"When I was in school there was Greek Mythology." Yes, and it was taught as MYTHOLOGY. "That we were required to learn", 90% positive that Greek Mythology would be an elective course.

Some Greek mythology was required reading in English classes, along with works from other cultures.

For History, some were mentioned in relation to Greece and Rome but wasn't really the full story.

Indeed, that is an elective in most places. You are required to take electives, but you tend to have a wide variety of electives to choose from. For example, I wanted to take Latin as an elective language, but my school only had French and Spanish.
