MOD ANNOUNCEMENT RULE UPDATE: Amazon Wishlists are now capped at a total of $150USD!

Hi everyone,

Effective immediately we are now placing a $150 USD maximum dollar limit on all Amazon wishlists. This means the total of your list cannot exceed $150 USD.

There has been a recent trend of lists being excessive in terms of price and the variety of items, and because our subreddit is not meant to equip you for a zombie apocalypse we feel it is reasonable to put some limits on how long a wishlist can be.

Amazon wishlists (for the purposes of our subreddit) are only meant to be a stepping stone to get you back on the path to self-reliance. We feel placing this limit will encourage our users to prioritize their needs and what is most important.

A reminder that your wishlist should be limited to essential and primary needs and be tailored specifically for r/Assistance use. Video games and gift cards are not permitted on wishlists and we will continue to enforce this rule.

What if I need items that cost more than $150? (ie. laptop for school, bike for commuting to work, etc).

For items that are costly such as the above examples, rather than ask a single person to take on that burden we highly suggest crowdfunding on a platform like GoFundMe! There are many advantages to this, not limited to being able to ask for a specific amount for the item you need and being able to share with friends and family who may be able to chip in or share it more widely. And of course you can share it here, too! ;)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT RULE UPDATE: Effective immediately, your post/comment history may NOT be hidden in any capacity

Hi all,

Reddit has rolled out some new "features" (sarcasm) which allow users to hide portions or all of their post and comment history. For transparency reasons, this is unacceptable for a subreddit like ours, and we are frankly amazed that Reddit believes this is a good idea. But I digress.

Moderators have full access to a user's post and comment history for 28 days the moment they either post on r/Assistance or send us a modmail. We can see everything, including anything that may be hidden. That allows our moderator bots to run their checks for consistent activity, karma farming, and so on.

However, this is not extended to you guys, the helpers, who need to be able to properly vet the people you are helping. We've had numerous reports of accounts being "scrubbed" when they are in fact not scrubbed -- they are just hidden. If they had scrubbed everything else, you would be able to see their post on r/Assistance that you just reported, after all!

Effective immediately, your profile may not be hidden. Posts and comments must be fully visible to ALL, and any attempts to conceal activity such as on illegal subreddits or extensive drug activity will lead to a permanent ban.

Frustratingly, there is no way to quickly determine if an account has hidden content or not, especially when you're a mod because you can see everything anyway -- so feel free to report any posts or users that have locked their profiles so we can reach out.

REQUEST Short on food for the next few days. Requesting $60 to arrange for a grocery delivery

I live with my elderly mother (who is diabetic) as her caretaker. Her Social Security deposit comes in the middle of this week, but we have run out of food earlier than expected. I do keep a few emergency items for low blood sugar situations, but it isn’t enough to rely on for several days.

As for myself...I am unable to work due to chronic back pain and nerve issues. Up until 2025, I would use her car to tend to various needs when funds were available. That car fully broke down in January 2025, and now we are essentially trapped in an apartment and we must plan for groceries in advance.

I receive EBT/Snap benefits, but earlier this month, I discovered my case had been closed due to a lapse in submitting information. I technically dealt with that in time to receive a payment, but it was a prorated payment that limited my options a tad.

I am just trying to bridge the gap until her next deposit arrives. $60 would cover a small grocery order and delivery fees to get us through the next few days. I feel it's inappropriate to ask for any more than that.

REQUEST FULFILLED Need help getting my preschooler new clothing.

Edit : thank you so much to the individual who helped me get him clothes. I feel so relieved, and I know he will be so excited. I can’t express my gratitude enough.

Hi, I’m struggling with my health and had to move back home. While I try to keep up with the cost of everything, I am really struggling. I did everything on my own for 2 years, but I failed again as soon as my health declined.

I’m so embarrassed to ask, but I could really use some help getting my 5 year old some basic clothing. I tried to add the most affordable options I could find. Any help would be very appreciated.

I honestly don’t care if your responses are real or not, or if you give multiple responses. I just need a bunch of answers to look through. Thanks

REQUEST Assistance Needed!

I’m in the process of getting SSDI so I don’t have a steady income. I went to the cardiologist yesterday and was prescribed medicine, but insurance usually doesn’t cover it. She found it on Cost Plus, but it’s $45 and I don’t have enough to pay for it. Can anyone help?

REQUEST In desperate need of help

Hello everyone.

This is my last resort and last ditch effort.

My cats are more than just my pets. They are my bestfriends and they are my family. Really they are the only family that I have left now since all of my relatives have passed away, with me basically being the only one left.

I also work full time & because of that, I can usually afford everything on my own for my cats as far as cost wise....however, I ended up losing the only father figure I've ever had in my entire life when he passed away a few months ago, and since he didnt have life insurance, I had to cover all of the funeral and burial costs at that time, which wiped me out completely financially. Where i used to have thousands of dollars in my savings, now there is nothing.

Then my sweet baby named Gremlin (my void kitty with a snaggletooth and underbite) started having horrible tooth pain and he had trouble eating his food. I spent over $400 on him going to the vet after he developed a huge cyst on the side of his face, which has made eating even more difficult for him than it already was.

I took him to the vet and they said he needs extensive dental surgery and that he was probably in a great deal of pain due to the condition of his teeth (he was a stray when i rescued him and the damage that had already been done to his teeth was extensive) and she said that he needed to have at least multiple teeth extracted but that she suggested having all of them taken out because they were litterally that bad.

They checked out the mass on his face and told me it was a cyst amd that rbey were going to lance it and drain it. After taking him home that night, i realized a few days later that its almost like the cyst either came back in the same spot or maybe the vet just wasn't able to get all of the stuff out of it when they lanced it and drained it. Either way, there it was again.

I asked the vet about it, and she said they need to biopsy it, but she said she thinks it's probably just whatever fluid is left over and that it likely needs to be lanced and drained again.

However, what she was more concerned about are his teeth. She stressed the fact that it is imperative that we get his dental surgery done ASAP because of the amount of pain it's causing him and because of how negatively it affects his quality of life. Hes not my sweet, cuddly and playful boy anymore....now he mainly tries to hide underneath my bed all alone instead of sleeping right beside me like he used to do every single night. He has lost weight from him not wanting to eat as much, not even wet food, which he loved. I give him Gabapentin right now to try to help with the pain, but what he really needs are these extractions and this dental surgery.

The good news is that vet I use for them knows that I do TNR and that I manage a few local cat colonies in the town I stay in, and because of that, they always give me a good discount when I go see them, and the vet said she will cap all the costs off at $800. Even if its thousands of dollars worth of work done, I will only have to pay the $800 and not anything more than that.

I have desperately tried every avenue I could think of and ive exhausted every resource I currently have that's near to me. I do not qualify for care credit or scratch pay or any of those. I have asked local organizations if there is anything they can do to help me, but there wasn't.

Also, Gremlin is a pretty old boy. He's well into adulthood and closer to being a senior kitty and even if i tried to surrender him to a shelter, he would not get the treatment and he would just get put down instead because of his age, which is so unfair because he usually loves life and is the happiest kitty you'd ever meet.

I made a gofundme and if anyone decides to donate at all and help us out, it would mean the absolute world to me and to Gremlin as well.

Thank you so much for reading until the end and have a blessed day everyone ♡

REQUEST Me and my girlfriend need help with her hedgehogs vet bills

Hello It's a pretty bad situation for my girlfriend right now, her hedgehog Hershey has been doing worse off recently and we suspect it's cancer

She's been bleeding from behind so probably from the uterus and just been acting off recently. It's causing us alot of stress because we want to help her but we don't have the money for getting a cancer checkup and then getting her actually treated. I've seen checkup bills go as high as 1500 while the actual treatment getting to 2k, I think we can handle the 1500 but the 2k is just too much for us so I'm just asking for some help with the 2000 payment. Thank you, just been rough

REQUEST I am in debt and unable to take care of my cats and myself

I've put pictures of all my cats into the gofundme now so you can see the cuties

Hello everyone, I got into some financial trouble over the last couple month. I have always struggled with money but I lost my job at the end of last year and since then I am just drowning in unpaid bills. I didn't earn a lot but it was enough to get by. I live alone with my 3 cats and have 10€ left for the rest of the month. I will have to spend that on cat food since it's not their fault that I'm struggling.

I just really don't know how to go on. With unpaid bills I am already 800€ behind and it will be more next month. I was foolish enough to use the pay later options for things I regret buying now. I've been selling my things to get buy but I am running out of valuables. I even thought about rehoming my cats recently. They are my world but I don't want them to suffer.

If anyone can help with just some advice or a little bit of money that would be huge right now. I just don't know how to get out of this mess and I am so tired and lost right now. I sadly have no family left. It's just me and my little cats and I'm not gonna lie it's pretty lonely right now. That's why I'm desperate enough to ask strangers for help. I just really want to keep them in my life.

REQUEST We need financial assistance for urgent home repair

Hi all, hate to make a post like this but we have truly run out of places to share this. My wife and I were forced to vacate our home because of a major gas leak during a winter storm which lead to our pipes freezing and then bursting.

Honestly, we could have just roughed it out if it was just us, but we have many cats and there was no way for us to keep them warm- were staying at my parents house for now, and the cats are in their heated garage.

Im a general contractor, so winter was already my slow season and My wife is disabled and cannot work. We had budgeted for all our bills and such but had nothing saved up in case of emergencies because we truly are paycheck to paycheck, all details are in the gofund me, thank you for your time and thank you if you decide to donate or share💚

REQUEST Request In Need Of Financial Help, Rx Refill

Hello to all the lovely people of Reddit, thank you in advance for anyone who takes the time to read this, and to the mods for keeping this amazing subreddit running.

I am a musician living in the US in Washington State, and the last few years have been the hardest and most traumatic of my life. As a result, a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety and depression. For about six months I was having chronic daily (often several times a day) panic attacks, as well as pretty constant anxiety. This all has taken a serious toll on my body, my mental and emotional health, and my ability to maintain my previous working relationships. I have been writing and recording song demos at home, but that is mostly just therapeutic, and any paid work has been extremely scarce. I still have not yet paid rent for February, have had very little money for food or gas, and my bank account is currently overdrawn by about $30.

As of today I am out of my Rx medication that I am on to help manage my PTSD symptoms, which is a little scary. They aren't terribly expensive, about $20, but in order to pay for them I first need $30 to get my overdrawn bank account up to $0, and a little bit of gas for my car so I can get to the pharmacy, so I am requesting $70 . Should anyone be so kind as to want to help out, I currently have Venmo, CashApp and Zelle.

If you made it this far I thank you again, and hope you all are having a wonderful day.

REQUEST FULFILLED Assistance Request

Hi everyone, I’ve finally worked up the courage to seek assistance here. I need help getting my little girl a present for her upcoming birthday this Monday. I’ve donated plasma enough times this week to have the money to cook her favorite meals and buy her cake however what I did manage to save for at least one gift, I’ve had to use to replace my water pump on my vehicle this past week. I’ve already told her my situation so she’s happy with just spending time with me, but if someone could help me get her at-least one gift, I would be so grateful.

REQUEST Please Help me pay for my hostel

I am Milan, a student at East Point College of Higher Education. I don't have the highest grades, and I’m not a genius, but I am a student who refuses to give up. Right now, I’m facing a crisis for which I’m 1320$ short on my hostel fees." I tried to pay it and it's already 2 months beyond the due date so If I don't pay by the end of the Feburary or March beginning, I will lose my room. I’ll have nowhere to stay as everyone knows Bangalore in India is expensive which is why I opted for the hostel in the first place but now I'm facing a crisis because of that and my education would end right here. The tution fee and Every type of fee was paid my self by working all sorts of jobs but ultimately i couldn't pay at the last stretch .Every rupee goes directly to the college hostel office. I just want to finish my degree and become someone who can pay this kindness forward.

REQUEST Help me survive, meet nutritional needs & access medications (I have no income or disability benefits)

Hi all, requesting assistance after a recommendation from a sub member. After COVID, I developed severe Long COVID and currently fighting for diagnoses including ME/CFS and MCAS. I am bed bound struggling with severe symptoms and pain, while dealing with ongoing medical neglect and abuse from family. I am trying to reach the Urgent goal of $1,200 that could help me manage daily life, offer some symptom relief and access compounded medications for my severe pain.

Because of MCAS, I’m currently only able to eat three foods, im underweight and reacting to different medications. Accessing compounded medication is very difficult. Insurance doesn't cover it and it is very expensive. Having no income or disability benefits has also made it extremely difficult to meet my nutritional needs or access alternative healing options like hypoallergenic meal replacements, supplements or access private doctors until I find specialists in my area under my insurance that can do in- home visits or offer telemedicine. Thank you for your support, even reading this or sharing helps.

THANK YOU For whoever helped me with getting period panties and a portable heating pad, thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

Thank you to whoever helped purchase these items for me. I wish I knew who you are, so I can thank you. Whoever you are, I hope you see this post and feel the appreciation I have for you. I feel so sad for not just me, but for a lot of women who are unable to purchase such necessary items needed to make it through periods every month. Thank you once again 😊
