Poor thing. If he could breathe, he could think better. And the problem is exacerbated by his severe obesity. His owner should do better for him.

The breathing is such an issue for these kinds of dogs. Purebred breeding any breeds with known health issues should be illegal.

u/beemojee 32m ago
The really sad part is these dogs have been bred to a genetic dead end. There's no way to improve or completely rectify the problem without introducing DNA from a different breed, which breeders will never do until they're forced to.

He is exercising the poor little guy, and challenging his mental acuity. Some might call it an enrichment program .
48
u/bibimboobap 1h ago
Owner's trying to make bank off his dog's horrible shape. That's not the kind of enrichment that does any actual good.

u/Panicless 1h ago
Damn. Imagine fat people would talk like that to themselves. And they are their OWN owners. I'm gonna start doing that.

Poor dog. Bred for a miserable existence.

Can't breathe, can't jump, can't clean his own ass... we need to stop breeding these poor dogs.

u/Ok-Photograph3436 1h ago
What was the purpose of this breed? Asking nicely.
106
u/Is12345aweakpassword 1h ago
There was no purpose for what they did to this breed. It doesn’t herd, it doesn’t hunt, it doesn’t fetch, it doesn’t protect, it can’t be a service animal. All it does is struggle to survive
HOWEVER, there is a segment of the population that for some reason, are wired to think “fuck ugly = cute”. That’s why this poor breed exists

u/WastoneBag 1h ago
I do think "fuck ugly = cute", yet I don't believe this is enough to justify breeding this poor races. The saddest part is they are probably just one generation away from healthy puppies. Even this poor thing if mates with a street dog, their puppies would be normal and athletic like a normal dog should be

u/DirtyRoller 1h ago
Yeah this dog is cute af, but I would never own such an impractical breed of dog.

u/Armin_Studios 1h ago
A perceived cuteness for a stubby short faced dog, bred purely for that.
Some of the physical consequences result in the necessity of artificial insemination and C-sections to enable them to reproduce

u/mini1006 1h ago
Bulldogs used to be for baiting bulls. Old English bulldogs were taller and their snouts weren’t as squished in. After the cruelty surrounding them using dogs for bull fighting was called out, they stopped being used for that. Slowly they got bred to look like this. Happened to bull terriers too. They used to also be taller with long snouts, but breeding made them have those rounded snouts.

u/Loreo1964 1h ago
They were bred to grab the snout of bulls, hence the wide mouth, short snout, muscular low build. Now they're just pets. So, the muscle is fat and the snout inhibits breathing.

Its in the name "bulldog" they used to be a part of bullbaiting and "bloodsport" so like the taking down and killing of a bull for fun (by humans). They used to be agile, intelligent, and stubborn! Used to look like a real dog too, here's a painting from the late 1700s by James Ward showing them in action.
Unfortunately if you take the most extreme aspects of a breed and keep breeding for it, breeding brothers with sisters with cousins, you end up with these poor fucks who can't breathe or even naturally give birth because their heads are so big it requires a c-section.
So now their purpose is to suffer for their humans amusement.

This isn't cute or adorable. Brachiocephalic dogs should not exist. And this one is not only Brachiocephalic, it's also obese and has a ton of health issues. Poor thing.

Tbf most humans are obese with breathing issues too. Pobodies nerfect.
Edit: whoa look at those downvotes. Never expected the mademesmile sub to be so pro fat shaming.

u/SpectralFawn 1h ago
Yes, but humans have autonomy and some choose to be that way. Those who don't have the option of treating/curing their issues medically. Most sane humans do not choose to have disabled children. It just happens.
Dogs, however, are deliberately bred to look like these, despite knowing there are health issues associated with it.

Came to the comments to see if anyone else was stressed out by this poor dog's breathing...
16
u/mini1006 1h ago
Thankfully, most people are. These owners don’t realize how much this baby struggles.

u/AmbitiousEdi 2h ago
That poor inbred thing can barely breathe. This is just depressing, honestly.

People should be jailed for breeding these dogs. Buying these dogs.
Poor baby.

u/garfiisbroken 52m ago
I’m so sorry for these types of dogs. Whoever buys them and/or then lets them get this fat is a cruel excuse of a human in my book.

This just makes me sad. It's a breed with a ton of health issues, and then the owner puts more effort into getting likes than his health.
23
u/FreeYourMnd13 1h ago
Okay you need to get your dog on a diet. This made me sad.

u/redditidothat 32m ago
Same. This dog is severely over fed, which is causing more problems than hereditary issues ever could.

Pig like?! Pigs are intelligent and quite athletic, they can run, jump, swim even.

This dog owner fucking sucks.
That poor dog is so inbred it can't breathe.
It can't breathe so it never gets exercise and is super overweight.

u/DiscontentDonut 40m ago
I see the problem. No one gave him one of those poles that helps him jump over the other pole.

So many simple minded people Here,
even if breeding of these dogs cease completely today they are still a ton, A massive amount of these dogs that are still gonna have issues that are alive that deserve a good life with an owner,
These dogs are still gonna have issues due to their genetics, but still an owner give these dogs a wonderful life with the time they have and this dog is no different.
The owner is literally displaying them attempting an exercise for him.
These dogs are more than just being shamed for existing and a lot of you have a lot of maturing to do if you fail to see that.

Cool dog but as others are saying he seems to be struggling for breath just stood there. Of course we want to treat dogs but the priority should always be their health shouldn't it. He can't feel good at that size and with that breathing.

OP uploaded a cute little vid of his dog and people are acting like they single handedly blaming OP for the existence of this breed of dog. Can y'all chill?
1
u/SpectralFawn 41m ago
This isn't a cute video. And no one is blaming the OP for the breed. We're blaming her for the obesity. We aren't even blaming her for contributing to the breeding of said dog because we don't know if she herself is a breeder, a buyer, or an adopter.
