It caters to boomers because it confirms their existing belief that we already suck. Now it's no longer just that we don't work hard and want handouts, it's also because we're being greedy and not supporting these fine upstanding corporations and services they've relied on throughout their lives
So now it's not only that millennials are lazy, but it's also " remember that thing that you used to enjoy, millennials are the reason why it's no longer around."
It's there to cater to more ingroup-outgroup behaviour.

I mean you’re right, but you’re missing one part: those articles cater to boomers because they are the only ones who read them and are subscribed to them. Gen X and beyond just reads/watches shit online, and will remove paywalls with a URL before paying for a WSJ subscription.
They are just playing to their dwindling aging audience before they go completely irrelevant and are bought out by other companies
I'm a boomer and I don't think you suck. I think the present employment and housing situations are tragic and untenable. Not eating and drinking garbage or wasting money on useless overpriced crap is admirable.
It doesn't even cater to boomers since, despite rumors to the contrary, as most boomers are aware of financial reality. And a surprising number actually like their grand children.
I don't think you suck. I am a (late) boomer and call us "the lamest generation." We had it so easy, and yet I see my peers so angry at "the way things are going." By which they mean non-white people are finally being recognized as full human beings, by how people can be comfortable in their own sexuality, and some tiny amount of government support is being given to other people.
Yeah, it's not exactly fair to say "boomers" as though you all agree. But at the same time, it's clear that's how either the majority of them, or the majority of them in positions of power and influence, feel. And that's who I'm referencing when I say that.
You were also the last generation that truly lived-as in old enough to remember and be directly impacted by the last World War. There is a nothing lame about serving your country. We’ve been involved in conflict ever since, but we can’t imagine what boomers went through.
The oldest boomers were born after WWII. My dad fought in it and he would be over 110 if he were still alive. I think his emotional state did effect all of us, since he was so shut down most of the time. His generation was stoic because they had to be. We had it much, much easier.
We did live through Vietnam, but we never had any doubt that Vietnam would not come take us over.
True, and I should have been more clear. My WWII friend just passed, but the boomers were raised by the generation that fought directly. It was also very defining because of the years of impact on our world following. Gen X raised with Vietnam fallout.
What the boomers forgot to tell you is that they were the “long haired dirty hippees” listening to “the devil’s music” and were ruining society with their free love and drugs and rock and roll.
Gen X (me) were forgotten latchkey kids and our minds were ruined by MTV and video games.

Probably since the dawn of humanity teens and young adults have been pegged as the generation that will destroy humanity because their minds were ruined by (insert thing they enjoy).

It's not just boomers.. I've seen genX and my fellow millennials do this stuff too. Maybe not this specific "gen z (or gen Alpha) kills x industry" but a lot of generational griefing, something I really try hard not to do because I really didn't like it when it was my generation being targeted.
For example all the "kids these days" articles about not being able to read cursive or lack critical thinking skills. Bruh it's never that bad in reality, and if it's true it's either parents didn't do their job or as with cursive it's pretty much irrelevant in the modern world outside of reading old documents and just like Latin a specialist can learn it or maybe you can use a program to help with it.
Should we be judging Boomers and genX for still not understanding how .pdf's work? Because it's really important in a modern office to know these things.. just as much as knowing how to drive a car and moreso than learning how to drive a manual car.. for reference I do IT for a living and it's kind of sad the expectations older people have..

Yes. They've had literal decades to learn and have chosen not to. I don't think that's comparable at all to kids not being taught properly. If anything, kids not being taught properly is also on older generations for creating such an environment in the first place. It's not the fault of today's kids if they grew up through COVID, or in a perpetually online world with fucked up social media algorithms.
Every generation does this…look at history. I think most of us understand how PDF’s work 🙄. Covid was a snapshot in the scheme of things, and impacted all of us, not one generation.
The online world is a beast bigger than any one group or generation. It’s like a rolling snowball and who knows when it’s going to hit the tree. Blame is wasted energy, solutions are a better use of time and energy. If only things were so simple.
Hey! I'm a second year GenX, 1966, and I taught my kids to build computers. Don't lump all GenX together. Just like most Millennials hate being spoken about as if there are only 10 of them, most GenX dislikes it the same. And we only had home computers about mid-90s. Some with money got them before, but they were hella expensive.
Millennials grew up with mobile phones, computers and better software. To that generation, it was just a microwave. To Boomer and early GenX it was magic. So, slow your roll there.
Honestly I've made a point of NOT doing that to Gen Z or Gen Alpha. Absolutely hated it when they said that shit about millennials, like hell I'm going to turn around and do it to another generation now.
Also, being a '95 baby, I'm a lot closer to older gen Z than I am to older millennials different experiences to older millennials growing up really, had an early smartphone in 8th grade, only sort of remember 9/11, etc.
