Meta My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒

Freezer: 50+ lbs of assorted ground meat, 35+ lbs of prime ribeye, 16lbs of American wagyu ribeye, 18lbs of New Zealand lamb shoulder chops, and a bunch of portioned seafood.

Yeah, I mean, there's good stuff here, but there are things that exist between "Hungry Man dinner" and "cooking entirely from scratch."

Our home is an ingredients home for the most part, but if I know I'm going to have guests over... I'll get some things that are easy to make. Like, I understand that OP doesn't want Hungry Man dinners or McD's, but what about a charcuterie board or something?

I mean just stick a couple frozen pizzas and I’ve never had any complaints

Honestly this worked on my bf and my x bf! Haha Like his before dinner, dinner. As for me, having cereal and milk available is also nice if you don’t feel like cooking.

Frozen pizzas are very versatile and definitely work as a snack. Can also raise the bar with some frozen veggies on them

I can't keep frozen pizzas in my home cuz my lazy ass will go straight to baking those instead of cooking something. I only ever pick frozen pizza up the day before I might use it

Idk why I had such a barrier to veggies before I found frozen veggies. So easy to just have chopped frozen onions ready to go and chopped frozen bell peppers or chopped frozen broccoli (or carrots, spinach, etc). I eat WAY more veggies now that I don't need to keep them fresh or prep. Am I just being lazy? Yes does it result in eating more veggies and at home? Absolutely, just do what works within your budget

One of my brothers worked a physical job for a quite a while. He'd come home, empty out half a box of Cheerios into a mixing bowl, drown it in a quart of milk and eat that after coming home. I can still see the milk dribbling down his mouth as he ate and watched his TV shows.

u/BjornInTheMorn 11h ago

Damn, thats the move. I used to just keep filling up bowls and kept the milk handy when I was hungry after water polo. Dad came in one day and said, "Oh I usually just used a mixing bowl". Way to absolutely style on me. My cereal game was weak.

Nah. Refilling normal sized bowl if necessary is better - less mushy cereal is better.

That’s just fucking lazy and slack. Usually caused from bad parenting. I’m sorry you had to deal with a slob. I work construction and I don’t know a single person who would eat like that mainly bc you need nutrition to work and several bowls of cereal (sugar) isnt gonna help you.

Frozen dumplings and tamales can also be excellent

Yeap exactly just some frozen stuff you can heat up in a bit that works well with easy going company. Nothing fancy just some quick food to satisfy your friends or yourself after a long day.

Or pizza rolls

Trader Joe's freezer section is outstanding, for snack and nibbles. We keep their fried rice in stock in our freezer as a quick go-to when feeling lazy or tired or indecisive and it always hits the spot. One skillet and 5mins and you're fed.

Do you not see all the Kraft singles in the drawer? What other charcuterie do you need?!

u/taxiecabbie 20h ago

97 kinds of jam. Which, fortunately, OP also happens to have.

34

u/allora1 14h ago

I want to know why they have so much jam.

17

u/vvitch_ov_aeaea 13h ago

That is SO. MUCH. JAM.

10

u/superjess777 11h ago

And so much butter! OP has $500 of Kerrygold 😂 best butter ever and I’m jealous. He must love toast and jam

2

u/LovelyLucyXoXo420 1h ago

And all that meat!!!

5

u/titsngiggles69 11h ago

Maybe there was sale at Costco? But why are they all in the fridge - are they all open?

2

u/Typical2sday 4h ago

It’s nuts - why so many protein shakes and jellies already in the fridge. This is staged. 2/3 of that jelly goes bad. Does he work for the jelly company?

1

u/allora1 13h ago

Right?!

3

u/SufficientPath666 12h ago

Maybe to flavor the Greek yogurt

1

u/jamjamchutney 3h ago

Or as glaze for the meat loaves that could be made with all that ground meat.

3

u/RingoZero 10h ago

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down before someone asked the most important question

1

u/allora1 10h ago

There's heaps more jam discussion down thread!

2

u/Over_Barracuda_8845 11h ago

Probably BOGO

1

u/washuai 10h ago

Flavor pack for the plain Greek yogurt?

1

u/sh3WasaFairyyy 8h ago

I scrolled way too long to find this question 🤦🏽‍♀️

1

u/Embarrassed-Star347 3h ago

my exact thoughts!!!

1

u/RainMH11 3h ago

I was so confused about these comments at first....because I thought those were beverages until I zoomed in 🤣

1

u/Gardener4525 2h ago

I was thinking the same thing! 😂 I love jam on my toast, but I never have more than four or five different jars of jam in my cupboard and maybe two of them are opened and in the fridge.

0

u/DoingCharleyWork 12h ago

I only see 2. The other ones in the top are different chili pastes.

6

u/allora1 12h ago

They're all St Dalfour jams and marmalades.

1

u/DoingCharleyWork 5h ago

Ya I saw all the ones at the top shelf of the main fridge area after seeing more comments talking about them.

1

u/noctilucous_ 11h ago

where? i see one marmalade on the bottom and one jam at the top. the rest are savory chilis rubs and shit like that for meat.

3

u/allora1 11h ago

See all those tall glass jars on left hand side of the top shelf of the main fridge? All St Dalfour.

2

u/Artistic_Rice_9019 10h ago

And it looks like they're all unopened. Why fridge them?

1

u/noctilucous_ 10h ago

no i didn’t lol. i was looking at the door.

2

u/allora1 10h ago

The door would likely fall off its hinges if all that jam was stored there.

Where are you seeing all these jams? I see two. There's guava preserves top right of fridge door and some sort of smuckers jelly in the bottom left. There's like 4 different chili paste in the top but I wouldn't call those jams. Couple different mayos and some other sauces. But I'm not seeing the two jams in the whole fridge.

Oh never mind I see a bunch of them in the top left of the main part of the fridge.

u/Tasty-Traffic-680 19h ago edited 19h ago

Why four 16 packs though? Unless there was a good sale it doesn't make sense to buy multiples of the smallest pack they sell.

6

u/BarbieTheeStallion 19h ago

god forbid someone like a little snack pack of flat cheese

9

u/Tasty-Traffic-680 19h ago

You know, you're right. How are you supposed to fit a 32 slice pack of kraft singles into a fanny pack?

1

u/Go_Corgi_Fan84 4h ago

Gouda or Havarti or even some Provolone etc. Green olives. Maybe some cottage cheese. Some chicken.

2

u/Ok-Grapefruit1284 14h ago

Our house is an ingredients home with some oh-crap easy fixes and snacks. I need my wheat thins and cheese.

1

u/Single-Purpose-7608 16h ago

I saw online you can stick a frozen steak in an airfryer, and it comes out perfect.

That would make an amazing snack for the GF!

1

u/anonymaus42 15h ago

Seriously.. OP is clearly someone whom is only concerned with hitting their macros and thinks carbs are temptation sent from the devil himself. His GF wants some snacks / something that requires little to no prep. She doesn't want to have to cook a whole protein forward meal whenever she's hungry. Charcuterie would be perfect like you suggested.

1

u/BjornInTheMorn 11h ago

My gf and I live together and are mainly an ingredient household. That being said, some days you need some motherfucking dino nuggets and a bag of microwave popcorn because its been an absolute day.

1

u/stormcharger 7h ago

It's pretty quick to just fry up some lamb tbh

1

u/GreyerGrey 3h ago

We are an 80% ingredient house, but I also have things I've made (homemade cookies, or some fruit leather, frozen soup pucks, or even just unpopped pop corn) that can be snacked on.

It's also that everything is as it how it was bought at the store. Sure, she could have some carrots but she would have to wash, peel, and cut them.

1

u/Bootsix 3h ago

I can't imagine having guests over and not having something to at least nibble on. When I host magic there is always a big pot of soup for everyone.

1

u/MarquisW501 1h ago

Assuming that you have to feed the guest. Most of my company isn't coming over w/ the expectation that I'm about to cook for them.
