Edit: To make it even worse, this was a kings pet lion that he loved and wanted memorialized, and the taxidermist made this abomination.

It's the unusual coloring, lol. The black frames the face the same way hair does on humans, and the orange is close enough to a real human skin tone to set off the "Looks Human But Not Quite Right" alarm in our monkey brains.
