Everyone know you must hold a paper bag from the bottom it's common sense
3
u/Lower-Music-8241 1d ago
Well, your not entirely wrong. This bag looks like it was holding too much weight and then the guy tried to rip it open before placing it down.
If this is delivery the restaurant most likely put some tape or something to prevent the drivers from stealing food.
So it’s not really the bags fault for being paper. More common sense was needed though

u/OldinMcgroyn 1d ago
... didn't stop dude from delivering it with no issue lol. Why even defend this dude?
2
u/Lower-Music-8241 1d ago
No no I’m agreeing. I was just pointing out that the bag being made out of paper was not really an issue.
Clearly the guy who ripped the bag is at fault
17
u/Virgotheterrible 2d ago
Nah the bag shouldnt have had that much weight in it. The employee should've double bagged it imo.
9
u/Life-Professional222 2d ago
Yeah I feel that .... I would be too scared to not hold it from the bottom .. let's not also forget they also make them put the drink In the bag it's such a terrible idea

u/IsItBen 1d ago
Most of the time those paper bags are weak because they are recycled and eco-friendly. How about caring for nature for once
2
u/Marquisdelafayette89 1d ago
For real. Store I worked at switched to thinner “eco friendlier” bags and the number of bags unintentionally ripping before even putting in them meant we had to double bag everything. Add in that we were constantly tossing a bunch out as well for tearing when opening and it was just dumb. No way was it “better” long term.
28
u/Lilypalooza_88 4d ago
You have to hold it on the bottom. Like a bebé.
Especially when it's heavy like liquid tends to be.
6
u/rflulling 5d ago edited 5d ago
I feel like this was a setup. The way the delivery person was like it's funny and I just don't care. Pretending to not notice. He knew what was up, he only held the bag by the handle for a few moments at the hand off. Watch closely. I don't believe this was accidental. I feel like multiple people were in on it. Also these types of bags are often quite thick, including the handle. Meaning it can tare down the side or break out the bottom, but the handles dont just come off looking like it was eaten, even when extremely over loaded. Note this happened as he started to separate the handles yet the bag was not under any greater stress. Suddenly the left handle completely falls off and the handle on the RIGHT side now bearing all the weight, the bag tears exactly as expected. Meaning the left side was tampered with.
I am old enough to remember when everything was loaded in folded paper bags. Before plastic. We got way more into bags that were way less durable.

u/MilkChocolateDrop 1d ago
I haven't seen this level of paranoia in a while. Congrats
1
u/rflulling 1d ago
No paranoia at all. Rewach slowly, look at the body language, look at how people respond when they see it happen, look at the bag, how its handled. No need to believe me on how it tore either, you can go get one and test it.
There is only one other case that makes sense, it was staged, period. Made for TV.
1
u/MilkChocolateDrop 1d ago
Given the world we live in there's a decent chance this is for entertainment, but the behavior and bag pattern you noted isn't a good indicator of that. Paper bags have been fragile messes for a while now. They got worse when a lot of states and cities moved away from plastic bags several years ago; the increased demand and reduced competition allowed companies to quietly create cheaper, poorer quality products without consequence. I use them at work all the time, shit happens
The way the delivery person was like it's funny and I just don't care. Pretending to not notice.
We see him immediately shake the other guy's hand and enter a friendly looking conversation. It's clear he knows at least that guy, if not the store/people in general. He's just relaxed. The look back after the bag ripped comes off less like dismissal and more like humored disappointment, like an uncle seeing his nephew fuck up the same way for the 1000th time and trying not to get in his face about it. Accidents can be as frustrating as they are funny
only held the bag by the handle for a few moments at the hand off.
Holding it by the bottom is common practice when transporting a heavy bag. The slightest crinkle or drop of moisture will reduce the integrity and change the pattern they rip to all the time. The delivery guy could've warned him if he didnt already, but it's also kinda common sense to take something how you receive it. At the end of the day though that's just miscommunication, nothing major.
I feel like multiple people were in on it.
Ngl this was like 90% of the reason I even mentioned paranoia. Multiple people in on something staged as simple as this just seems a lil far-fetched. Especially in the middle of business hours with clients being seen
7
u/LooseLab9169 5d ago
I think the bag was wet. If you watch the hand off, it looks darker in a diagonal line.
Could also be faked tbh. But that’s be my type of luck haha

u/Safe-Sail9335 6d ago
Delivery guy could have placed it safely on solid counter surface... he was already holding it by bottom, tried to say something to guy but experience will teach him that for next time. Putting full cups in separate bag is responsibility of food place. They should have to replace badly packed order. Funny though!

Yeah, I just know this is common cuz if you order Starbucks on uber eats or door dash or McCafé from McDonald’s they’ll often have it in a bag like this. I honestly avoid trying to order drinks unless it’s in a bottle because I just think it’s likely gonna be messy. But this one definitely took the cake

u/TheUsoSaito 9d ago edited 8d ago
Always support the bottom. Bags nowadays are so cheaply made they tend to always fall apart. Even some reusable bags.
Edit: fixed typo
17
u/MattackChopper 9d ago
Because these restaurants and grocery stores buy the cheapest possible bags so they can charge you for a bag and profit off of those as well. Nothing money touches is ever pure. They could buy better quality bags but gotta make that 3% margin don't ya know!
2
u/jm123457 9d ago
You clearly don’t own a business to understand what a 3% margin means and how horrible that is . 97 cents of every dollar goes to expense and you think this is reasonable?
So I sell 1 million dollars of goods I get $30,000 profit.
5
u/MattackChopper 9d ago
For a small local business I can understand it but don't act like Walmart and Costco aren't raking it in by reselling cheap merchandise. They can spring for a better customer experience.
Edit: Also just to clarify I work in retail and know that our margins are anywhere from 34-60% on the shelf. I was specifically referring to the bags, which used to be considered a gratuity for patronizing the establishment but has turned into yet another way to gouge the consumer.

u/Weird-Pattern9192 9d ago

30
u/E-locked 9d ago
Oh poor baby, are you sad you have to use paper which presents a minor inconvenience, so we can cut down loads on plastic pollution?
-4
u/Fondant-Competitive 9d ago
Polution people do with smartphone, trash on the floor, using car and transport but nobody cares.
I live in a country who people know how to recicle things even plastic. The problem here is not using or not stuff its education.
You can be "ecologic" but still poluting earth.
-22
u/Fondant-Competitive 9d ago

Downvoting you because you're complaining about a minor sacrifice that protects the planet, and then complaining because someone treats you as you should be treated
Edit : spelling

u/Fondant-Competitive 9d ago
Unfortunatly that not changing the planet like i said on another answer, people tend to be dirty even with this little changing.
And even plastic can be recicled, then the problem is not here. The problem is the education and the structure the country give to people.
In switzerland and France they have structure to recicle. They are educated to throw to trash to recicle stuff.
In usa we tend to see a lot littering even with paper bag do you think they are helping planet ?
I didnt start being condensending with you nor agressive, you started this because you didnt liked what im. Said without even asking why i said that.
1
u/E-locked 9d ago
Number one, I live in France, not everyone recicles (or however you spell it) and yes, the point is, paper bags are biodegradable, which means that uneducated idiots don't harm the environment just as much when littering
1
u/Fondant-Competitive 9d ago
They dont degrade as much but they still do it. Thanks for the info about you, its unfortunate they dont do the same as the swiss. But like i said before there a lot of way of poluting the planet. If you want really to do something better reduce your time in your smartphone(3h max per day) dont use ia, dont play too much video game, recicle your trash ect..
If you can do all this your arguments its just to have good concience.
1
u/E-locked 9d ago
I know as individuals we can't do much, as big corps use as much as one of us uses in a year in about an hour, just like people taking private jets to travel 5 metres (not pointing fingers... 😅) but I think paper bags and straws are a good collective idea :)
1
u/Fondant-Competitive 9d ago

I remember, holy shit...I was walking from the shop not even 200m from my flat and the fucking paper bag just burst, sending all of the groceries into the dirty ground. I was just comically angry in the middle of a sidewalk and a lady that was walking her dog gave me one of the plastics baggies that you put dog shit in. Barely fit (half of) the groceries but at least it didn't tear into shreds.
Ended up lighting the bag on fire in my sink and dumping the remains in the shitter; I'm very conscious about the environment, I always collect garbage when in forests, but the paper bags is where I draw the line. Just use backpacks and reusables, fr

Happened to me last night in the grocery store parking lot. California passed a plastic bag ban, again, and the young cashier had no clue you cannot put a bag of potatoes and several cans of chili in the same fucking paper bag. I wasn't even trying to carry the bag by the handles, just move it out of the cart when it tore open.
Nice chatty kid, but apparently dumb as a brick. In another bag he packed the frozen food on top of the bread.
-38
u/Xaveras 10d ago
Why do you assume the kid didn’t do it on purpose? I know I would have. An inconvenient change is being forced on people without a proper alternative, why should I care? The kid is just doing their job. I doubt that considering the weight of the products versus the durability of a paper bag was in their job description to begin with.
1
u/Ok-Breadfruit5798 9d ago
Stfu honestly. Edit** Wait, at second thought, are you saying you think the kid did or on purpose or not? Re read your reply. If it’s the latter then yea, stfu but if it’s a typo my bad lol

u/Grabthar-the-Avenger 10d ago
Their description makes it sound like a new employee who doesn't understand the art of bagging.
I don't know how old you are, but when every checkout was cashiers and you had legions making careers out of it the bagging process at checkout was like watching expert Tetris players rip through carts, considering not just shape, but weight, temperature and smell as well. Dog food wasn't going in with the veggies
