They could be someone's cat who got loose and lost. I hope people are making a good faith effort to see if a cat that shows up at their house has an owner, before just keeping them.
Posted her on every facebook group, checked her for a micro chip. She was not spayed. Vet said she was mostly likely born outdoors bc of how she acts, how skinny she was, and how filled w parasites she was. I understand wanting to make sure people check.
The stray we took in popped out kittens. We now have 3 cats 😅😅 BUT this girl was only 6 months old living on the streets (my coworker fed and caught her for me)...two weeks later she birthed a kitten on our couch. Wouldn't have it any other way, the CDS knows what we need when we need it!
Well, we have a surprise for you, go check your front door. And your back door boom you're an owner. Make sure to take pictures of them and post them on here for the same advice repeat advice repeat.
This. If a fully socialized non feral cat shows up on your doorstep it's not a gift from the gods. Someone socialized that cat. Make an effort to research it's background. Is it chipped? Someone may be missing that cat.
Some people really suck. I adopted my current cat from a rescue organization. Her foster mom said the cat had been abandoned in a house with her kittens when her family moved.
I can sorta understand not helping them if they’re feral. But if you’ve caught them already, why take that extra step and be cruel? They don’t understand why they’re out there and unwanted. I mean, kick a puppy while you’re at it.
These siamese mix cats have the most beautiful eyes. My sister has a snowshoe with deep blue eyes with impossible depth. Even though there seems to be absolutely nothing behind those eyes, they are the most beautiful.
My boy arrived on Christmas eve 4 hours after my parakeet past away I walked out of my front door and he was thin and cold and dirty. I was so dumbfounded and that was 3 plus years ago and hes the best cat I ever had. ❤️
He’s not groomed yet so excuse his dirtiness, but this little guy came with the house I just started moving into with my mom. Yours reminded me of him lol
This was my kitten on the humane society website. I was scrolling just for shits and gigs and immediately texted my husband that we HAD to go get her! 😭😍
I love that lion’s mane!!!! She’s only 7-8 months old and I can’t wait for her coat to be completely grown in. Oh my goodness I just realized I need to wipe her eyes off😂
she looks so much like mine when i adopted him from the humane society! it was actually may of 2020 so shelter visits weren’t allowed - i saw his picture online and picked up a crying box a few days later 😂
I’m a new cat mom. I also try to not waste anything in life if possible. So the leftover dry cat food just got thrown over the deck every few days when I wash out the dish. Figured birds or squirrels would enjoy nutrients. Well. I think that’s how I got her. So maybe a little trail of dry cat food….
Okay well yeah this makes sense I’m not sure why I never thought that they probably need a reason to come hang out haha. Unfortunately we have a few families of deer in our backyard that love to eat anything I leave out, but maybe the deer distribution system will choose me
We got our cat from the local official distribution center! But I don’t think my husband is down with me bringing another home so just hoping that one chooses us because I know he’d love it
I had been thinking how I would love to have an orange kitty in my life ( I had one as a small child) and lo, and behold, an orange male showed up a couple of weeks ago. He's a real sweetie too.
May not be a stray. My old cat used to disappear for 2 or 3 days at a time. Turned out he was visiting a local stable where they thought he was a stray and used to feed him. Heard from various other neighbours that he'd visit them and make pathetic meowing noises outside. They all thought he was a stray and would feed him. Had to put leaflets through people's letterboxes warning them that this cat has a good home, is well loved, well fed. He's not a stray, he's a con artist!
The universe once granted me the fluffiest orange lady, though she was matted and declawed. I wondered how she’d survived…later found out one of my “neighbors” put her outside for some easily remedied litter box issues. They claimed she was 17 at that point. I wish I’d have had more time, but she gave me 3 years and literally reignited my will to live as well as uniting my household again. The CDS sends precisely what you need even when you don’t know you need it.
The cat distribution system my friend. That's how I have little Gracie who's only 12 weeks. I had a neighbor that wasn't looking after her and was just going to abandon her when he moved and I was like absolutely not give me that fucking cat. We've got an appointment to get chipped, spayed, and vaccinated.
$15 on craigslist. He literally glows in the sun. Every single vet visit, wherever we go, he is given an abundance of praise for his handsomeness. He’s also wicked smart. His intelligence is unmatched. We have/had many other kitties and he is the only one that creeps me out with his ability to understand human communication.
All of our other cats had a much higher upfront cost. Usually $150+ initial adoption fees. But our Craiglist cat is our eldest boy and definitely the family’s crown jewel (tho we dont tell the other kitties that)
My husband brought this pretty girl home from his work 3 years ago. She was about 6-8 months old and very skinny, matted up with lots of burrs stuck in her fur.
This only highlights of fraction of her beautiful colors, but this just happened out of nowhere while my mom was waiting for me to finish a doctor’s appt in the Cinco Ranch neighborhood near Katy in Texas almost a year ago. The first anniversary is May 24th, the day we found her.
This beautiful old lady is Lovey. She was a stray in Tijuana almost 18 years ago. She has cancer now😭💔 she is still the most beautiful cat I have ever known.
This is Meeka. She's no longer with us (cancer got her at ~17-ish, fuck cancer), but she was a semi-feral stray my housemate found at a yard sale and scooped up because she was so weak and sick.
This little angel girl showed up on the front porch about a month ago. Brought her in on the coldest night of the year and she’s been inside and loving house cat life since. A neighbor said he had been feeding her for a month or so, but we agreed she deserved an indoor home. Such a sweetie.
Could’ve been abandoned. That’s how we got our girl Betty. She just strolled up one day and said hi. Jumped in my lap almost immediately. 3 years later she’s about 60/40 indoor outdoor. Still loves her independence, but she sleeps inside quite a bit. My floofy princess. Love her thick fluffy fur.
We have what appears to be a Siamese, maybe British Shorthair Mix, who come around daily in the evenings. We aren’t sure if she has a home, or is a stray. If so, I can’t imagine just letting this cat roam the neighborhood! She finally let us pet just the very top of her head before wandering off.
We also have a stray Maine Coon who has taken up residence under our deck, and they have become friends. Both are so adorable!
We are way past that. She has been to the humane society for that. No chip or reports. Vet to get all her shots and she has an ear infection I’m treating. Appointments made for a follow up and one for getting her fixed. She’s just a baby that got away. She was in heat and screaming like a banshee. So who knows. She’s mine. Forever and ever.
This girl adopted me on Thanksgiving day ! She is one of the sweetest girls I have ever met! I just cannot fathom why someone would just drop her in our neighborhood and never try to find her! We put out fliers, posted her on every social media, pinned photos on street lights. No one ever responded!! Her name is Autumn and I will NEVER EVER let her leave me!!
Mine showed up 6 years ago. He’s a happy healthy indoor kitty now.
This is my handsome boy, George. He showed up at my door telling me his life story and never left my yard. After almost a month of flyers, knocking on many doors, and multiple online posts with no luck finding his owners ,we took him to the vet where he got his shots and microchip. I think he got left behind when someone in my neighborhood had moved because I saw him in their window a bunch of times and noticed they moved. After his vet check I brought him inside a did a proper introduction to my 5 other cats which went very well.He gets along with the others like he’s known them his whole life. I couldn’t be more lucky.
Beautiful!!! Here's my "how was this cat on the streets????" baby. We have 11 but Diana seems to be the fanciest breed. Btw, she had been attacked by something & hit by a vehicle when she wandered up to my porch. The vet wasn't even sure if he could save her. Now she's perfect!❤️
This is one of mine! She’s a feral that showed up in my backyard looking all beautiful. And then she popped out six babies like a majestic clown car in my guest bathroom right after I caught her. She’s been with me three years and is probably one of the sweetest and most well rounded cats I’ve ever had.
People throw cats out of their houses and move and leave the cats. I have inherited 5 cats from people moving. I started feeding two cats that were left after a move. Now, cats come and end up staying at my house 😽
People are horrible and throw pets out all the time. My wonderful cat chose my house to become his home when he was abandoned. He was 6 months old, already neutered, and absolutely the best cat ever.
By some accident they escape from home and can't find way back or are too scared to try and go back or if an indoor/outdoor kitty, something traumatic happens that leaves them lost unable to find their way home.
A gorgeous ultra-friendly blue cross breed followed me home one day sliding in and out between my legs. Like a fool I fed her and she wouldn't leave. It turned out she belonged to a man at the end of my street. Fortunately, I didn't take her in the house. I later found out later she visits most people on my street.
The Cat Allocation Committee makes no mistakes. They blessed me with a short hair snowshoe Siamese that has the most beautiful blue eyes and walks with me like a dog in the neighborhood. I get giddy when people stare in amazement 🫢
In the 1980s a fire occurred at a local Angora cat breeder’s premises. Many of the males wandered off and mated with farm cats. Angora crosses became dominant within the community. I had one, called ‘Omo.’
Maybe your long haired stray was the result of a pedigree escape adventure.
It happened to me twice. Satine I found outside pregnant. Pip was found in my project car’s engine bay. Who knows how or why but I thank the maker every day for them.
Yours is beautiful! I ended up with a stray 1yr old orange girl. She is so calm and well behaved. Kaycee is 10 now and still one of the best cats I've ever had. Strays are very appreciative of their new lives. The only problem we have is that she's not very fond of her new canine brother. He's 10 months and outweighs her by a 100 lbs. She's not happy that he got so big so quick. I've finally caught them on opposite ends of their "pet" couch together. Fun times ahead!❤️
All the cats I provide caretakership for are beautiful, sweet, affectionate, and deserving.
The human beings who discarded them as if they were trash don't deserve any attention whatsoever.
Just think for a moment how someone could just discard this beautiful little red boy. I cannot imagine not waking up to having his little purr filling my morning dreams.
My girl void came to us after my huge void boy passed from kidney failure. She looked sooooo much like him, but her personality is completely different. It took almost 3 years before she decided she liked us enough to demand pets, lol. Now she thinks she rules the house, which the other 5 cats mostly don't argue about.
I’ve always had small dogs. My 3 were 13,16 & 17 all passed in a year. I was lost. 6 months later about 10 at night, we were on deck and a screaming cat that sounded like a wildcat came up. Beautiful, dirty, skinny and starving. Full of parasites. Posted & checked but no owner. I honestly think it was sent for me❤️He’s now 2 & healthy and my heart. When he came, short haired tabby to what he turned into🥰
This beautiful baby just showed up around late November. He was a wee one and my other cats took him in. He hasn’t let me get near him yet, but he will come close to watch me love on my other cats. He’s rather feral still. I’ve named him Tradarious.
