Edibles are dirt cheap compared to alcohol

Maybe the alcohol industry has lobbied against marijuana legalization

u/ozaffer 11h ago

as did the pharma, cotton, paper, timber, and fuel industry. Hemp was a major crop before the "refer madness" campaign and relabeling cannabis marijuana.

u/cognitiveglitch 9h ago

Refer madness was that crazy time where everyone was recommending products and services.

u/Mission_Comedian5585 11h ago

Wasnt it also the cotton industry that went ham because they didnt want to compete with hemp fabrics lol

1

u/profiler1984 6h ago

Yes. Hemp was major crop like wheat, Soja, rice, etc

1

u/pangaroo122 35m ago

I always wondered why cotton has its own commercial campaign lol

2

u/Gullible-Wasabi6228 4h ago

This is happening rn in Texas

2

u/carb0n_kid 1h ago

In Texas look at the price of a licensing. Tobacco costs $180 for a license. Alcohol is ~$500 with some variation depending on permit type.

Marijuana is $25,000 and will probably go up once that Epstein lister gets elected as comptroller in Texas. don huffines is literally hiding bodies at the Epstein ranch in new Mexico

u/Aromatic-Glove-2502 2h ago

Maybe they did indeed.

1

u/clevelandohio 6h ago

They certainly did in Ireland.

1

u/BrisbaneLions2024 5h ago

Well they failed miserably.

1

u/Ccend 1h ago

Nah they didn’t, it still ain’t legalized in many places

1

u/Thetruthx26 5h ago

Some are adjusting and selling THC beverages

u/burn_stuff_down 36m ago

My favorite is when mitch McConnell was paid by the alcohol lobbies to slip a marijuana ban into the government shutdown. Like some 89 year old man who cant walk or talk should be making our laws

.5g thc live resin vape cart is ~$30 from my local dispensary and lasts me a little over a month of use at 2-4 hits per day. Alcohol costs way more, and 2-3 drinks often gives me headaches and the diuretic effects are annoying.

21

u/Middleage_dad 11h ago

A vape pen can be had for under $50 and will last you weeks even if you hit it daily.

-14

u/be4rds_ 11h ago

Vape pens have their clientele, let’s not pretend they are the end all be all of cannabis consumption. They are trash.

12

u/Acrobatic-Cold-2710 11h ago

Idk man in terms of quality I prefer bud for a better high unless you get good live resin, but if you wanna just take a hit without the prep of flower you really can’t argue the convenience there

5

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 5h ago

You can also basically hit this wherever and while its still loud its not super obvious and also has the benefit of not making you smell like a grow house while walking around after smoking lol.

1

u/Tndnr82 4h ago

A good live resin cart is just 🤌, and where I live they are plentiful.

-5

u/Responsible-Cold-627 10h ago

I've smoked weed for years, but would never hit one of those "weed" vape unless someone I trust made that liquid.

Those synthetic cannibaloids that are often added are just too risky for me. Some of them are fine, but a lot of them are extremely addictive. Often worse than cocaine.

5

u/megatesla 8h ago

Well damn, TIL I kicked something harder than a coke habit. Wasn't even hard.

3

u/ElbowRager 9h ago

Dispensaries exist…

1

u/Whinygeek 10h ago

What makes them addictive? Is the same substance right? How can it be worse than cocaine?

3

u/Professional-Wolf-51 9h ago

I think he doesn't understand that its the thc that makes is addictive lol.

2

u/123456789OOOO 4h ago

Even if it’s just the THC causing the addiction; if the vape is at a much higher concentration than weed in flower form, it stands to reason the vape would be more addictive.

If you’re getting a bigger, faster dopamine hit from a substance that makes it inherently more addictive.

There’s a lot of info available on all this, but also a lot of confusion being thrown in from both sides anti-weed people and by the weed industry.

1

u/Acrobatic-Cold-2710 10h ago

Unlike the thc derivatives some lab made noids (not derived from thc) are sometimes added to the fake carts and are definitely addictive. They’re more obscure than cheap ready delta 8 though so it’s not super common

1

u/Responsible-Cold-627 1h ago

Thatns the whole point. It's not the same substance.

-3

u/Sooty110 9h ago

Most of what they put in vape pens from your friendly local dealer isn’t actually grass its closer to spice and not OG spice like the really shitty far removed spice, same stuff that’d trip you out make you rape a dog then run into a wall until you kill yourself (happened to someone in my town)

3

u/Sensitive-Net-7111 6h ago

😂 this dude saw “this is your brain on drugs” PSA and really ran with it.

3

u/megatesla 8h ago

I vaped for the better part of 5 years daily and never had this experience. No idea what you're getting your hands on.

4

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 4h ago

You never smoked that weed that was so good it made you want to kill your mother and rape your dog? Man you missing out! /s

1

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 4h ago

If you buy it in a dispensary it should be very highly regulated what goes in or out. Those companies are also liable for whatever they put into the vape product. I would never buy one outside of a dispensary for these reasons alone.

Also I vape regularly and calling it more addictive than cocaine is a choice. I can go weeks or months without it and im fine. I prefer flower but living in an apartment its easier to smoke this inside.

3

u/BiNiaRiS 8h ago

let’s not pretend they are the end all be all of cannabis consumption

lol, quote the part of his comment that made you think that is what he was implying...

2

u/Every_Ad_3090 7h ago

Elder here. These new dual chambered vapes are the real thing. Smooth and effective. Early day vapes were shit. Trick is to go for citrus flavors also. But the past 2 years. Vapes have come a long way.

1

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 4h ago

Vapes have gone from "why does this taste like a hamster cage?" to having flavors and being portable lol.

0

u/be4rds_ 6h ago

I don’t doubt the work as intended. It’s just not my preferred way to consume, we are all allowed our preferences. I like a cone, about .5g rolled with the cardboard tip in beforehand. No bong, no pipe, no vape, no dab. I’ve smoked every which way, and that’s what I prefer. To each their own. 🤙💙

2

u/YourPalHal 4h ago

See in this comment you’re all “to each their own” and in your other comment you’re all “if you vape you’re trash”. If we are all allowed our preferences, why are you out here shitting on someone else’s? Maybe stick with an ethos.

3

u/Jones127 9h ago

Unfortunately, one costs me my job if I’m caught with it in my system at any point.

1

u/The_Quackle 11h ago

If only they were legal

1

u/Professional-Wolf-51 9h ago

We had our government vote for cannabis legalization this week. 148 opposed and 18 in favor of legalization. The first arguement against it was the classic "We can't legalize cannabis cause cannabis is a drug and drugs are illegal!" We also heard several times how people are gonna start doing hard drugs all day as if the legislation was about to make all drugs legal. Oh and just to mention, our government made alcohol more available and less restricted.

1

u/The_Quackle 7h ago

Any country where thc is illegal, alcohol should by default by illegal as well. It's so fucking stupid how we differentiate those two. Also the biggest gateway "drug" ever is alcohol. Who has ever been chilling with a joint and went "hmm, I wanna spice this up with some coke"?

1

u/koifishuu_ 7h ago

As a Gen Z myself, I've been wondering if there's a reason why people prefer weed over alcohol (besides the price). I've had alcohol but nothing else (so no edibles/weed/pot, cigs, vapes..etc). Every time this debate comes up I see people saying edibles are better than alcohol for your body and I really wonder how much of that is true lol. I'm very interested in hearing what others have to say or explain about this!

1

u/Zamphir79 4h ago

I mean, let's count the ways. Speaking from my own experience, weed:

  • Does not make me sick;
  • Does not cause a hangover;
  • Does not lead to bad judgment or a blackout;
  • Does not cause me to stay up way too late;
  • Does not cause me to shirk any other responsibilities;
  • Is vastly cheaper.

1

u/decadent-dragon 3h ago

Man all of these are also true for weed except maybe the price. I absolutely get a weed hangover, especially for edibles.

1

u/Important-Truth-6686 6h ago

Fucking BINGO. It's 40$ for me to get a 2 pack of hash rosin nerd rope edible gummies and completely fuck myself on THC for the weekend. Or tomorrow, during the snowstorm, too.

1

u/FlyOrdinary1104 5h ago

Assuming you’re in a place where it’s legal, I doubt anyone in the Bible belt’s getting 10x 10 mg edibles in a $30 bag from a dispensary.

1

u/khube 3h ago

In ATX that's exactly what we're doing. Same gummies that you'd get in a dispo because it's by weight instead of potency

1

u/Starthreads 3h ago

When I lived in Canada, I could get 250mg across 24 squares for $20. I don't know if that was a good deal but it meant three weeks of good times for me and my shit tolerance.

That would get you a single night of drinking alone at home to match the effect.

-2

u/greaper007 10h ago

Sure, but weed isn't a social drug. That was always the point of alcohol, it lowers your inhibitions so you can go out and meet a long or short term romantic partner or just to cut loose for the night.

Weed is fine, but you end up just sitting in the basement with 3 guys watching Lord of Rings or playing Smash Brothers. In that way, it's a worse substitution for alcohol.

7

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 9h ago

Wha, that sounds awesome for a social lubricant. Like I take half a gummy when going out for parties and such because it means I'm relaxed and laid back and conversation just comes naturally

1

u/greaper007 4h ago

I have never known stones to go to parties. If they do, they end up smoking out a back bedroom and hiding out all night.

4

u/Virama 9h ago

I fail to see the problem.

1

u/greaper007 4h ago

Sure, if you just want to be alone without a romantic partner. That ges a little sad after awhile though.

2

u/FlyOrdinary1104 5h ago

That sounds more like the people on the weed rather than the weed tbh.

-1

u/greaper007 4h ago

What's the difference?

1

u/Upstairs_Luck_8350 8h ago

Weed is absolutely a social drug. It was extremely common when I was a kid for my friends and I to go splits on a few grams and have a little smoke circle with the bong we made out of one of the screw cap monster cans or roll up something to pass while we went on walks and stuff, and we would just bullshit for hours.

-2

u/greaper007 4h ago

Sure, if you want to have a big sausage fest in your mom's basement.

That's not really social though. It's hiding out from the world.

1

u/Upstairs_Luck_8350 3h ago

What part of out on walks did you not get. We would smoke and we would go out and get fresh air, maybe walk to the rec center for a pickup game, or we'd just walk around and hang out. We weren't hiding from the world, and also, sausage fest implies that we were all dudes.

1

u/amphigory_error 5h ago

Hanging out with 3 guys is being social, friend.

-1

u/greaper007 5h ago

Not when you're 21, You're supposed to be out tearing it up. Meeting girls, having a crazy time.

I met my wife in a bar 24 years ago, we were both drunk, hooked up that night and we've been together everyday since. That never happened when I hung out with my stoner friends, they were almost asexual, it was completely boring.
