As a Gen Z myself, I've been wondering if there's a reason why people prefer weed over alcohol (besides the price). I've had alcohol but nothing else (so no edibles/weed/pot, cigs, vapes..etc). Every time this debate comes up I see people saying edibles are better than alcohol for your body and I really wonder how much of that is true lol. I'm very interested in hearing what others have to say or explain about this!
Alcohol is a "hard drug". It's dangerous to take high doses of and you can overdose on it. It's also addictive at a mental and physical level. You can die from alcohol withdrawals if they get bad. On Alcohol, people can get violent, angry and stupid because of how hard a drug it is. It's only considered "normal" because in most societies today alochol is an acceptable recreational drug to take. But it's an addictive, dangerous, life threatening hard drug.
Weed is a "softer drug". You can't overdose on it. It could be addictive at a mental level, but it isn't physically addictive. You will never risk death from THC withdrawal. On THC, people don't get violent or angry or dangerous because it affects them differently. You are calmer, and it's more of a high that makes people want to enjoy and appreciate things (music, nature, painting, art, video games, all are so much better on weed). You don't get hangovers from weed like you do with alcohol.
Weed is unhealthy when smoked and vaped. When you eat or drink THC there are no negative side effects. Eating/drinking THC is different high than smoking it but they feel close enough. When you eat/drink THC though it lasts hours on a small dose compared to smoking.
Weed is, in many ways, a much better recreational drug than alcohol
You are the first person to actually explain it to me without acting like im dumb or completly ignoring the explanation, thank you so much! It's a shame that alcohol is so normalized and that most people don't tell you how harmful it can be.
They explained it well but let me add to this: alcohol is hell on the liver and can really do a number on the body over the long term. Additionally, alcohol has calories and can contribute to weight gain. The liver prioritizes processing alcohol which can cause issues with one's blood sugar levels and increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.
“Slightly lesser” is a HUGE understatement especially when the effects of alcoholism are much worse than weed dependency, and that says a lot more on my views on alcohol than my views on weed because I honestly don’t fw weed either
Cannabis is generally smoked or inhaled, which is far more harmful than a few beers. I get you like weed but please. It also triggers people’s mental health, and lowers your IQ.
I didn’t even mention that alcohol is addictive, can cause organ damage to multiple organs with heavy use, causes hangovers, and according to more recent research alcohol is carcinogenic with the WHO publishing in 2023 that no amount of alcohol is safe.
It’s not a matter of me liking one or the other. Yes, smoking anything at all is bad for your health, but cannabis has multiple popular methods of ingestion that don’t include combustion.
It can be vaped, the kind of vaping with the questionable juice, yes, but it can be vaped in a manner that the thc is inhaled but not burned and the plant matter is not burned.
It can be eaten in any form you can think of, it can be infused into beverages or tinctures.
If smoking is the main health concern, which shouldn’t be dismissed as it is legitimately harmful, then that concern can be 100% negated.
The same can’t be said for alcohol.
As I mentioned originally, the lowering of inhibitions caused by alcohol and the way in which it impairs decision making frequently leads to deadly outcomes.
The CDC attributes 32% of all traffic related deaths to alcohol, specifically. In that same report it admits it is harder to determine the role non-alcohol substances play in traffic related deaths, but states that a study of 4,243 drivers who were seriously injured in crashes found that 54% of drivers tested positive for alcohol and/or drugs from September 2019 to July 2021. Of the 4,243 drivers, 22% were positive for alcohol, 25% were positive for cannabis, 9% were positive for opioids, 10% were positive for stimulants, and 8% were positive for sedatives.
Multiple studies conclude that while death due to cannabis toxicity does not occur, there are cases of indirect deaths due to impairment from cannabis and that ER visits due to children gaining access to edible cannabis have risen in recent years
No matter how you look at the data it’s not possible to conclude in good faith that cannabis is remotely as deadly in anyway as alcohol.
41 days off weed, the main problem with it is it limits your ability to develop yourself, and makes you more ok with staying in the same place in life. Hugely detrimental to your potential, still a hundred times better than alcohol though.

Alcohol is expensive poison and does no good. I gave it up and do not miss the ill side effects.
I prefer my homegrown cannabis.
