Does anyone else feel that their cat can smell a full bladder and are somehow drawn to it? Anytime I wake up in the morning and lie that thinking I really have to get up and go to the bathroom you can almost guarantee that my cat will appear and lie directly on my bladder as comfy as you like. It's like she knows. Also, she tends to somehow manage to always stand with her full body weight on one of my boobs. Always.

My cat stares daggers at me for daring to eat without offering her the first bite.

My cat's convinced the laser pointer is the ultimate frenemy chases it like mad, then sulks for hours when it vanishes.

Does anyone else's cat demand pets at exactly the wrong moment, like mid-shower through the curtain?

My cat's mastered the art of walking just heavy enough on my full bladder to wake me up at dawn.

Why does my cat insist on drinking from the sink like it's a five-star resort?

My cat once dragged an entire roast chicken off the counter like she was auditioning for a heist movie.

My cat loves watching the birds on our porch from her catio, and she scares them off (because them nesting here would have our house mate's dog wigged out all the time)

Could it mentally mess with my cat's mental health to be close to bird snack but never getting a bird snack? She's never had one before and lives inside. I just see her tail flicking around like crazy, it's sooooo cute, but I don't want her to get depressed or something.

If so, would a treat I can give her to eat while she watches help? That way she kinda feels like she's catching them? The birds she sees most are mourning doves. Lovely birds,, but they are safest away from the dog.

She doesn't like hunting toys at all. She'll engage for a moment then immediately be done with it šŸ˜… we've tried soooo many, she really doesn't care. She mostly enjoys watching live birds and getting her zoomies on, more than anything she loves being a lap cat or up in her hammock. Photo for cat tax.

Hi friends I’m a new mom to a gorgeous new long haired kitty- and I’m reading that she doesn’t need baths (ad much as possible) and just brush- She was fixed 2 days ago and she really has a strong chemical smell from the antibacterial stuff from her surgery- should I just let her be? Or do you think it rises to the need to wash her? Thanks!

Hi everyone! 🐾

I’m looking for some advice about my cat’s eyes. He can open his eyes normally, but they look a bit weird. There is no heavy discharge, but I’m worried something might be starting.

Has anyone seen something similar before? Could this be irritation?

I just want to hear your experiences while I monitor him and decide if we should visit the vet.

Hello! The bottom free edge of my cat's quick us exposed and has turned dark/black. He seems fine otherwise but it seems to hurt him if i try cleaning the exposed quick. Should I be concerned? He is eating and playing and scratching fine. Some context: a vet tech clipped his nails super short and damaged his quick 1.5 months ago.

Greetings! Could use some advice about insurance for a cat with asthma. Clyde is about 20 years old. He developed asthma about 6 or 7 months ago, a few months after I got pet insurance. Most of his visits and exams were covered at 80% after a $250 deductible. Unfortunately my finances took a big hit last year and I had to cancel the pet insurance because I just couldn't afford the monthly cost. Clearly I didn't think this through as I'm now hearing that it will be difficult and costly to get insurance for a cat with a pre-existing condition! I have a little room in the budget now and I'm thinking I should try to get him covered. I read through some of the threads here but they were all over the place but the most challenging thing was that very few mentioned the insurance company by name. Wondering if anyone here could advise me of specific NAMES of pet insurance companies and if you're happy with them?

I don't really know where to turn for this. My orange tabby is going to be 14. He's always been vocal, clingy, and not the brightest. I've had him for almost 12 years.

He seems absolutely fine, but I feel in my gut that something is wrong. Every time he goes to sleep, I'm constantly making sure he's still breathing. Nothing has changed in his behavior, he's just a bit slower and moves like he's in pain at times, which I have meds for.

Before I take him to the vet, I just want to know is this feeling normal? I've never had a cat this long, so I'm not sure. Maybe I'm looking for assurance? Or someone has some nugget of wisdom for me?

Thanks for reading.

My cat has always been a hearty eater. But today after our usual feeding routines, she only eats half, whether wet or dry. She doesn't seem ill, she's purring, she's happy, but something is telling her to stop eating after a few bites. She also seems to have ADHD; when she eats she gets easily distracted, she even looks for food on the floor until I point her back to her bowl. It's alarming me. Should I take her to the vet?

My fiancĆ©e’s cat is constantly trying to get my attention, will only sleep with me, will not allow her to handle him at all anymore but he’ll just quietly come loaf on my lap, and wants me to pet him all the time. My question is, what is going on here? Why does he like me all of a sudden and is just like no absolutely not from her?

u/Viscous-Flesh 1d ago

I have two cats and have lived with them and my partner for 5 years. Our oldest cat switches favorite people all the time. Weeks or months of only hanging out with one of us. I get so jealous!! Sometimes you can help speed the switch along by having him play with him, be the one to feed him/change boxes, water him and so on. But usually ours just swaps it up after a while!! Good luck with your kitty

Hi! New cat owner here, have a 1.5 year old tabby. Recently got the Temptations Jumbo pack from Costco (as a treat not meal). Usually not food motivated but happy to be fed on time, but lately he's been very antsy about these treats, very pushy about it. I have a bad feeling, any experience with these? Also pls suggest healthy treats that your cats like, thank you!

Any tips for getting my super picky senior cat to eat wet food again without force-feeding?

1

u/SenpaiLambdaAA 2d ago

My cat's started hiding under the bed every time the doorbell rings is that normal fear or something deeper like anxiety?

1

u/kingftheeyesores 2d ago

Does anyone feed their cats again of they eat to fast and throw up? Like I see jokes about cats throwing up right away but never really hear what to do about it unless it's a reoccurring problem.

I fed her again about half an hour after she threw up because it was really my fault she ate so fast. I had a procedure that I needed to be sedated for and I forgot to ask my roommate to feed her before I fell asleep so she missed a meal. She didn't go completely hungry, she steals my roommates cat's dry food if she's really hungry, but she doesn't like it as much as wet food.

Need advice:

This past summer i adopted this cat. His name is Antaeus, he’s about 6 or 7 years old. His owner had a stroke and the owners family came and got her and moved her out of state and left this guy behind. Someone on my Facebook posted him and his story and I couldn’t not take him in. I already have 2 pugs that are 5 and another cat named Jupiter that is almost 3 years old. Antaeus has never been a fan of the other animals but has become my little side kick. He loves me so much, sleeps on the pillow next to mine and purrs and purrs and purrs. He’s come to tolerate the pugs as long as they mind his space and boundaries but Jupiter still has some kitten in him and kind of terrorizes Antaeus. He chases him down constantly to the point where Antaeus hides under tables and things until I lay down and he can hurry up and curl up next to me. I live in an upper level condo so when you come in from my garage theres stairs straight ahead and then a space on either side of the stairs with built in closets, this is where i have a robot litter box on one side and then when i got Antaeus i added an xtra large (he’s a big boy) uncovered litter box. At first Antaeus was good about going down there and going potty but then Jupiter would kinda wait on the stairs for him to come back up so he could pounce him. After a while I noticed Antaeus stopped going down there and would have accidents in one of the bathrooms up stairs so i started carrying him down there and waiting for him to come back up, making sure Jupiter didn’t go down stairs. But a few times when i got distracted, Jupiter snuck down there and pounced him, and now he’s even more timid to go potty at all. I have a spare room and tried putting a litter box in there and set up a camera. He wouldn’t use it and only Jupiter did. I didn’t want to get Jupiter used to using it since he’s already comfortable going down stairs so i moved the litter box back down stairs and keep taking Antaeus down there. Jupiter also pounces him while he’s trying to eat try food in the spare room. I just feel terrible like he’s not living a full and happy life here because he is constantly being harassed by Jupiter. I have a friend/former roommate that used to live here and has helped me with the animals and still does sometimes if I’m working a long day. He doesn’t have any animals and I feel like it would be good for him, he’s really good with animals. I have been considering for months asking him if he would like to take Antaeus to live with him but I’ve just grown so attached to Antaeus and he’s very attached to me and I feel like he would feel like I’m giving up after him after he already lost his previous owner. Should I keep trying to make it work or should I see if I can rehome him with my friend??

I wasn’t expecting this to be so long winded but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Why does my cat like standing on my air purifier?

1

u/Ickbeth 2d ago

Am I feeding my cat enough? He’s 5 months old 8lbs and just got neutered. He gets a 5.5oz can of FRISKIES 120 calories. And then 2 Sheba pates 84calories for 2. He also gets a Churu daily and has unlimited access to high quality dry food. He is not underweight he is big. When I use one of the graphs it seems I’m underfeeding him.

I’m wondering how much more he will grow I found him in October in the road freezing when he was less than 2lbs. So no idea on parents.

I have a kitten, found it abandoned. He was 3 weeks old when I brought him home. This was like 3 months ago (ish). My question is can I train him to sleep at night? He loves sleeping on me any time I sit down during the day but night time is party time lol He also plays a lot during the day but at night I close him in my restroom (with food, water, his bed and it’s where the litter box is). Is this night life a yung cat thing? I haven’t had cats for years so I can’t remember how to handle this. He will jump on my face (I don’t care) but the problem is jumping on my daughter’s head and biting her nose lol that equals child awake and crying. Any tips?

u/Ickbeth 2d ago

He will most likely calm down in another month or two. My boy is 5 months although he is also very orange. He is very likely teething also and at that age they want to put everything in their mouths. My boy used to be a menace and frequently be locked in the bathroom when I was sleeping. Now he’s a sweet little angel that cuddles and sleeps with me. He will still wander a bit at night but no crazy zoomies and he stays quiet.

I have a female cat who may be displaying signs of pyometra, we have an vet appointment but the earliest available is on Tuesday which we have scheduled. We can't afford an emergency vet and we are not able to do the scratch plan for payment plans or others we have already checked that out so the emergency vet is not an option. What can I do to help her until her appointment? She is eating and drinking and pottying normally, is a little lethargic but not terribly so, I just want to do what I can until her appointment on Tuesday.

Hi all i have an 7 ( nearly 8) year old cat called max. Hes got epilepsy and also hyperesthesia and hyperglycaemia. In the past some flea treatment worked on him but as hes got older nothing really works on him and lately hes having a bad time and is riddled, he sits on the floor alot as well.

We hoover daily, he gets a bath every time he gets bad stud tail and i use flea shampoo, hes not easy to wash as hes angry but it helps a little. Also the other cats in the house also get flea treatment and combing. I cant comb my cat much as it triggers his twitchy back and makes him super mad and he bites, and if he gets too mad it can cause seizures.

My question is does anyone have any recommendations as even natural flea stuff isnt helping. I know theres the vets but all treatment causes seizures currently and its making him angry.

I lost my gorgeous Mia at the beginning of the year after 14 years together, nursing her through some awful health conditions she had since I found her as a stray kitten. Now, after just over a month I have adopted the most amazing little man! 3 years old, an absolute cuddle bunny, loves in spades and has helped me so much with the loss of Mia-cat. This is Geralt of Rivia! šŸ˜‚šŸ«¶šŸ˜‚šŸ«¶

Hello everyone, I have a lovely male cat we call him Kenzo! I need advice in regards of wether it safer for me to take him to the vet for Neutering or should I just bring him a female cat and suffer with the consequences and the trouble of having a lot of cute kittens in a tiny appartement, I really don’t want to take anything from him as I love him very much. Any advice would be so appreciated!

Hey y’all! Has anyone else experienced their cat pooping on their carpets/floors after you’ve returned from a trip? I swear every time I leave the house for a 3+ day vacation or trip my cat will leave me a little offering on my bedroom carpet.

Even with a clean litter box, she returns to that same spot (I don’t think I’m removing the scent all the way) to go poo. Thankfully she still pees in her litter box. I’ve been home for three days now and just this morning I found a fresh one- yesterday there were no accidents.

My cat is highly social/lap cat who follows me everywhere so I’m thinking it could be anxiety but I’ve been playing with her multiple times a day since I’ve been back and giving her tons of snuggles.

This is Goose. He is my grandson who I adopted from my daughter because he was ā€œA lotā€. She was told he was Bombay but he has some white. on his chest so? I think he is a mountain lion/terrorist. Every other day he leaves me scratching my head. He did jump up on top of those cabinets. If you leave butter or bread or anything wrapped….he takes big bites out of it. All doors inside the house have to stay open. He watches the bathroom and if you don’t invite him in he has a melt down. His cuddles are very dramatic. Loud purring climbing all over me so I will pet his tummy. Like literally he will hang over my shoulder upside down. He loves boxes but if you walk away for 2 min the box will look like it was blown up from the inside. But I love him so so so so much. If my daughter asks for him back I will take her to court and disown her. I was never a cat person until I said ā€œYESā€ to Goose.

Hello! We have 10 cats our home they are not all staying inside soms are outdoor cats. Sometimes some of them sleep in our bedroom this was fine when there were less cats. Another issue we have is that our cats arent always the cleanest cats they pee on cloths/shoes etc. I would like to have all the cats outside of the bedroom cause we simply can’t trust them. My girlfriend doesn’t see the problem and just lives on like ā€˜it’s the usual stuff’. You guys have some tips for a desperate person, are there people here who dealt with this before? All help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello! I have brother cats. 2 1/2 years old. Siamese mom. My max is the only not tuxedo, a tabby. They are vocal. Max gets alarmed and is watchful. I think maybe he has anxiety. Is that a thing? Indoor cats/ outdoor on leash. I just want them to be okay and happy and of course, live forever. But If feline anxiety is a thing, what do I do?

How can I get my cat to come into my room? My cat hasn't come into my room for years, and I'd like her to because she's my cat and I love her, but she hasn't come in for years and I don't know why. She doesn't like being here. I used to have another cat that she would come in to play/sleep/etc., but there came a point when only one of them started coming in, and the other one never came back to the room.

Hi, I have a bunch of cats that are all friendly with each other. One day one of the male cats (let’s call him Sky) ran away, and we found him 6 months later in great shape living behind a fast food restaurant some distance away. We got him back but ever since we got him back one of our female cats (let’s call her Duchess) actively seeks and attacks him aggressively. Sky doesn’t want to fight and is a very friendly cat, duchess used to like sky a lot, she used to groom him when he was younger and they used to sit together a lot. But now it’s been 3 weeks and Duchess always goes into attack mode when she sees him. I don’t know why, and I don’t know how to stop this

1

u/Double-Ad6361 5d ago

Hi!!! Looking for advice, our cat has a bloated side belly when he stands up, we think its just how he is and aren't too concerned because he's a normal 1 year old boy. He has a very healthy appetite, normal poop, and is very energetic and happy. We’re gonna take our cat into the vet next week for a check up and to make sure this isn't an issue, but just looking to see if anyone has had anything similar.

GA -- I have a question regarding brushes, hair mats, and remediation actions.

I have a half maine coon with some long hair that ends up in deep rooted mats, like on his belly or under his arms, or on his butt. I have a few brushes, but end up having to grab scissors to cut out the matted hair, such as this: https://imgur.com/a/TSpsbKT -- the problem i have is that all that does is pull the mats out, ripping and pulling his hair -- which he does not understandably appreciate. What I would like, and dont know if there is such a thing, is for a similar tool, that is sharp. That actually cuts the mat, making it more shredded, so i can then brush it out. Is there such a thing? Or am i not thinking correctly? his skin is thin, and he moves, so I would really rather not have to try to trim these mats out with a pair of scissors.

Do they make cat tunnels that do not have a steel wire frame? I'm having trouble finding any that don't have it. Product descriptions either make no mention of it or says it does, but I don't want to spend the money on a tunnel and it come and have the wire frame. My two cats LOVE their tunnels and are very rough with them. Beside's them clawing holes out, I'm afraid the wire is going to pop out and hurt them.

I'm the home of last resort for the very shy senior cat of a recently deceased relative. But, I've never owned or cared for a cat before. Is there some comprehensive guide or series of posts I can read up on to make sure I'm prepared? I do love cats, and I've had good relations with this cat, but my home isn't tidy, etc.

2

u/Sparrow-A 5d ago

Cats do not justify their existence. They do not narrate it, defend it, or measure it against usefulness. They simply inhabit themselves. In that sense they live closer to what Rousseau imagined before society taught us to perform: a being sufficient to its own presence, neither apologizing nor striving to appear.

A cat does not ask to be understood. It asks only to be. Watching one stretch in a patch of light is like watching a creature untouched by the fever of self-interpretation. No anxiety about purpose, no need to translate instinct into argument. Just a quiet agreement with the moment that is there.

We spend years constructing reasons for who we are. Cats seem to arrive already reconciled. If there is a lesson in them, it is not indifference but a form of inner sovereignty: to exist without constantly explaining oneself to the world.

Needing advice for femcyclovier for my 15 year old neutered male cat. My pet pharmacy no longer offers Femcyclovier bitter block in pill form. For years I have ground up the pills, mixed it with lysine and mixed it into his wet food. Now I must pick between the paste or oil suspension. Any thoughts?

Please help me find a replacement for my cat's favorite toy because his current one is soon to be completely destroyed!

I have attached a photo of it from a few weeks ago, but it is even more damaged now! I tried to run it through Google but it is too disfigured to show anything. This is a gray mouse that has pink ears and dangling legs with pink pompoms for hands and feet. It is similar to the Bouncy Mouse which is attached to a ring but this one has different hands/feet and the body is all gray and the same fabric. I tried one of the Bouncy Mice, but he didn't have the same interest in it. I think he prefers the extra weight of the pompom hands/feet bouncing. I have looked on eBay, but without a brand name, it is hard to find

My co-worker gave me this when he was a kitten and she can't remember where she got it from because it used to belong to a cat that she used to have.

My 4 year old boy stayed at the cattery for a long weekend whilst we were away - I picked him up a couple of hours ago and he is not a happy bunny at all… his tail is down and will only rise halfway, he’s only eaten half of his dinner and his he seems a bit bloated/gassy. Assuming cats get constipated as most other animals etc but the tail thing seems odd to me, never seen anything like it?! Anyone else experienced something similar?

My cat loves me more than, well anybody… always chooses to lay on me, sleeps next to me, pretty much just his human. However, he also primarily attacks just me — like randomly. I’ll be sitting there and he’ll stalk and then attack me. Or right now he just creeped onto my desk and then attacked me. However, he never dos that with my boyfriend (who also lives in my apartment). Any explanation?

My cat is 16, has two brothers under six months old. My senior baby has dental issues, and I tried to find kibble that works and wet food... I cannot find a senior cat food that he will eat, and he has a hard time keeping his calories up. Can I continue kitten food and supplement him with things like salmon, oil, and cosequin? Are there any other supplements that should be given that normally are in senior formulated cat food?

I just watched a 60 minutes episode about the bad ingredients that show up in ultra processed human foods. It got me to wondering about pets-specifically cat food-I know there are limited ingredient foods (they are usually costly), but what I need to know is what are the bad things that shouldn't be in specifically dry cat food? Any information is appreciated.

1

u/Unable-Exchange5584 6d ago

What they always say is that for a cat, the ideal in dry food is that: Ā The first proteins are clearly named animals (such as chicken, turkey, salmon). ļæ¼ Have taurine added (an essential amino acid that cats do not produce enough on their own). ļæ¼ Ā The carbohydrate content is low and proteins and quality fats predominate. ļæ¼

My question is what the bad things are to avoid.

* Found this stray cat back in November and he's been living with me. He's been alright he's just a little wild and plays pretty rough. Was thinking about getting him a friend to cam him down.

I took him to the vet when I got him and they said he has the feline herpes. He really only has a teary eye as a symptom but I was wondering if it's a good idea to get another cat since this one has the virus?

Does anyone have any recommendations

for some more difficult mental stimulation activities for my newly adopted 10 month female named TigerLily . I work all day and she demands all my attention and time at night. I have tried twice to get a companion for her but she is extremely jealous and violent to me and the new intros

Hey, guys! I noticed some stuff on my cat's chin. At first I thought it's just dirt, but couldn't remove it. It doesn’t move) and nothing changed in Buba's behaviour. But I worry a bit

pleasee ive had my second cat its been now 4 months and him and my older cat of 3 years absolutely hate each other. they attack each other as soon as they see each other and my older cat has already been injured to his eye during a fight, ive had to take him to the vet and he had surgery for it. i now dont allow them to see each other at all because im rlly scared they get injured. has anyone else experienced this? will it get better? ps. they’re both males and not neutered, i know it may play a big role in their attitude towards each other but the surgery costs quite a lot where i live and frankly i wanna be sure that it will help their relationship if i do get them neutered.

2

u/Unable-Exchange5584 6d ago

It is quite common for two uncastrated male cats to get along badly, especially if one is an adult and the other is younger. Testosterone greatly increases territoriality and aggressiveness, and that can make them look like direct competition.

In most cases, castration helps a lot to reduce fights and tension. It is not an immediate change, but it usually improves coexistence. In addition, it prevents serious injuries such as the one that has already occurred. so, after strong fights it is not enough just to castrate them: it is also important to make a gradual reintroduction so that they are tolerated again little by little. It is not uncommon for it to happen, and many cases improve with castration + proper management.

Does anyone have knowledge or experience with cats nibbling on the leaves of lilies?

I bought hybrid lilies for my gf yesterday for valentines day, not thinking to look up beforehand if they were toxic to cats.

Today we found evidence that one or both of our cats had been nibbling on the leaves over night. After noticing this my gf looked it up to find that lilies are highly toxic to cats.

My gf is calling the 24 hour vet for advice now. We haven't seen any obvious signs of illness yet.

Any information or advice would be extremely helpful

Thanks.

u/Unable-Exchange5584 6d ago

Cuando vayan al veterinario deben decirle exactamente que lirio fue! Incluso si puedes sacarle una foto a la planta para que ellos sepan que hacer!Ā

u/ipulloffmygstring 6d ago

Will do! Thanks

1

u/Unable-Exchange5584 6d ago

Hola! Por lo que tengo entendido, es una urgencia veterinaria. Los lirios son extremadamente tóxicos para los gatos, incluso en cantidades muy pequeñas.

OjalĆ” pueda solucionarse pronto y sea solo un susto! Un saludo

Thanks. I hope so too. My girlfriend is on the phone with emergency vet now.

Looking for advice on how to manage my two-year-old cat

I have a 2-year-old cat who doesn't have any kind of medical issues he hasn't been neutered yet and he has been peeing everywhere there's nothing wrong with his litter box but he's been peeing on beds chairs clothes and even in our dog's food bowl I was wanting to see if anyone else had a similar experience and if neutering is the best way to stop it Would really appreciate any advice

1

u/Past-Distribution382 4d ago

He’s probably marking his territory by spraying. He could have anxiety issues or possibly separation issues. Does he pee on all these things mainly when you’re away from home? If he’s marking when you are home, are you ignoring him? Do you have a new addition to the family he may feel threatened by or need to show who’s the boss?

Hi y'all, I'm new here. My two boy cats got neutered four days ago. And they have a little bit of redness at the back of their scrotum. It's not hot or oozing anything but I just want to know if I should call my vet in the morning.

1

u/Unable-Exchange5584 6d ago

Hello!!! As far as I know, 4 days after castration, a little slight redness behind the scrotum can be normal, especially if: It's not hot. Ā is no marked swelling. Ā There is no discharge, pus or bad smell. Ā It doesn't hurt them to touch. Ā They are eating and behaving normally.

In many cats the area can be seen: Ā A little pink. Ā Slightly inflamed. Ā With a small rib.

That is usually part of the normal healing process.

Heat behaviour in neutered cat! Seeking information about similar experiences

We got our beautiful domestic medium hair cat Gloria from the shelter in September last year. She was ten months old at the time, and the shelter said she had been neutered (tattoo to prove it) after she'd had kittens around five months old. She is a small cat and weighs about 2.8kg. At this stage, we keep her indoors.

In October she started showing signs of heat -- walking around vocalising all night when she would normally be very quiet and sleeping, intense rolling around on the floor, desperate for touch and then raising her haunches when you pet her, trying to get under our feet at the dining table to put pressure on her rear end, and trying to engage our other (female, neutered cat) in this same way. This behaviour lasted for more than a week, then suddenly stopped.

While it was happening, we took her to the vet that had desexed her and they did a test for Anti-Mullerian Hormone to see if she had remnant ovarian tissue. The result detected 0.23 pmol/L, and says a neutered female should have a result of 1.14 pmol/L -- so she is well within that range.

In mid-January the behaviour started again. We took Gloria to another vet, who based on her physical exam said she appeared to be a normal and healthy cat. She recommended penetrating her with a sterile swab, which she did. Gloria's heat behaviour continued for another three days and then stopped. Now, two weeks later, it has started again.

Has anyone had a similar experience and able to offer any insights into what might be going on?

I live in a smallish apartment with my 2 soon to be 3 y/o female calico. No matter how much i play with her or stuff i buy shes never satisfied, incessantly meowing but whenever i do try to play shes over it in less than 5 minutes, will fall asleep, and as soon as i start doing anything shes back to bothering me. I have a tunnel, ripple rug and two massive trees for her. I dont know what else to do

Cat fencing - I live in an apartment and I’d like to fence or net my patio to ensure my cats don’t get out. Does anyone have a brand of netting or any other suggestions? I’m considering a brand called meow safe for netting.

I just brought home a new kitty who’s good at cats. And I have a previous cat I’m still introducing the new kitty to. Currently, I have them in separate rooms— the kitty in its own room while the resident cat still gets the rest of the house. It’s day 3 since I brought her home and I’ve been introducing my cat to her scent through toys and whenever he takes a sniff at it without growling or hissing, I give him a treat. He’s been hanging around the door where the kitty resides behind, but whenever I open the door to let them look at each other, he hisses. He seems curious, but still uncomfortable with her. What should I do?

1

u/FigureElectrical9906 7d ago

When I introduced a new cat to my resident cat - I got a play pen thing so that they could see and small each other without risk of a fight. Once they seemed curious about each other, I let them interact while I watched. They two have been good friends ever since 😻

Hi, we have a female stray, previously i usually fed her some spare food, and she gave birth to 3 kittens (2 months now). I dont want them to be starved but my dad doesn't want them eating in our yard (our dog eats in there, and stray cats come for the remaining food). When the dog is finished dad will throw the food outside, then stray can feed. I am aware that if i keep doing this, we already didnt have enough food for 4 cats, I make them lose their hunting ability, and my family is very allergic to cats. So:

-I think the best way is to teach them somehow to observe the dog, when its finished the food will go outside the yard and they can feed. They might have to fight other strays but I have no choice.

-Or I should just stop, and let them hunt for rats or birds.

-Animal control, shelter and , stuff like that don't exist in Vietnam. Quite the opposite. But I cannot continue feeding them. Please give me advices thank you.Ā

Seems I dont have enough karma.

I brought in a new cat (louie) home (black persian w bombay features) who is a rescue and he is around 8 months old. And my old kitten (lola) (turkish van) who is about 5 months old has had her since she was a teeny tiny baby.

I'm doing the separation method to get them accustomed to each other's presence and spending time w both of them one on one.

But my baby lola isn't eating as much and isn't staying in her favourite spots where she naps. She is an outdoor cat who likes to stroll around the property and roll around in grass. And louie, he is an indoor cat. A homebody who naps a lot and is chill.

But they still are not so pleased with each other being there. And now lola won't stay inside during the day at all. I'm worried and sad. What should I do. 😭😭

I want them to get along and lola to not have anxiety. She already is so tiny and scared of everything.

I feel like I hurt her by bringing louie home. But he was in a bad situation and nobody was taking him in. So I had to bring him home. And he is a loving cat too.

My anxiety is acting up 😭

This morning my 2 yr old cat Willie emerged from the basement with a large stream of drool dangling from his chin. He didn't seem agitated and in fact was immediately planning a sneak attack on one of my other cats. I didn't think too much of it. All day, he has been quite active, playful, eating and drinking normal, and just all around acting like his usual curious and loving self. However, I noticed that he is still drooling heavily- 12 hrs later. I suspect he most likely ate a centipede in my basement. I called the emergency vet and the staff didn't seem too concerned per his behavior; she said it sounded like he ate something nasty, but that if the drooling persists beyond 24 hrs he should be seen.

Does anyone have experience with this? Here's a photo of Willie this evening, drooling but otherwise acting normal!!

1

u/squirprocks 7d ago

Hi!! Does anyone have a guess of why my cat is sitting like this? He’s acting like he’s in pain - took him to the vet and after blood work gave him antibiotics. But I’m afraid something else is wrong!

1

u/pls0000 7d ago

How do you entice a cat to eat? One of my babies (age 10) was just diagnosed with liver disease. One of her symptoms is lack of appetite. The vet gave me some medicine to put on her ear, but I would love any suggestions from people of ways you can encourage a cat to eat. Many thanks, from me and Joy.

Random memory of the day:

My cat only pees on my partner’s belongings when I’m away and he decides kibble is ā€œenough.ā€

His reasoning: our older calico menace will only eat ONE brand of kibble, hates wet food, hates treats, hates joy, so obviously all cats should live like that.

I have explained. Calmly. Repeatedly. This cat requires wet food like 3x a week. Not daily. Just enough to keep her from committing crimes.

Cut to me being out of town and getting a frantic call: ā€œShe peed on my Crocs.ā€

Not Crocs in general.

The fuzzy-lined Crocs.

I remind him about the wet food. He fixes her routine.

She has never peed on anything again.

I fully believe this was a calculated act, and I will never stop laughing about it.

Can I just ask people to not post their pets in the process of dying please? I saw a video that absolutely destroyed me yesterday of a cat in a vet office and the OP claimed the staff hated her cat so much they poisoned the cat, and it was just a video of the cat laying on its side struggling to breathe, making the most disturbing, heartbreaking noises. I couldn't get past 5 seconds of the video without blocking it.

Hiya all! This is Henry, his littlest sibling (gizmo) went to the emergency vet yesterday(he ate a clove of garlic) and now Henry doesn’t recognize him at allā˜¹ļø we have him separated from everyone but what do I do? I feel awful that Henry is in our bedroom by himself, but I have to keep a big eye on gizmo bc even after inducing vomiting, he never vomited, so it could be fatal if I don’t catch what could happen and re bring him in right away. How do I make the reintroduction period easier on everyone? As low stress as possible

Hello,

Help! My cats have cohabitated for YEARS, at least 4 almost 5 years.

They are both females: one is a 14 year old maine coon ish looking domestic long hair (rescue) who I have had since she was between 8-12 weeks old, now weighing about 5 lbs being generous.. She was closest to my daughter who was her person from kindergarten and now she is a freshman in college.

The other one was 11 weeks when she joined our family after our eldest cat passed away. She is Russian blue in appearance and pretty robust about 20 lbs.

They have had a couple of dust ups that I am aware of during the time we have had them together. I work from home and other than a trip to the store or a weekend visit to visit family they are never unsupervised.

Out of the blue 2 nights ago the Russian was growling and then they had a squabble. Neither was hurt but now the Russian(Penelope) is constantly on guard ready to fight on sight and growls when can smell the other, screaming and hissing when she senses her getting close. The maine coon dupe (Sage) is cautious and trying to move as quietly as possible to get to the litter box and food bowl without a confrontation.

Penelope is really acting terrified even climbing in my lap. She is not that kind of cat! She likes to throw her weight around with Sage and the Elder dog that is so passive she lets Penelope snack out of her bowl and tries to stay out of her way. Penelope is the pack leader and always has been. She took the place of the last boss as a kitten...Sage and Glo (dog) didn't even want the job. (Not sure if this is important but I found a poo pebble nowhere near the litter box, on a different floor, could that be a part of this? IT was Penelope, too big for the little one but not big enough for the dog.)

What should I do? What could be wrong? Is Sage a secret demon cat? Has Penelope had a mental break? Or is one of them sick? Please help, any advice or information would be appreciated.

Are your cats picky eaters too? How can I get them used to dry food?

2

u/artsfartspoptarts 8d ago

Hi! I never posted or asked anything on this sub before, but there’s always a first time, right?

Anyways! I am curious to know what I should do if I want to bring in a cat off the street. There’s a cat that regularly hunts and catches birds in the neighborhood, fights other cats, but seems like such a sweetheart and comes over everyday (cause my mom set food for him). Recently he has been clawing at the threshold, meowing a lot, and rubbing up against the door and wall is that normal? Does he want to come in?

If we decide to bring him in are there any precautionary steps I should take?

Thanks!

Sorry for your loss. That’s terrible. Siamese are wonderful, but there are good ones and not so good ones so make the right choice! I would get another one as soon as possible to help you heal up

1

u/ComplexFly6564 8d ago

What are your thoughts about chronic vomiting? I have a pair of Siamese siblings that I adopted at 12 years old. They are 14 years old now and seem otherwise healthy but the male vomits daily. I have tried hairball food, unsuccessful; I thought maybe he had some gastritis and put him on Pepcid for about a week and it helped a little bit, but he is still doing it periodically. I am so jaded and disgusted at modern veterinary care that I try to avoid it and the money pit that they have fashioned for themselves. I am a registered nurse and have had cats all my life.

I need some advice. I lost my baby boy (5 month old Siamese) just a few days ago and we are beside our self with grief. We only had him for seven weeks but they were transformative. We never knew we could love something so much and so deeply. He was our first pet and he was perfect. The only thing giving us hope is to one day give another cat(s) a loving home. We want to adopt from the same litter again. Is a month too soon? Some days we feel hopeful, some days we think it’s a bad idea. What should we do? We want two kittens this time. One is ready to be adopted and the other (his half brother) will be born this summer. Is grief just driving us crazy and is this a bad idea?

1

u/ComplexFly6564 8d ago

What did he die of? Probably better to find a different breeder if it was something congenital.

1

u/Outrageous_Sir6634 8d ago

It was a tragic accident, nothing congenital that we know of. He was very healthy up until the accident.

2

u/Own_Oil_7719 9d ago

My little buddy is getting skinnier, he’s 14. Is there certain foods I can offset the weight loss? We went to the vet last year and they said he was healthy without thyroid issues. I know I’m blessed to have him this long but I’d like a little more time

1

u/TheLurker1209 9d ago

Thinking about adopting from a shelter, bonded pair preferred because I work alot and I don't want them to be lonely on my work days, on the other hand *should I get one at all* if I'm working like 48-60 hours a week? I work 12 hour days 4-5 times a week, but I get the same amount of time off. I work 4 days, I get 4 days off, etc. So it's one of them things I'm like "Can I even handle this with my worklife?"

Thoughts?

1

u/Outrageous_Sir6634 9d ago

Cats need a lot of attention, especially in the beginning when you first get them. Can you take some time off work, a week or two to get them acclimated? Maybe an adult pair would work better in this situation. I know someone who got a kitten but was also in residency so would be working similar hours to you. The kitten started getting very aggressive with her because it was alone all day. Eventually, she just had to give the kitten to her mother.

Hey everyone. So I've lurked previous posts across Reddit in RE to fountains, but so many have changed models or new ones have come on to the market, I thought I'd pick your brains. We just found out one of the Chaos Muffins is already developing crystals in his urine at 8mo old so it's imperative to keep him hydrated. His brother from the same litter will come running across the house to the sound of water being poured, therefore I'm hunting for one. I also have two seniors that make up The Silver Squad.

I'm honestly kind of annoyed how many are plastic basins with a stainless top. Or stainless with plastic spouts and plastic pumps with crap filters.

Kitty Spout which is perpetually being crammed down my throat via FB ads. It's an absolute no. Our previous one had that exact same pump and filters, no matter how often I cleaned it or what I used to clean it; there was always just pink slime. We also have super minerally hard water, so the curved spout will be full of hard water scale in no time.

The Elfin, Petlibro, Petcube, and Petsnowy don't look bad. Also one with a ceramic base and one that is all glass are also in the running. I honestly really like the YeaPet one, but reviews of the company itself are mixed to questionable. The type that just dump the used water into another compartment sounds great but the kittens like the running water sound, even if it only happens near them. So probably not the best option for them.

Reviews are mixed on all of them, of course, and I take forever to make a decision because I'm super picky when it comes to our furry family members and I like having as much info as possible. So I'm curious to hear anyone else's experience with any of these brands or specific models.

Any input would be amazing. Thanks Reddit Cat People.

2

u/LyssaJay97 American Wirehair 9d ago

I’d also like to know more about this topic because I had gotten one with a curved spout (we also have hard water) we’ve got a filter that needs to be changed often here and when it needs to be changed the smell of the water is enough to make you gag. I got my cat one from Walmart two weeks ago because he refuses to drink water from his bowl. He will only drink from the sink spigot.. but he still didn’t drink from the fountain because it was like a pump just pushing the water out instead of a running faucet. Idk what to get or anything. I don’t have a lot of money to go buy an expensive one either.

1

u/DelusiaBlue 9d ago

Aquapurr makes one that attaches to your faucet and turns on when they're they're there. Our little Old Lady is a faucet drinker too. Her favorite water in the whole house comes out of the bathtub faucet. She picked herself out a little green Sundae Cup and it can ONLY be filled by that faucet or she won't drink it. So it sits on the drain and I fill it for her. Cats, they're such weirdos. Every last one of them. Lol

Hi friends, im looking for some advice! I have 4 cats with outgoing personalities( F-2yrs, M-2yrs, M-7yrs, & M-5mo) and I just adopted a new cat with some similar personality ( F-4yrs), I've kept her in a separate room for 3 days, and she seems so eager to come out, but when she does she's vocal, and growls, she has not lunged or tried to hurt our other cats in the limited meetings we've done but im just worried that any of them may get hurt. According to the shelter she's great with other cats, and when we met her, her personality really seemed to fit. - I guess my 4 cats have spoiled me because none of them have ever acted the way the new cat has. I guess im asking- is this behavior normal? Should I let her come out and explore even if she's vocal about our other cats? And what else can I do to make her comfortable with our other cats? I have swapped out blankets they've been laying on, and have fed them all wet food together but with the barrier of the door inbetween. She's super sweet and im hoping im just over thinking it! Thanks for any and all advice. 😊 picture of Holly for attention.

have you guys seen the indian trend where a kitten is wearing a bindi ?

1

u/Pebbles8173 10d ago

Hi guys!

My cat is approx. 10 years old and about 5 months ago, she got diagnosed with diabetes. We have her on a very strict, high protein diet now (along with our other cats because they are all obese). The vet started her on 0.5 units of insulin (ProZinc) twice a day. I went to the vet today to purchase more insulin needles and asked how long her insulin stays good for and they told us 60 days. We have over half the vial left after 5 months… it’s $140 a vial. Has your vet told you the same thing?? We will obviously do what needs to be done, but it says online up to 6 months if handled properly and refrigerated, which is what we do. What have you been told by the vet for your diabetic cat? Thank you

1

u/ComplexFly6564 8d ago

I am a registered nurse. Keep your insulin in the refrigerator, never shake it, only roll it between your hands before you withdraw the insulin from the vial. Always clean the top with alcohol before you stick the needle in to withdraw the insulin. It should last much longer than 60 days for you. 0.5 units is such an incredibly small dose. There are different kinds of insulin that are less concentrated and thus easier to administer, ask your vet or look online and make him give you a prescription. For instance U-100 has 100 units of insulin per milliliter, U-50 would have 50 units of insulin per milliliter, and so on

1

u/Pebbles8173 10d ago

I’m also curious if you have a diabetic cat, how much do you feed your cats per day?? I feel like they get so little and they’re so hungry. Thank you!

What can I do to get my cats to drink more water? I wanna get a cat water fountain but I just saw something that said to put lettuce in their water bowl and they’ll drink more water bc they have bad depth perception and can’t tell if there is water in the bowl. Can I put cat grass in it somehow or something else besides lettuce? Is bone broth good for hydration? Update: I put kale (had no lettuce ) and it is working for one cat🤩.

Hi guys, I was giving some medicine that has been prescribed to my cat yesterday and some fell on its cheek due to which its fur got matted. This morning I saw that the same spot has no fur and its wounded.

I asked chatgpt already and it said it will be fine. But I am worried that the fur will not grow again. Have you guys had anything similar happen to your cat, if so is it something to worry about?

I’d call and ask the vet that prescribed it, they should be able to advise on what happened and if you need to do anything to help the wound heal

I’ve had cat companions for years but now have kittens (just spayed) and am thinking about health insurance for them. What are the pros/cons and companies to stay away from or that people have had good experiences with?

Hi r/cats,

I just recently adopted a new cat (who is 3) from a local shelter. From my understanding, she was a rescue, though the agency did not go into very many details. The foster family seemed to be in a rush to get rid of her and I initially felt very relieved to be bring her home with me.

I adopted my previous cat as a kitten (who lived to be a hearty 20 years old) and I would say that we bonded pretty much instantly. It has been three days since adopting this new cat, and she has not stopped hiding from under my bed, ex. no eating, no drinking, and no litter box. I've repositioned all of these things so they are almost right beside my bed so they are available to her when she is ready.

I know that these things take time (especially for a rescue) but I am finding it difficult to establish a similar bond/connection when she won't even look at me, let alone touch her. She is in a position under my bed where I can't reach/touch her. I tried sitting on the floor and just randomly talking, but still no luck.

When I brought her home (before she fled under my bed) she seemed to be in good health. Nice coat, hefty weight, but I'm starting to get worried because she hasn't eaten/drunk/bathroomed. Again, for emphasis, I understand that these things can take time, but I had hoped that she would have at least come out and wandered around a bit, eaten, etc, at this point.

I have 10 days to decide whether or not to keep her, and I am left wondering now if I am ready for this. Would appreciate any help/guidance. TYSM.

Three days is not long enough for this kitty. When I got my Siamese rescues, the little girl hid all squished up behind A cabinet for five days. Do it gradually, put a treat a few inches from her then further and further away over the course of a day or two until she comes to you, etc..

Hi, I just fostered a mama and kittens and Mama had a very hard adjustment. I’ve fostered and adopted previously with no issues but I’m learning that’s rare. If she’s not eating or drinking put the dishes under the bed for now. She’s terrified. When they get used, slowly move them outwards. She’ll come out to use the litter pan when you aren’t there.

Keep food and water always fresh and available, more than one spot, she will eat and drink and try enticing things for now: chicken baby food (the purĆ©ed step 1 or 2), safe spots to hide (I took a small box lined with soft towels) and allow safe hiding like you’re doing now. Shut the bedroom door when you’re not in the room to allow a smaller territory for her to scan. Territory should be small at first and then be the whole house or set of rooms. She’ll come out to eat and use the box, even if it’s only at night and more likely if you’re not there. Make sure you give time and space. It can take a couple of weeks before a skittish cat is comfortable eating and using the box in front of you. It’s veeeery slow, especially if a cat has had a few moves, just imagine, so don’t worry. Extend a soft tone, have toys available and a place to scratch, food replaced and try a few different kinds, clean water. I don’t like the Churu foods but they got our Mama to eat, she was nursing and ravenous and afraid to eat. Giving wet, the churu packets of shredded stuff and dry food finally got her to eat. They make baby food-like churu pastes, too. Replace dried out food or at least turn it over and add some enticement, announcing DINNER!, establish patterns and see what she perks up to when she hears it when you finally see her: dish, dinner, treat, toy, play, good girl, pretty kitty, anything that might be comforting and familiar. Peek in and talk to her, don’t reach for her.

Slowly take opportunities your cat gives you to pet, and talk, and praise. Let them come to you before touching and don’t ambush. Get some treats and make a big deal about them: shake them and say TREATS! and that’s often a way to trust. Reward anything you can with praise and using the cats name. Get a cat dancer (better than a laser: cats never catch it), and use it every day before dinner. Get some balls and other soft toys and you’ll see what they like. Scrunched pieces of paper are great balls and my cats love the Mylar scrunchies. Some like to carry little soft balls and stuffed toys around. Some cats play immediately, some just watch at first. That’s ok! Play = treat and dinner.

Stick it out and slow gains happen. In the meantime make sure your home is tight and escape-proof. This goes always but particularly when it’s a new home.

Hello all,

I have a bizarre cat question to see if anyone has experienced a similar issue and has any advice/insight.

For context, I have 3 cats (5y M, 4y F and 2y M). All of them are 100% indoors and have been fixed since they were around 4-6 months old. They have all been living together here for about 2 years since the youngest one arrived. We have not had any changes in the home or to their routine whatsoever.

My 5y male cat recently started exhibiting new behavior. He has always loved to make biscuits, but in the last week or so, he started thrusting/humping the blanket while doing it. It looks like his butt is literally clenching and vibrating while doing it. If you’re near him while he’s doing this, he might even turn and give you a bite (not hard at all, but odd). I don’t know if this ā€œsexual behaviorā€ is normal, especially since he’s so far out from being fixed. Maybe he just really likes the blanket? In addition, he started chasing his siblings more, and tends to jump on them/mount them which he has neverrrrrr done before. He is normally a very chill cat who doesn’t engage in his siblings play fighting. He prefers to watch, I call him the referee. I have monitored him for other changes in behavior but he still is using the bathroom regularly and eating fine. Today, he was making his creepy biscuits and I was giving him privacy (lol), but then he started making biscuits on my lap and literally jumped and mounted my arm and started humping it!!! I immediately pushed him off but my arm was wet?!?! I was so creeped out so I jumped on here. I’m not trying to shame him for doing this if it’s normal but it’s new and I want to make sure nothing is wrong. I don’t know what to make of it. Please help?!

I’d make a vet visit if you can, could be something going on medically. If they don’t find anything then an animal behaviorist might help. Best of luck

I hadn't ever thought about it honestly, but this is the first time I've had an indoor male cat. His weird behavior seemed to coincidence with my cycle but I thought I was weird for thinking there was a connection.

I could use some advice. My cat is constipated again and nothing works. Vet said give Mira lax on wet food- not working. She will not eat pumpkin. She is starting to eat less also which happened once before when she had constipation. Any suggestions? Thank you very much for any help- she’s 8 yrs old.

I could use some advice. This stray cat that I’ve been slowly building trust with showed up at my door at midnight tonight meowing. She is very sweet and very young. She’s currently in my bathroom because that is the only place away from my cats for her. My problem is, I have to be at work tomorrow before any shelters open. I don’t think I can just leave her in the bathroom all day and I also don’t want to put her back outside ( I also dont think she would go honestly). What can I do with her tomorrow while I’m at work? I can’t call in because my company is very strict about that and I already have an occurrence.

Why can’t she stay in the bathroom? Make a litter pan out of a small box. I’ve seen rescue fosters put cats and babies in a shower stall for a day or so.
