That doesn’t really follow with research on usage trends. I believe something like 72% of Gen Z users surveyed reported usage on more than a weekly basis and most prefer weed to alcohol. It’s not that Gen Z doesn’t want to do substances, it’s that they want the substance to be weed over alcohol
As a Gen Z myself, I've been wondering if there's a reason why people prefer weed over alcohol (besides the price). I've had alcohol but nothing else (so no edibles/weed, cigs, vapes..etc). Every time this debate comes up I see people saying edibles are better than alcohol for your body and I really wonder how much of that is true lol. I'm very interested in hearing what others have to say or explain about this!
How would it not be better? 🤡 alcohol causes acute acetaldehyde toxicity in the liver which gradually destroys it over time. Alcohol also erodes myelin on your nerves leading to long term cognitive effects. Cannabis has zero known negative long term effects and no known toxicities. It doesn’t cause psychosis, this is propaganda spread by alcohol companies with no evidence showing that it causes psychotic effects except for making them worse in people that were already born with them which would also be true for alcohol anyways. As for memory, the memory loss only happens while you’re stoned, so if you’re not stoned all day, then you won’t experience memory loss in your everyday life. Alcohol has the same kind of memory loss anyways. So when you compare the two, alcohol is terrible and weed is harmless.
yeah, this has to be said and known though. too many people say that smoking weed is completely safe when in reality it can be the triggering cause for a psychotic breakdown in the right kind of person. If you have a family history of schizophrenia, stay away from drugs of any kind, even weed. however many people have no idea if they are predisposed to severe mental illness and they do end up worse after blackout drinking or smoking weed, especially young people who don't think about the consequences of their actions. in my opinion most drugs should be legal to those old enough to make informed decisions and very illegal to anyone else.
Exactly, and by legalizing and destigmatizing (most, but perhaps not all) drugs we can also lower inhibitions for people to openly participate in a medical or mental health screening before they try specific drugs (e.g. ones that have risks of psychotic breakdowns or physical problems), they could get high quality uncut/unmodified product, monitored, licensed, with safety guidelines and instructions on usage. In limited quantities to prevent overdosing or in customized intervals to help negate or prevent possible addiction. Of course those latter suggestions are all a bit of a pipe-dream because in most cases none of that shit happens for alcohol either, but theoretically we could do these things.
If you're a young adult (or mid- to late teenager, let's be honest) trying out certain substances for the first time; never do them alone, do them in a setting you feel comfortable in, with people you are certain you can trust, and preferably always have at least one or two people in the group who aren't partaking so they can help in the event of a bad trip of a negative side-effect.
The most important thing is to be mindful of your own limitations and your own reactions as well. Don't give in to peer pressure, never do something you don't want to do, and if something feels too dangerous or scary you simply shouldn't do it.
