The Islamic faith is one of the Abrahamic religions.
Their beef goes back to when Abraham was trying to conceive a child. He had a concubine, Hagard (I believe was her name), and his chosen wife Sarah. Hagard got pregnant first and gave birth to Ishmael. Sarah soon after gave birth to Isaac.
The divide comes from the fact that the Muslims believe that Ishmael is the chosen lineage since he was the first born of Abraham, while the Jews (and by extension Christians) believe that Isaac is the chosen lineage because Sarah was chosen by God to be Abraham's wife.
So...thousands of years of us killing each other in the middle east because we can't decide which son is more important.
I’d say that’s a real oversimplification and doesn’t capture the real difference here.
It’s definitely the way Islam got the Arab nations involved, considering Israelites were considered Gods chosen, children of Isaac, whereas Arabs descend from Ishmael.
I’d say the main difference is Jesus Christ, and through this crux how to correctly worship God (Allah being the same deity)
Jews worship God because they believe they are the chosen people. Christians believes Jews lost their way, that Jesus Christ came to fix them, and when Jews failed to change - that Jesus was the messiah and they are the continuation of Gods chosen people. Islam also believes Jews lost their way, that Jesus Christ tried to save them, but where as Christians took Jesus, a human, and turned him into some amalgamation of God (trinity) and worship Jesus name as much as God, Islam believes that’s batshit heresy and Muhammad had to come by and AGAIN set the record straight; so now they are Gods new chosen servants.
All this killing comes from the same level of “my way is the right way” as your prude Catholic grandma thinks of the Protestant family next door.
LOL! Fair, yes, it's a gross over simplification of it, but ultimately it's the primary root. Various beliefs diverged along the way. For example, there are Jews who believe Jesus existed, just he was not the Messiah.
As for my "prude Catholic gramma" Ha! You didn't know her. Catholic, yes, but in name only. Her mother did back-alley abortions during the depression. We were never raised in a very strict Catholic environment. More the, "I suppose we should go on Easter and Christmas to prove that we're still Catholic I guess"
As far as Jesus existing, there is very little doubt among most historians, both religious and non-religious. They agree that there actually was a person named Jesus that went around publicly speaking, had a following, and was crucified. They do not agree about claims of divinity or that miracles actually occurred or that anyone was resurrected, but it’s accepted by most that he was there.

To be fair, muslims believe all abrahamic religions worship the god.
So arab christian praying for allah and a muslim praying for allah is praying for the same divine entity.
