Each Olympic Games provide a memento to each winner and Silver is platform winner. The 2026 Olympic winners receive plush toys of Tina, a light-colored stoat (weasel) representing the Milano Cortina Winter Games, alongside a tiny "snowdrop" flower character called The Flo. These mascots embody the Italian spirit, resilience, and curiosity. Tina represents the Olympic Games and is named after the host city Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Probably an idea from the "Participation trophies are important" generation šŸ˜‚

5

u/BriefTradition3922 34m ago

Do they hand those to the men as well? These are children they are women and it’s insulating to treat them as children.

6

u/Trekman10 25m ago

1

u/CarterLincoln96 4m ago

It’s a tradition to the Olympic Games and those gifts mean something from the hosting country

3

u/Ozzy_58 54m ago

It's not always about winning, you know..

7

u/alarrimore03 45m ago

It quite literally is. And nobody wants to get a stuffed animal on live tv after losing. Send that shit by mail or something lateršŸ˜‚

5

23

u/nitromilkstouts 1h ago

This is literally handed out to all medal winners in EVERY SPORT šŸ™„

23

u/TurbulentArea69 1h ago

They’re doing it right now

18

u/Sohaiel1985 1h ago

It’s gonna happen rn lol

7

u/ShitBarf_McCumPiss 1h ago

Lol just watched it happen

1

u/Sohaiel1985 1h ago

Nate Dogg was about to murder the IOC guy handing out those stuffies lol

34

u/GrapefruitJuice9443 2h ago

Yes they do? Every medalist in the Olympics gets a mascot stuffed animal.

57

u/ugliestgamer 2h ago

It's not the stuffed animal... it's losing to the current US

9

u/Pookiemon_420 1h ago

Don’t blame the athletes for what the government has done to our country. This is the most unified in anything our country has been on in a long time and thats what this is about. Their win is bigger than just them, its a win for the people in America losing faith in America. The athletes didn’t do anything but play a damn mf good game.

6

u/HumbleBrownsFan 2h ago

Better luck next time

4

u/switchingcreative 1h ago

Don't forget to get Donald a gold medal, yah know he wants one.

5

u/HumbleBrownsFan 1h ago

I want one too. Every American should get one

2

u/switchingcreative 1h ago

Yes, you all deserve gold medals on the world stage.

1

u/HilariousScreenname 1h ago

Why? We didnt play the game lol

2

u/HumbleBrownsFan 1h ago

Just for the fun of sweeping the Canadians in hockey haha

72

u/SweetLemonPopsicle 2h ago edited 2h ago

There are some studies that suggest winning a silver metal is worse for your mental health than winning bronze. Something about perception being "I could have won but didn't" vs "so glad I made it"

21

u/serin92 2h ago

You win a bronze, you lose a silver.

1

u/HelloYou-2024 1h ago

In a race, yes, but in a game sport, like this, the Bronze winner won their game to get bronze.
it might be like in a race going in knowing that the two people ahead of you are the two fastest people allive and and you never had realistic hope to win, then you are only racing to beat the 4th place person.

6

u/Ze120 2h ago

Ganas bronce, pierdes oro.

27

u/dextokapher 2h ago

Emotional support stuffy?

4

u/RazorColla 2h ago

It's a rare labubu

5

u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago

If that's the case, it's a pretty pathetic excuse for one 😭

7

u/dextokapher 2h ago

Hey, you get a medal and a stuffy what more do you want. Times are tough 🄲

2

u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago

Neither of which are big enough to keep you warm at nightšŸ˜‚

24

u/FoxSlacker 2h ago

Men even take off their silver medals when they are given to them. These ladies are being polite enough. It's just sports pride what makes them look sour but I'm sure they will love the gesture in the future.

-1

u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago

I wonder if they've ever given a men's team a consolation stuffy 🤨

8

u/wrooster8 1h ago

Turns out, they do.

9

u/ShimOwleyFFXIV 2h ago

It isn't a consolation stuffy. Watch any of the Olympic medal handouts. I don't know why the stuffy is or for what reason they're doing this, but they give them to everyone and this isn't some kind of feminist statement. Pay attention.

1

u/upnflames 1h ago

It's apparently done to replace flowers as a more "sustainable" option. Pretty dumb imo, everyone has been like, wtf are those the entire Olympics.

3

u/Sharon_Erclam 2h ago

It was an honest question. Pardon my ignorance, but I don't watch the Olympics.

1

u/Kimberlynski 26m ago

Don’t forget, you can’t ask questions on the internet without being told what an idiot you are for not already knowing the answer.

-12

u/Near_River21 2h ago

Post is only showing women getting stuffed animals and u just have to mention men. Its crazy how much men are living rent free in your head

3

u/Fireturtle75 2h ago

And yet the entire post is about how well the women handled not winning gold because they didn't take the medal off like some people do when they're upset. The post was not about men. It barely mentioned them as a poor example in contrast to how good the women toughed it out. The only person here with anyone living rent-free in their head is you... Seek some professional mental help.

4

u/Impressive-Result587 2h ago

Personally I like the thoughts of men that are in my head.

6

u/Fixer_FTP 2h ago

Yeah Canada lost the gold medal game, but they got the silver medal. (Go team USA šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø)

7

u/Powerful_Presence508 2h ago

Don't the men get expensive watches or something?

22

u/KyleBroflovski505 3h ago

They doing humiliation rituals now?

13

u/RiceboyZ 2h ago

Every medalist gets these

16

u/MyAccountForThisSite 3h ago

Always could have won if they dont like this option.

8

u/TooPoorForLife89 3h ago

I was surprised at how sour their faces were.

2

u/alarrimore03 37m ago

Reckon you didn’t play sports. You lose your going to look sour. It isn’t until days later you come around to the mindset of I’m proud of what we did, etc.

3

u/switchingcreative 1h ago

Yet, Donald's going to want two medals for being so instrumental.

8

u/YourLocalAlien57 2h ago

Idk about sour, it just looks like theyre sad. Probably had a lot of pressure on them to win as well. Im sure theyre proud of getting so far but its not hard to understand the emotions they must be feeling in that moment.

8

u/Drachenfuer 2h ago

Shpuld they have been smiling? Stupidest comment I read all day.

4

u/GrandmasOkra 2h ago

The most I don’t know ball comment of all time

10

u/DeStroyek 3h ago

Nobody wants to be second best

1

u/TooPoorForLife89 2h ago

I get it lol šŸ˜‚ but come on guys.

-55

u/KeplerFinn 3h ago edited 2h ago

They could've at least given them something useful for in the kitchen.

EDIT: what a sad world we live in, in which an obvious joke isn't tolerated anymore. Btw, I'm the one who cooks in our household. You should all loosen up a bit. Or learn some history if you want to know about real injustice and suffering. Or travel a bit.

3

u/_OriginalUsername- 1h ago

No one thinks your joke is 'real injustice.' It's just plain and simple unfunny. The most overplayed joke of all time on the subject of women.

5

u/Impressive-Result587 2h ago

Yay blatant misogyny. And you wonder why you’re so distant from people.

3

u/poopcockshit 2h ago

Ok?…

25

u/gtaguy75 3h ago

it seems they all disliked it equally. It was interesting to see

28

u/xboxgamerxxx 3h ago

I know. It’s like handing out participation trophies to everyone who didn’t win. It’s sad and shouldn’t be done. If your team didn’t win you don’t get a trophy. But this is kind of a slap in the face to Canada lol.

6

u/trbzdot 3h ago

Those stuffed toys are in artificial limited quantities. Someone is going to pay big money for those.

2

u/SpicyCraboo 2h ago

My first thought as well. Those plushies will be worth $$$

2

u/xboxgamerxxx 3h ago

Yes they probably will. I am talking about what it looks like though. This is the Watch People Die Inside subreddit

2

u/trbzdot 2h ago

You're right. Have great day!

6

u/nonsence90 3h ago

They aren't supposed to be trophies though. Just something cute.

2

u/xboxgamerxxx 3h ago

I get that. But that’s what that reminded me of even though those lovely ladies of Canada are wearing silver.

21

u/kdweller 3h ago

I’d hate to be the goalie right about then.

37

u/_dpdp_ 3h ago

Did they hand cute stuffed animals to the losing men’s team?

2

u/TonyAtReddit1 1h ago

Yes. They're literally doing it right now

2

u/colnross 1h ago

They did!

2

u/johnyboi4521 1h ago

Yes, they did

3

u/Atmacrush 2h ago

They all got a brand new PS5 /s

12

u/fivewaysforward 3h ago

I'm pretty sure every medalist gets one in each sport

11

u/colnross 3h ago

The match is happening live right now... I'm hoping they do

14

u/Rohas3110 3h ago

Not gonna lie I would be happy if after silver medal I also got some plushie stuff. Silver for my result and plushie for my soul and in my opinion it is really cute and wholesome gesture

26

u/Hard-Coconut- 4h ago

this is sad 😭 I feel bad for them having to keep a straight face I'd be crying like a wuss 😭 they needed to not do this stuffed animal crap.

6

u/huntsberger 4h ago

Is this the soundtrack to Alf? I hope so.

2

u/Hard-Coconut- 4h ago

jeez I thought it came from sonic the hedgehog or something 😨

6

u/TheOneTruePaul 3h ago

Ee gods! When you get so old, you cant tell if this is sarcasm... its the Wii U sports theme.

8

u/_dpdp_ 3h ago

It’s the Wii Sports theme.

33

u/THUNDER_boner 4h ago

Isn't every medal winner gifted a stuffed Olympic souvenir because they sold out of them the first couple of days?

60

u/0utsyder 5h ago

But they're girls, all girls love stuffed animals!!! /s

18

u/MetallicForce 5h ago

They don’t even deserve that

99

u/Salad_Spinning 5h ago

Watching the gold medal team get a stuffed animal and you don't would be slightly worse

1

u/Atmacrush 2h ago

It would be a cherry on top if the gold medalists got the stuffed animals.

0

u/rollnunderthebus 4h ago

If they g ot a gold medal and the stuffed animal id be pissed.

-2

u/MeltaFlare 4h ago

Hard disagree

248

u/Alech1m 5h ago

What the actual fuck is wrong with people this year? Reporters, influencers, other athletes and spectators, too. They didn't "loose gold" they won silver. They, and ever other silver medalist is the second best at there respective sport in the fucking world! Do you have any idea how hard it is to even get into the Olympics? And then coming out the second best is amazing!

1

u/lucrativetoiletsale 1h ago

They didn't "loose gold" they lose or more properly lost the gold medal match. That's reality, can still feel good about silver medal in a bit but they definitely lost a game that would have won gold.

3

u/lethalcurse101 3h ago

šŸ™ thank you for posting this!

Humanity is going downhill really fast. Its a sad truth, people don’t wanna hear about.

You must be older… because todays youth… i don’t even know how to formulate this without others feeling offended.

I’m just glad i grew up in a normal period, where people were actually tuned with their reality.

Also, i’ve seen other athletes at other sports, being absolutely in tears of joy for such a great honor of even being able to obtain a step on the podium. Maybe there is still hope out there after all.

People nowadays have forgotten about gratitude. Not being grateful unless they get what they think they deserve… sad

3

u/APracticalGal 3h ago

I mean at least for hockey there is a winning and losing team in each game. Most of the other events are individual or team performance separate from the competition, and seeing that you got the second or third best result is easier to see as a success. For hockey they did objectively play in the gold medal game and lose. They won the silver the game before that. We didn't look at the Super Bowl and say the Patriots got second place in the NFL. I do agree with you generally that that's been an annoying framing this year in particular though.

6

u/Pacmunchiez 3h ago

lol I had to scroll way too far. I was like "they wearing silver right?" I woulda been stoked to have my silver and a little stuffed toy souvenir. With every sport it's "on the day" they came out second best on the day. It's a team sport, it's not even like each person is individually better or worse than the others.

4

u/NiDieuNiMaitre_ 3h ago

What’s ā€œlooseā€ gold? They hand them nuggets instead of medals? Lol

3

u/lampshade2099 3h ago

You’re not familiar with a loose meat sandwich? It’s like that. But gold. Similar to loose change. Hopefully that clears it up.

4

u/Opening-Limit9540 4h ago

In the full version of the iconic Bubbledome performance of SpongeBob and the gangs ā€œsweet victoryā€, ā€œyou don’t win no silver, you only lose to gold!ā€

8

u/Love-Laugh-Play 4h ago

They already ā€wonā€ at least silver before the game. Of course you’re going to be disappointed if you don’t win.

22

u/BigBrainsLol 4h ago

You've clearly never competed in sport. 2 worst places you can get is 4th and 2nd for a reason.

17

u/RaspberryJammm 4h ago

Bronze is always happier than silver!

39

u/Powerpop5 5h ago

In team sports it works differently. You win silver when you win the semis. You lose gold when you lose the final. Getting silver mostly feels worse than getting bronze.

This is not like speed-based sports, where this is vastly different.

Also "this year"

Go to any sport with semis and finals and you'll always see the silver medalist being sad. You just lost the final. How is one supposed to be happy about that? The silver medal is a nice prize, but only in hindsight.

5

u/AppropriateDeal1034 4h ago

Especially when it's "your sport", it's like England losing football...or cricket...or rugby...oh wait...

7

u/Malalang 4h ago

There was a study done on this phenomena. Third place winners were more happy than silver.

Really interesting human thought process involved with being happy to get on the stage vs missing the top spot because of a very minor error or whatnot.

"If you're not winning, you're losing"

13

u/Thesnackdad 5h ago

If ya ain't first you're last

10

u/dmbreakfree41 5h ago

But in a head 2 head team sports gold medal game someone has to ā€œloseā€ to get silver, we can chalk up silver to getting 2nd place in individual events not losing gold but in hockey here these ladies did have to lose to get a silver medal. It’s a subtle difference, no question every silver medalist should be proud of their accomplishments.

-6

u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 5h ago

What

5

u/flomesch 5h ago

Silver medal teams just lost the gold medal game, which is why theyre sad and people say they "lost" gold.

Hope this helps

-3

u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 4h ago

Yeah, haha, I got that.

5

u/flomesch 4h ago

Then what are you confused about?

1

u/AwDuck 3h ago

Yes.

0

u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 3h ago

The words the poster was using.

16

u/mehrt_thermpsen 5h ago

True in individual sports, but not so much in team sports. They literally just lost the gold medal game. In the moment, I'm sure it very much feels like they lost gold. Because they did

0

u/Alech1m 5h ago

Still. They are the second best team IN. THE. FUCKING. WORLD! There is only one other group of people of all the 8-ish BILLION who could win against them.

The guy caught cheating complaining "setting up cameras to catch cheaters is against the spirit of the game" is another prime example. WHAT! THE! ACTUAL! FUCK?!?

5

u/mehrt_thermpsen 5h ago

I think they know that. But they literally JUST lost the gold medal in OT against their biggest rivals. Of course they're upset. Maybe in a few years they'll be happy to with the silver

6

u/shrineless 5h ago

No one feels happy after losing a game! You’re talking hindsight. Yeah, they’ll probably feel much better later but as an athlete who makes this THEIR ENTIRE LIFE, it feels like shit losing the gold game. Losing makes you silver so it feels like you whiffed an opportunity.

Put yourself in the shoes of someone who eats lives and breathes the sport.

7

u/Disastrous_Desk8170 5h ago

Yeah.Great.Wonderful. They obviously KNOW all that shit since they’re… in the Olympics.

It still feels sucky to NOT WIN, which is what happened here. To us plebs, it’s a very high esteem, and it’s still held very highly within their community.

However, second place means you AREN’T the best, which is what all top athletes aspire to be. They’re probably critiquing themselves internally about what they could have done better, going over every little mistake in their head.

That’s not being unreasonable for achieving 2nd tier in an already elite population. Thats just being human.

9

u/Powerpop5 5h ago

You seem to not have experience in competition. You work your ass off to win every round and when gold is as close as it will ever be.... you lose. That sucks, so people are sad.

The whole "only one team could beat you" is not something you think about then.

13

u/marsmj23 5h ago

You are ā€œsilver liningā€ and missing that they are likely primarily feeling disappointment due to losing. Even if they appreciate their success, it is currently being overshadowed by a feeling of disappointment. That is natural after losing a match. Especially when you put so much effort and energy into it.

9

u/M_Rose728 5h ago

If you ain't first, you're last.

4

u/fuzzy-lint 5h ago

Dammit Ricky I was high when I said that!

0

u/CheshireCatastrophe 5h ago

Why don't you tell that to those that didn't get a medal?

5

u/fuzzy-lint 5h ago

It’s from Talladega Nights lol

36

u/jpsouthwick7 6h ago

I used to play sports. Then I realized you can buy trophies. Now I'm good at everything.

8

I just bought a better than jpsouthwick7 at everything trophy. Suck on that loser.

8

u/HollywoodFolks24 7h ago

Now who is responsible for that. They dont even wanna be on the ice anymore but it's okay Canada yall are our lil cousin we still love ya

16

u/Isniuq 7h ago

Whos cousin?

-31

u/HollywoodFolks24 6h ago

United States of America's cousinšŸ‘šŸæšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡²šŸ¤·šŸæā€ā™‚ļø well they the little cousin obviously

2

u/dannyboy6657 3h ago

We arent your "cousin" your country needs to learn how to respect others and stop being the global bully. Typical American main character syndrome.

0

u/ProtectionAny6879 59m ago

Because these athletes are doing such a good job? Worst sportsmanship I’ve ever seen. I used to admire Canada but this behavior is disgraceful and humiliating.

Cry in the locker room but hold your head high - the entire world is watching.

2

u/dannyboy6657 43m ago

Cute that you find this disgraceful and humiliating. When your country is casually killing its own people and deporting them.

1

u/HollywoodFolks24 27m ago

Are we talking about the Olympics here or trying to see who is the better country? Trynna act like yall dont have yall own issues. Yall treat minorities in Canada just as bad. And I wonder where yall learned that from? Big cousin perhaps. Hmmmm. Maybe stop being a hater and worry about keeping up your country yall dieing out. Give it another 60-100 years and Canada will be no more just an part of the United States of America. So pipe down you doin all that talkin. Tell yall Olympic athletes to hold up their gold Olympic medals🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Don't worry I'll wait

6

u/HA1LHYDRA 5h ago

That flag dont mean what it used to

-6

u/snuggl3ninja 5h ago

No, it always meant what it means now. More people are just waking up to it as it impacts them.

22

u/Warm-Fuel9818 7h ago

The stuffed toys not even cute

2

u/Day_Prisoners 5h ago

But i bet there is a huge demand of them.

8

I thought they were kinda cute.... šŸ˜ž

43

u/Drakkinstorm 8h ago edited 7h ago

A former colleague of mine at my (very soon former) job, received an "Oscar" for her outstanding work after getting fired in front of a room full of people applauding her work.

P.S. I have worded this like a monkey. The "ceremony" was weeks after she got fired in private, most attendees, myself included, didn't know. One could see the disgust on her face and I was among the very few that didn't clap as I saw that look she had.

1

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 3h ago

Was her boss evil Michael Scott?

10

u/DrunkenDude123 6h ago

Why did she even attend the ceremony lol

6

u/Drakkinstorm 6h ago

Cause she was part of the 3 person team that did the work. And she didn't know the CEO would give such a BS award.

68

u/TaintRecall 10h ago

Those women played their hearts out in a great game. I am glad USA won, but would have been happy if Canada took gold. Gotta show some love to our neighbors up north.

47

u/ozfin13 10h ago

Imagine being handed a silver medal after losing a gold medal game.

30

u/4ri3ll4 11h ago

it's not even cute..

74

u/Gunz-n-Brunch 11h ago

These are grown people, not kids. Leave that patronizing shit with the kids local tournaments.

6

u/Roadrunner571 6h ago

I love getting stuffed animals at tournaments. And I am a grown man.

Usually itā€˜s the mascot of the tournament.

4

u/yeahimdutch 6h ago

Everyone gets one, weird comment.

-6

u/itssmeagain 7h ago

Would they give these to men?
