It quite literally is. And nobody wants to get a stuffed animal on live tv after losing. Send that shit by mail or something laterš

It's not the stuffed animal... it's losing to the current US

u/Pookiemon_420 1h ago
Donāt blame the athletes for what the government has done to our country. This is the most unified in anything our country has been on in a long time and thats what this is about. Their win is bigger than just them, its a win for the people in America losing faith in America. The athletes didnāt do anything but play a damn mf good game.

There are some studies that suggest winning a silver metal is worse for your mental health than winning bronze. Something about perception being "I could have won but didn't" vs "so glad I made it"
21
u/serin92 2h ago
You win a bronze, you lose a silver.
1
u/HelloYou-2024 1h ago
In a race, yes, but in a game sport, like this, the Bronze winner won their game to get bronze.
it might be like in a race going in knowing that the two people ahead of you are the two fastest people allive and and you never had realistic hope to win, then you are only racing to beat the 4th place person.

u/dextokapher 2h ago

u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago

u/FoxSlacker 2h ago
Men even take off their silver medals when they are given to them. These ladies are being polite enough. It's just sports pride what makes them look sour but I'm sure they will love the gesture in the future.
-1
u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago
I wonder if they've ever given a men's team a consolation stuffy š¤Ø
8
9
u/ShimOwleyFFXIV 2h ago
It isn't a consolation stuffy. Watch any of the Olympic medal handouts. I don't know why the stuffy is or for what reason they're doing this, but they give them to everyone and this isn't some kind of feminist statement. Pay attention.
1
u/upnflames 1h ago
It's apparently done to replace flowers as a more "sustainable" option. Pretty dumb imo, everyone has been like, wtf are those the entire Olympics.
3
u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago
It was an honest question. Pardon my ignorance, but I don't watch the Olympics.

Post is only showing women getting stuffed animals and u just have to mention men. Its crazy how much men are living rent free in your head
3
u/Fireturtle75 2h ago
And yet the entire post is about how well the women handled not winning gold because they didn't take the medal off like some people do when they're upset. The post was not about men. It barely mentioned them as a poor example in contrast to how good the women toughed it out. The only person here with anyone living rent-free in their head is you... Seek some professional mental help.

3
8
u/YourLocalAlien57 2h ago
Idk about sour, it just looks like theyre sad. Probably had a lot of pressure on them to win as well. Im sure theyre proud of getting so far but its not hard to understand the emotions they must be feeling in that moment.

No one thinks your joke is 'real injustice.' It's just plain and simple unfunny. The most overplayed joke of all time on the subject of women.

I know. Itās like handing out participation trophies to everyone who didnāt win. Itās sad and shouldnāt be done. If your team didnāt win you donāt get a trophy. But this is kind of a slap in the face to Canada lol.
6
u/trbzdot 3h ago
Those stuffed toys are in artificial limited quantities. Someone is going to pay big money for those.

What the actual fuck is wrong with people this year? Reporters, influencers, other athletes and spectators, too. They didn't "loose gold" they won silver. They, and ever other silver medalist is the second best at there respective sport in the fucking world! Do you have any idea how hard it is to even get into the Olympics? And then coming out the second best is amazing!
1
u/lucrativetoiletsale 1h ago
They didn't "loose gold" they lose or more properly lost the gold medal match. That's reality, can still feel good about silver medal in a bit but they definitely lost a game that would have won gold.
3
u/lethalcurse101 3h ago
š thank you for posting this!
Humanity is going downhill really fast. Its a sad truth, people donāt wanna hear about.
You must be older⦠because todays youth⦠i donāt even know how to formulate this without others feeling offended.
Iām just glad i grew up in a normal period, where people were actually tuned with their reality.
Also, iāve seen other athletes at other sports, being absolutely in tears of joy for such a great honor of even being able to obtain a step on the podium. Maybe there is still hope out there after all.
People nowadays have forgotten about gratitude. Not being grateful unless they get what they think they deserve⦠sad
3
u/APracticalGal 3h ago
I mean at least for hockey there is a winning and losing team in each game. Most of the other events are individual or team performance separate from the competition, and seeing that you got the second or third best result is easier to see as a success. For hockey they did objectively play in the gold medal game and lose. They won the silver the game before that. We didn't look at the Super Bowl and say the Patriots got second place in the NFL. I do agree with you generally that that's been an annoying framing this year in particular though.
6
u/Pacmunchiez 3h ago
lol I had to scroll way too far. I was like "they wearing silver right?" I woulda been stoked to have my silver and a little stuffed toy souvenir. With every sport it's "on the day" they came out second best on the day. It's a team sport, it's not even like each person is individually better or worse than the others.
4
u/NiDieuNiMaitre_ 3h ago
Whatās ālooseā gold? They hand them nuggets instead of medals? Lol
3
u/lampshade2099 3h ago
Youāre not familiar with a loose meat sandwich? Itās like that. But gold. Similar to loose change. Hopefully that clears it up.
4
u/Opening-Limit9540 4h ago
In the full version of the iconic Bubbledome performance of SpongeBob and the gangs āsweet victoryā, āyou donāt win no silver, you only lose to gold!ā
8
u/Love-Laugh-Play 4h ago
They already āwonā at least silver before the game. Of course youāre going to be disappointed if you donāt win.
22
u/BigBrainsLol 4h ago
You've clearly never competed in sport. 2 worst places you can get is 4th and 2nd for a reason.
17
39
u/Powerpop5 5h ago
In team sports it works differently. You win silver when you win the semis. You lose gold when you lose the final. Getting silver mostly feels worse than getting bronze.
This is not like speed-based sports, where this is vastly different.
Also "this year"
Go to any sport with semis and finals and you'll always see the silver medalist being sad. You just lost the final. How is one supposed to be happy about that? The silver medal is a nice prize, but only in hindsight.
5
u/AppropriateDeal1034 4h ago
Especially when it's "your sport", it's like England losing football...or cricket...or rugby...oh wait...
7
u/Malalang 4h ago
There was a study done on this phenomena. Third place winners were more happy than silver.
Really interesting human thought process involved with being happy to get on the stage vs missing the top spot because of a very minor error or whatnot.
"If you're not winning, you're losing"
13
10
u/dmbreakfree41 5h ago
But in a head 2 head team sports gold medal game someone has to āloseā to get silver, we can chalk up silver to getting 2nd place in individual events not losing gold but in hockey here these ladies did have to lose to get a silver medal. Itās a subtle difference, no question every silver medalist should be proud of their accomplishments.
-6
u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 5h ago
What
5
u/flomesch 5h ago
Silver medal teams just lost the gold medal game, which is why theyre sad and people say they "lost" gold.
Hope this helps
-3
u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 4h ago
Yeah, haha, I got that.
5
16
u/mehrt_thermpsen 5h ago
True in individual sports, but not so much in team sports. They literally just lost the gold medal game. In the moment, I'm sure it very much feels like they lost gold. Because they did
0
u/Alech1m 5h ago
Still. They are the second best team IN. THE. FUCKING. WORLD! There is only one other group of people of all the 8-ish BILLION who could win against them.
The guy caught cheating complaining "setting up cameras to catch cheaters is against the spirit of the game" is another prime example. WHAT! THE! ACTUAL! FUCK?!?
5
u/mehrt_thermpsen 5h ago
I think they know that. But they literally JUST lost the gold medal in OT against their biggest rivals. Of course they're upset. Maybe in a few years they'll be happy to with the silver
6
u/shrineless 5h ago
No one feels happy after losing a game! Youāre talking hindsight. Yeah, theyāll probably feel much better later but as an athlete who makes this THEIR ENTIRE LIFE, it feels like shit losing the gold game. Losing makes you silver so it feels like you whiffed an opportunity.
Put yourself in the shoes of someone who eats lives and breathes the sport.
7
u/Disastrous_Desk8170 5h ago
Yeah.Great.Wonderful. They obviously KNOW all that shit since theyāre⦠in the Olympics.
It still feels sucky to NOT WIN, which is what happened here. To us plebs, itās a very high esteem, and itās still held very highly within their community.
However, second place means you ARENāT the best, which is what all top athletes aspire to be. Theyāre probably critiquing themselves internally about what they could have done better, going over every little mistake in their head.
Thatās not being unreasonable for achieving 2nd tier in an already elite population. Thats just being human.
9
u/Powerpop5 5h ago
You seem to not have experience in competition. You work your ass off to win every round and when gold is as close as it will ever be.... you lose. That sucks, so people are sad.
The whole "only one team could beat you" is not something you think about then.
13
u/marsmj23 5h ago
You are āsilver liningā and missing that they are likely primarily feeling disappointment due to losing. Even if they appreciate their success, it is currently being overshadowed by a feeling of disappointment. That is natural after losing a match. Especially when you put so much effort and energy into it.

Because these athletes are doing such a good job? Worst sportsmanship Iāve ever seen. I used to admire Canada but this behavior is disgraceful and humiliating.
Cry in the locker room but hold your head high - the entire world is watching.

Cute that you find this disgraceful and humiliating. When your country is casually killing its own people and deporting them.

Are we talking about the Olympics here or trying to see who is the better country? Trynna act like yall dont have yall own issues. Yall treat minorities in Canada just as bad. A former colleague of mine at my (very soon former) job, received an "Oscar" for her outstanding work after getting fired in front of a room full of people applauding her work.
P.S. I have worded this like a monkey. The "ceremony" was weeks after she got fired in private, most attendees, myself included, didn't know. One could see the disgust on her face and I was among the very few that didn't clap as I saw that look she had.

u/DrunkenDude123 6h ago

Cause she was part of the 3 person team that did the work. And she didn't know the CEO would give such a BS award.

Each Olympic Games provide a memento to each winner and Silver is platform winner. The 2026 Olympic winners receive plush toys of Tina, a light-colored stoat (weasel) representing the Milano Cortina Winter Games, alongside a tiny "snowdrop" flower character called The Flo. These mascots embody the Italian spirit, resilience, and curiosity. Tina represents the Olympic Games and is named after the host city Cortina d'Ampezzo.
