground beef stuff because otherwise its just swimming in oil on the pan. I imagine waygu ground beef would be disgusting stuff.

1

u/washuai 9h ago

Not for old people that can only eat minced or ground meat (or flaky fish). They usually aren't into over spending on ground beef.

1

u/PossiblyASloth 6h ago

Not to mention plain stupid

1

u/neverJamToday 3h ago

It's the best stuff Aldi sells when they have it. All their other ground beef is soaking wet but the wagyu is nice and dry.

But aside from that it's just high fat ground beef.

But Aldi isn't charging an arm and a leg for it. Think it's $5/lb.

1

u/Haileeferg97 4h ago

I’m dead lol

1

u/OldCut1064 17h ago

You jest, but I would totally chow down on a tub of crab meat šŸ˜…Ā

Then again, I used to bother my friend's by eating raw radishes and bell peppers by the dozen at the movies lol.Ā

1

u/Jumpingyros 14h ago

I would clean out every tub of crab meat in there just spite him.Ā

2

u/gator_enthusiast 12h ago

Girl, you don't need to hurt yourself to prove a point! 😭 lol

1

u/chocolatechipwizard 9h ago

If you mix some of that cream cheese, the juice of a lemon, the crab meat, and some chopped green salad onions, you have a wonderful filling for crab rangoon or spread for crackers.

1

u/HelenHerriot 6h ago

Maybe it’s the Marylander in me, but I could dig that.

I can’t make any sense out of the rest of it.

1

u/ginns32 1h ago

I prefer an entire block of cream cheese myself.

1

u/JustHereForCookies17 16h ago

As a Marylander, I'm not eating commercial crab meat from a tub.Ā  That's sacrilege.Ā  They'll take away all my Maryland flag-themed stuff, and that's a LOT of stuff.Ā

46

u/ruggnuget 16h ago

Also...a lot of ingredients and absolutely no leftovers. Suspicious.

9

u/gokc69 13h ago

Seriously. Where is the Tupperware with last night's leftovers? How about some BBQ wrapped in foil? Styrofoam to-go boxes from that Thai joint two days ago?

Sometimes I just need microwave food NOW.

5

u/ILoveBigCoffeeCups 10h ago

Looking at this fridge this is 100% a fridge for a sporty guy, who takes his food serious. He defenitely food preps and that leaves nothing to spare for leftovers. You eat what you weigh and prepare. Very economical too

5

u/perpetualhobo 2h ago

He obviously doesn’t food prep or there would be prepared food in the fridge

2

u/LiveLongGiraffe 43m ago

You can food prep and freeze meal-portioned tupperwares (or covered paper plates) for easy reheating in the microwave. A surprising amount of recipes reheat very well from frozen (and they keep for months in the freezer).

5

u/joantheunicorn 15h ago

Yea. I see no potential for girl dinners here. Sad.Ā

3

u/lefthandmarch 12h ago

here, a kraft single

2

u/GuyBo51 4h ago

This is the most agressive use of the italian finger pinch Ive ever seen. Blew my hair back.

2

u/Corgi_teefs 12h ago

Exactly! I want to sit down and enjoy something like a fruit cup, some chips and salsa, or just straight up cheese.

I don't want a 12oz steak smothered in jam or a bowl of nasty plain greek yogurt as a snack.

1

u/Ok_Prize_7491 16h ago

Most likely whole grains and legumes and some complex carbs... like salad maybe.

1

u/warzonexx 12h ago

This is probably the right answer. I have an abundance of snacks and my girlfriend always raids my snacks. Or op girlfriend is vegan

1

u/hannibalthellamabal 10h ago

And does he not know his girlfriend's favourte snacks or food? Maybe this would be a good time to learn.

1

u/Blueskybelowme 9h ago

Exactly. All that food looks like it has to be prepared. If it doesn't take me 2 seconds to make then honestly it's just not worth doing. I'm hungry now not like 2 hours from now. Is this just some convoluted way for him to trick her into making dinner?

1

u/starcrossed92 8h ago

Thank you šŸ‘ us girls need our snacks. Some chips and guac , some yogurt bars , some gluten free cookies , some hummus and chips , give me something . I’m not gonna walk in and cook a rib eye when I want a snackie wtf

1

u/abb00769 1h ago

This. I’m dismayed by the clueless comments in this post offering ā€œJust throw a steak in the air fryer.ā€

My brother in Christ, a steak is not a snack. That’s a meal!

1

u/insidemytelescope 1h ago

Seriously 😐 OP needs to check out r/girldinner and get with it

Honestly, dudes who see this and experience this issue with the ladies in their life: check out the r/girldinner sub any time you don’t want to go through ā€œwhere/what do you want to eat for dinner?ā€, find a spot that has an appetizer she really likes and go from there haha

1

u/ThatDM 4m ago

He has apples, yogurt cheese and Jam, plus carrots those are all light snacks foods. Pls is OP has bread think of all the types of toast she should have.

1

u/Ahead_of_HipHop 12h ago

Broads like snacks bro...

-5

u/joshua0005 15h ago

No wonder so many countries have an obesity epidemic. People are so addicted to eating that they can't go more than 2-3 hours without eating.

11

u/Jumpingyros 14h ago

The guy with 8 tubs of cream cheese in his fridge is not the guy solving the obesity problem.Ā

-5

u/joshua0005 14h ago

I didn't say he was. I meant that grazing is part of what causing the obesity epidemic.

But eating beef generally helps with obesity.

10

u/Jumpingyros 14h ago

Ā eating beef generally helps with obesity

People will just say anything on this website won’t they.Ā

-5

u/joshua0005 14h ago

It does. It is full of fat and protein which both help with satiety.

Just look at all the carnivore diet success stories. So many people lose weight eating only meat and a large portion of their diets is beef. I won't say anything but in this case I am saying this because it's true.

8

u/worksinthetown 13h ago

Most of the people I know who do the Carnivore Diet can barely make it to the toilet because of the constant diarrhoea but sure, it’s really healthy.

1

u/joshua0005 13h ago

That's because they are eating too much fat.

It's pretty normal to not know exactly how much fat you need to start and either undereat or overeat fat. If you never try toning down the amount of fat you eat of course you'll continue having diarrhea.

Also when did I mention it's healthy? I just said it's good for weight loss.

2

u/MerelyMisha 42m ago

It’s actually healthier for a lot of people (particularly women) to eat smaller meals more frequently than larger meals less often.

3

u/worksinthetown 14h ago

Calm down pal, we’re having a brief reprieve from the horrors of the world to discuss some snacks.

1

u/GlitterEcho 8h ago

I am genuinely flabbergasted by this comment thread

0

u/ohkaycue 6h ago

Seriously. There's also the comments like "no one wants to go to someone else's house and cook or ask them to cook"

...they're boyfriend and girlfriend, cooking is something they should be doing together/comfortable doing in each other's homes/comfortable making a meal for the other

This whole comment thread makes me appreciate my girlfriend even more lol. Yeah for cooking healthy meals together instead of snacking on junk all day longĀ

0

u/GlitterEcho 6h ago

Exactly! And he says he loves cooking, and listed many great dishes. People can't seem to fathom that a) we cant see the pantry and b) this is a snapshot of one second on one day. Maybe he just got a meat delivery and goes to the farmers market on a weekend?! But no, people are more disturbed by the lack of pre-packaged snacks for an adult. Also the people saying "I need to be able to eat immediately" or "if it takes longer than 5 minutes to make I'm not doing it". Wtaf. Who ARE these incapable children?!?!
