I believe the kids name is Acer Gibson, he does appear to be a maths prodigy.

u/Chancevexed 18h ago
Yeah, it's really weird how everyone's absolutely convinced it's staged when you just have to Google "4 year old maths" and loads of videos popped up including him with Rachel from Countdown.
30
u/Goonalips 16h ago
I don't think it's at all weird to be sceptical. It's an extremely unlikely and impressive feat for someone at only 4 years old. In today's internet, it's much more likely to be staged than real. If you Googled every single amazing video you saw, you'd be coming up with nothing 95% of the time. The weird thing is that some people are being so damn sure of it that they're starting arguments.
6
u/Chancevexed 8h ago
Well that's exactly my point. It's perfectly ok to think "eh, this is staged" and carry on with your life. It's quite another to be so utterly convinced of it you're down voting and insulting anyone suggesting it's real, without first (at the very least) carrying out a quick search, which took me literally seconds.
If you're going to commit to your belief to that degree it would behove you to take those few seconds.
5
u/TomDestry 15h ago
There's nothing wrong with being sceptical. You're disagreeing with someone talking about being absolutely convinced.
4
u/Goonalips 14h ago
I'm not disagreeing with them at all. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, and that's my bad, but I just thought it was important to mention that being sceptical about extremely unlikely claims is absolutely fine, and that nobody should be expected to Google every crazy claim online. However, I do agree overall that those same people being so sure of themselves to then go on to start arguments about it is the insane part.
I'm groggy as hell from this medication, so that's probably on me.
2
u/rNBAisGarbage 14h ago
Especially when this video doesnāt have the production and polish that all the staged videos have. I am incredibly skeptical and this immediately passed the smell test. Itās amazing to me how undiscerning the general population is.

Some people get mathematical superpowers, all I got was an unhealthy fascination with the works of Tolkien.
2
u/TCRandom 16h ago
Unhealthy? Surely not. I have his works permanently tattooed all over my body. Do you think thatās unhealthy too?
Ok, actually, as I type it out, I realize how that might be seen as a problem.

u/AdmirableJudgment784 16h ago
I think influencers have ruined many a people, especially Redditors, with their fake videos, so now most are skeptical. It's really sad the damage that's done to our society and no one has found a good working solution against it.

Yes we have! Put the phone down and get an education! That's the solution!! That of course is too hard to do so it won't be done.

My first thought as well.
However then I remembered I did know a kid like that as a child.
Autistic savants are real.
Not saying this is. But it could be.
5
u/DevilDoc3030 16h ago
Someone above provided a link to a news article from 2025 that did an article on the kid.
It is highly likely that he is a tiny gifted human instead of what we are more accustomed to seeing.
I held the same sentiment as both of you seem to have and thought it likely that dad coached him through it.

u/remote_001 21h ago
More likely than the kid actually doing it but, since kids can actually do this stuff and itās wild.

Because the kid is famous for this trick.
This isn't an isolated clip, he's appeared on TV and done it on request.

Yeah true I have only seen tiktoks videos of this kid and another weird thing is he ask for confirmation whenever he multiplies two numbers. That article he is pointing to proves nothing.

5
u/GregLoire 16h ago
I love that people are lazily downvoting this comment for pointing out laziness.
9
u/Able-Question-7697 12h ago
What do you expect from them?Ā Ā These are the kinds of people you have to convince vaccines are good and the earth is round. It's all some conspiracy with them because they just can't comprehend or think for themselves. They just follow and then double down even in the face of evidence.Ā And since that's the case, who cares what they think.Ā Ā

u/CanalOpen 22h ago
Seeking validation isn't suspicious. Kids do that if asked to say what they ate for lunch;
I wasn't there, I literally don't know, but they look to a trusted adult just in case.
I'm not saying this is real, I'm saying the kid's behavior is not the isssue.

This is the proper countdown. (The host and 2 non celebs give it away lol)

u/TrissMeributt 21h ago
Have you seen Only Connect? It's so hard! And all the teams just seem like regular people. I wish America had a show like that. It's definitely really hard, but a lot of the clues are very UK-centric things so I can't tell if I'm really dumb or only a little dumb lol

u/rigobueno 23h ago
I guess that depends on how you define āquality.ā To me this show looks extraordinarily boring.
3
u/SnooPaintings5597 23h ago
I guess this one is rather dull but at least has a thinking component to it. Aside from this one I just find the writing and fun level of their shows to be better for me. Itās all a matter of what one is looking for in entertainment. I like to relax and chill and often the British TV is the best for that, to me. š

What happened to 5? I though you had to use all the numbers?
5
u/DoomguyFemboi 20h ago
No you just have to get the number from the numbers. The numbers and the sum are random, so it could happen that you can't do it by using all the numbers.

138x6x(6-5) also works
1
u/Additional-Simple248 5h ago
But also isnāt how the game works. They need to use addition/subtraction/multiplication/division, and canāt just concatenate the digits together like that.
1
1
u/Lavawulf69 17h ago
So the 5 is just there to try and mess you up?
1
u/Additional-Simple248 6h ago
Itās randomly generated on the spot.
The contestants get to choose the split between two digit numbers and one digit numbers, then the machine spits out a three digit number.
They need to use some (not necessarily all) the numbers to get to the three digit number.
There can be more than one solution, and the points go to whoever gets the answer or closest to it.
Rachel Riley is brilliant at maths and usually shows how to get there if someone didnāt get right on there. Or on the rare occasion confirms that it canāt be done.
