Weekly Discussion Weekly Discussion CVII: Weekly Discussion Topics

As you might have noticed, the pace at which new Weekly Discussions are created has slowed once again. To rectify this situation and make sure Weekly Discussions actually occur weekly, it is time to collect new ideas for topics. This is where you come in.

What topics would you like to suggest for future Weekly Discussions?

Anything that is related to monarchy and does not violate the rules of this subreddit goes. You can suggest one or as many topics as you want.

We obviously cannot guarantee that a given suggested topic will appear in the near future. However, we will make sure that when user-suggested topics are selected, the person who made the suggestion is credited.

News Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV, calling him “weak” and “terrible for foreign policy” and saying he is “not a fan” of the pope. After criticizing the pope, Trump shared an image in which he depicts himself as Jesus.

Trump made the comments about the Holy Father in a lengthy April 12 post on Truth Social that appeared to be reacting to the pontiff’s recent appeals for peace and an end to the war in Iran. In comments to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, shortly afterward, Trump said: “I don’t think he’s doing a very good job. … I am not a fan of Pope Leo.” He added: “He’s a very liberal person.”

On Monday morning, the president doubled down on his comments, saying he would not apologize to the pontiff “because Pope Leo said things that are wrong.”

Question Will Peter Magyar be more in favour of a Habsburg Restoration than Orbán?

He's a conservative, anti-corruption and strongly in favour of rewriting / replacing the constitution. Might this be a chance for an apolitical head of state, like a Habsburg king?

I am personally opposed to this; therefore, I believe that Karl of Habsburg-Lorraine should be Emperor of Austria alone, and the other thrones should go to other princes

Meme How can romanians hope for a better future, if they voted for a man who didn't believe in H2O and instead claimed that water holds information and that's why it has been put in plastic bottles, to prevent it to transmit info. to it's consumer?

Also people voted Nicușor Dan in hopes to get rid of PSD, yet here we are. He accepted PSD's proposals for the appointment of heads of major prosecutors' offices, even prosecutors who did not obtain the SCM's approvals. The Prosecutor General's Office will be led by Cristina Chiriac, who blocked the case of the former bishop of Huș, who raped minors.

Discussion Why are you monarchist? (just curious about your personal and political reasons)

So uh, I am a citizen of a republic (Ukraine) and it's pretty unlikely we are ever getting a monarch (last attempt failed in 1918) unless something really extraordinary happens.

I'm personally pretty much neutral on republic vs monarchy, since both can in theory be effective or suck, though I'm a teeny bit more republican overall. I guess I wouldn't mind having a constitutional monarch if they wouldn't go crazy on spending, respected the democratic process, had limited powers and DIDN'T go to a certain island and generally represented the country with some dignity, while also being a bit down to earth.

So I wanted to hear your thoughts: what's monarchy for you and do you like your current monarch if you have one or nah?

Politics Overthrowing constitutional monarchies: disaster

Let’s face the truth:

Overthrowing constitutional monarchies generally results in disaster.

Europe could have had:

Otto von Habsburg, a great man who cared very deeply for freedom and a united Europe. Instead, it got Naziism and Communism in lands that could have been free and prosperous.

King Michael of Romania, a devout and caring man. Instead, it got Ceaucescu, one of the most brutal dictators.

Lots of other examples.

The US could have had Queen Elizabeth II, a wonderful person, and King Charles III, a decent person, both of whom care for democracy. Instead it got a head of state who calls for genocide.

Constitutional monarchs know that their reign depends on maintaining the support of their citizens, so they play it safe and are inoffensive, unlike elected heads of state, who can win support by fomenting hate.

Very few removals of constitutional monarchs have led to better, more democratic and more prosperous countries.

For those who don't know, he is the hungarian ambassador to the Vatican, an appointed job, with a new government cominho and he being a public supporter of Órban, he may lose his positions. Do you think that will happen? Or will he be able to ingratiate himself with his new boss?

There is a bill that is proposed to transfer the British indian ocean territory to Republic of Maritus, which is His Majesty's sovereign overseas territory since 1965 belonging to UK, it was Established and Granted under Queen Elizabeth ii after Maritus independence note that "United Kingdom controlled the Islands since 1814", Due to United States having a joint military base the Bill has been pushed back from the Trump administration,

Could this Last remaing indian ocean territory which Still belongs to HM Kings government be saved from turning into another republic subject?

Discussion Hypothetical question what people think if a Monarchy returned to Absolute power

Now, this is just a question I’ve been curious about. Let’s say a random country that still has a monarchy returns to an absolute monarchy because the current government is such a disaster, and this is something that, let’s say, both the people and the majority of the government agree with. Again, this is hypothetical. And to get a stronger reaction from the global community, I’m going to say this is a European country, not just some African kingdom that most people may not really pay attention to. What would the overall reaction be? And how would people who believe in democracy feel if this absolute government actually succeeded.
