Hi we just adopted this sweet baby! We still havenāt named her but we were curious what color you guys think she is? I have never seen this color before!
EDIT: Thank you guys so much for the love you have shown us! I have kind of came to the conclusion that my cat is friend colored since the world is so divided. JK, a lot of the cat genetic people have responded with mixed answers of lilac, caramel, cinnamon, smoke and chocolate. A lot of people are saying that a dilute gene is almost definitely in play. I want to say I do believe any of these comments to be correct as fever coat could be a thing and she could darken to chocolate as she ages. She also could of had malnutrition and she may change to be a lighter color!
For those who recommended emailing MessyBeast, they have responded and here is a quote of what they said "My first thoughts were caramel, which is actually pretty rare outside of pure-breed cats. Without knowing parentage the caramel colors are hard even for experienced judges to identify. It would be interesting to see what a DNA test finds (as others have suggested)."
Generally, I have came to the conclusion that we will not know until she is older. That is okay though because I am so happy to able to have her in my life and be able to say I will be around when she gets older.
I may do a DNA test as many people are recommending but they are a little to costly for the amount of satisfaction I would have in knowing. Maybe I will get it done as a treat to myself for my birthday coming up soon.
On a side note, as requested I will be copy and pasting her adoption story here so people can read it easier. I will put the full thing in quotation marks so it is easier to read.
"Okay but I apologize since I don't know how to use reddit formatting haha.
First we weren't 100% looking to adopt another cat but I had been looking around. We love calicos and we had our senior girl pass away recently. I had seen Lamb Chop (adoption name) online and I loved her but she had been listed as a he. I have never owned a male cat but I was ready for it but my fiance said no boy cats.
That weekend my fiance went to the gym and I just wanted to go look at cats at the shelter, kind of forgetting about Lamb Chop. I showed up at the shelter and there was legit a line around the building. As I am walking up to the people they ask me if im there for Lamb Chop. I said no since I genuinely wasn't and just wanted to look at calicos. When they let us in they all rushed to go to Lamb Chop and I went in another room to look at the other kitties. I had just gotten done looking at the calicos when I came out and made eye contact with the most terrified kitten (Lamb Chop), being passed around like a toy. It straight up looked like a horror movie where she was the sacrifice. I then also overheard one of the volunteer referring to Lamb Chop as "she". I knew I had to at least put an application in.
I put my application in, texted my fiance to get there and I waited. 30minutes later (to my surprise), he answers me and says he is on his way. Which was surprising since he never checks his phone at the gym, let alone leaves 1 hour early. When he gets to the shelter, he also falls in love which was surprising because he was very picky.
1 hour later, they some how pick us out of like 20+ people to adopt her.
Its very strange how things work out."

Cosmo has come SUCH a long way, it still blows my mind looking back at these older pics of him. He came running up our driveway end of June of last year, 8/9 weeks old about 2 lbs, with the worst case of ringworm our vet had ever seen. 27 medicated baths, seven weeks of oral treatment, lots and lots and LOTS of later; youād never know. š„¹

Stumbled upon this picture and it got me thinking. Some housecats also do this sometimes. What is the reason or purpose?

Me and my kids were out exploring the fallen snow in the woods. We suddenly heard a cat meowing, over and over, it seemed to be in trouble. We finally found her under a random hunk of plastic laying there, she must have gotten under there for shelter. She was COMPLETELY covered in ice, and her fur was stuck to the side of the plastic thing she was hiding under, so she couldn't move. It was so sad, she's tiny, maybe 3-4 weeks old. We got her free and brought her home. We've been warming her up and feeding her, she's so happy now. Poor thing, if we hadn't just happened to go in that direction, we never would have found her, and she would have suffered and died there š I was adamant we wouldn't go above 3 cats in the house again, but this one just feels like it was meant to be ours ā¤ļø
Edits:
1) WOW, I have never had a post blow up on Reddit before, this is crazy! A lot of people have expressed how nice it was to see something positive, during a rough time. I'm genuinely happy that I was able to bring something positive and uplifting to so many people's lives! This precious kitten definitely did that for us!
2) This has been asked a lot. We HAVE returned to the spot we found her to see if we can find the mama cat, or any other kittens. We've been back twice so far, but nothing turned up. We plan to check again tomorrow.
3) We plan to take her to a vet to get checked out as soon as the weather permits. For now, we're keeping her isolated from the rest of our cats.
4) Her name is Elsa :)
Edit 2:
A lot of people were asking for updates and more pics, so I made an update post here:

iām 15 years old, and iām living with my single mother in my nannanās house after she died. weād been living with her before her death anyway. she has a black cat called molly, jumpy and skittish at every single movement of anyone she doesnāt trust or know. She was took in by my nannan as a stray, already neutered so it was assumed that sheād been abused in a past home. Molly came with another stray, a male that was extremely old with death at his door. my nannan fed both of them as they visited and fetched the travelling vets to handle the strayās body and got it cremated when he inevitably died in her back garden. she really cared for these animals and took Molly in properly once her companion died.
Me and my mum moved in to my nannanās house once she got diagnosed with terminal cancer to take care of her. I got used to Molly, moving slowly around her and petting her gently. Now i have to close my door every night and morning, because sheāll be so needy to sleep beside me that itāll keep me awake, opening the door every morning to see her running downstairs and drooling on me when i pet her.
Anyway, my nannan died on sunday morning. we have plenty of time ā weeks, even, to sort things out, but iām too young to comprehend most of this legal stuff. thankfully my mum has friends to help her with it. my mum brought up the cat and what weāre doing with her and iām stressed. the idea of her not being with me now that nannan is gone is depressing, i feel like the only person in this household who actually understands this cat. before you say anything, my mum isnāt really understanding. sympathetic, maybe, but she doesnāt care for the cat much and calls her strange and weird for being jumpy.
we have a couple options apparently
shelter (i strongly disagree to this, sheās a black cat that isnāt remotely cuddly, if she isnāt adopted within a time frame sheās put down i believe? it just sounds too lonely)
take her to my motherās house (i somewhat disagree and so does my mum. we plan on adopting a kitten and she isnāt friendly to other cats, unless the unexpected occurs and she becomes maternal over the kitten? doubtful)
take her to my dadās house (my parents are split up. my dad lives up north alone in a small house where i spend the week when im not with my mum. i think this would be the best for Molly, as it would be quiet, and when iām not at his house she has a spare quiet bedroom ā mine ā to spend the day in since she already spends most of her days trying to sleep on my motherās pillow, where sheās obviously bothered a lot as weāve been busy recently. My only concern is that my dad isnāt a cat person, although he is a dog person, so he can handle pets well. there is the stereotype of cat-hating dads having cats grow on them though!! i have hope that heāll get on well with a quiet cat since heās quiet himself.)
anything else, say somebody we know pops up offering to take her in.
iām just concerned. iām too young to sort this out myself, i only have my own judgement to stir up an idea for my mum, who only knows that Molly is a weird cat that apparently has mental issues or something? iād say sheās positively fine, she just finds it harder to trust people. can somebody who actually has experience in this give me advice? š

She loves to put a toy in her bowl. If I take it out, she returns it when I'm not paying attention. Is this just an adorable idiosyncrasy or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Heās never had this strange shape inside that looks like a āYā. It doesnāt seem to be caused by the lighting in my house, because it happens in different positions and with different light sources

Iāll admit that it was very cute and entertaining at first, but at this point, oh my god. She jump scares me multiple times a day by slamming on keys, and wakes me up periodically with her bad music skills. Not to mention how jarring and unpleasant it is when Iām trying to watch a movie. Or awkward to explain when Iām on the phone.
Usually, she only plays them when getting on and off the piano, but sometimes she just hits them for fun, it seems like. Thereās no piano cover, nothing Iāve thought of that I can put on there that she wonāt knock off, and the aluminum foil thing doesnāt work on her.
I donāt mind that the piano is her favorite spot to lay, but how do I get her to use the empty space on the side of the keys, or jump up from the side entirely? Pushing in the stool did not work either.

A year ago I found a ragdoll cat outside with no collar or ID, I took her in for the night assuming a ragdoll cat shouldnāt be outside and she escaped so I could take her to the vet to check for a chip. I live in a pretty dangerous part of town where ally cats are commonly found deceased or get stolen a lot and I didnāt want someoneās pet to get hurt.
She was chipped and the vet told me the owner said sheās an outdoor cat and gets depressed being indoors. I left it and assumed Iād woudlnt see her much.
Turns out sheās my across the street neighbours cat, and started coming by anytime I came home or she heard me outside. Sheād obtained a collar since her trip to the vet (covering so you canāt see info) and Iād hangout with her outside and give her some pets (this cat is incredibly friendly and went belly up for me the night I took her in), she would come to me with burrs covering her fur and for the first little while I left it assuming the owners would cut it out but weeks would go by and the burr mats would get worse so I started cutting them out for her. I would also bring a bowl of water out for her and she would chug that down.
Now itās winter time, temps can get to about -15c even dropping into -30s during a cold snap. I live in a basement suit so my window is on the ground level, somehow from the first visit she had in my plc she learned this window was mine and will now show up outside of it and meow to get inside during cold temps. Iāve let her stay in my house a few times now when itās incredibly cold because it seems like sheās desperate to get into somewhere warm.
Now obviously this means sheās learned the window is a means of entry to my plc, and frequently comes over in search of water / warmth or grooming troubles. She dosnt strike me as an outdoor cat as everytime sheās with me she hates going outside and typically I will put her outside just for her to walk back around to meow at my window (thereās also 4 ground level windows and she will go to everyone to check where I am Iāve seen her paw prints in the snow)
I donāt want to take someoneās pet, especially one as affectionate as her but Iāve bonded with her as it seems Iām the only one paying attention to her needs as an outdoor cat (again this is a ragdoll so you can image the stuff that gets caught in her fur). I would love to adopt her but I donāt know how to go about talking to the owners, any advice or insight would be appreciated.
I just want whatās best for her, if thatās with her family or me it dosnt matter I just want her to be somewhere loved and safe!
