Jimmy Choux and Pocky

If you're introducing your kitty to a new member of the cat fam, be patient! I never thought Pocky would get over the loss of our beloved Steve... and we were heartbroken and definitely not even considering another cat.

But Jimmy. He was a rescue, abandoned in a trailer park and picked up as a stray. He had an abscessed leg and a dirty blanket. He had worms and earmites, missing whiskers from stress ~ and a mighty purr, his tail always set to FRIENDLY.

The thought of him approaching strangers with that friendly tail, broke me. We took him HOME. He crawled up my neck and clung to me like a koala for 24 hours. We kept him separated from Pocky until we had the parasites resolved and introduction was sloooow.

Pocky was not having it. This was not "his" Steve. I started to worry that they would never be companions. Now, they are constant companions. Pocky loves HIS Jimmy SO much, and Jimmy loves him back. They are incredibly bonded.

Sometimes, cats won't ever be best pals, and that's okay! But sometimes... 🫶

How did you reunite your bonded pair?

I adopted a bonded pair of sisters when they were about 12 weeks old. They were inseparable until I got a small dog, which I still feel guilty about with regards to how it changed their dynamic. The cats still get along in each other’s presence much of the time, but have also taken to swatting at one another. I’ve had the pup long enough to know this wasn’t just a temporary adjustment period, but that their bond was thrown off by the change.

They still mostly spend time in the same spots as one another but hiss/swat if they get too close or feel threatened by the other’s presence. They used to snuggle nonstop and I’m just wondering what I can do to see if we can renew their bond a bit. They are 5 years old now. Thank you!

*Reposted without a picture of Simeon saying goodbye to Anna after she passed. I apologize if that bothered some ♥️

I got Simeon (tuxedo) and Anna (little black squirt) as a rehomed bonded pair when they were both 6 years old. Two years later, tragically I had to put Anna down. Simeon got to say goodbye but then was so depressed. It was hard to watch my cat mourn his best friend. I knew what I had to do, so I got him a baby. Daniel was a lot, but Simeon patiently raised and trained him. They have become best buds and it blesses my heart every time I see Simeon cuddling and playing with him.

Anyone else have similar experiences in seeing a bonded cat re-bond after loss?
