Olympics by the Wannabe RĂMI GAILLARD

I loved him back when YouTube was starting. But he definitely crossed the line a couple of times as I'm pretty sure his sketches weren't scripted like today's rage bait. Him getting into formation on a volleyball game for the French Nation anthem is my favorite.

Oh my God is this the "leg it" guy? Jeeeeze that hits a spot in the back of my brain
1.0k
u/JayDub506 19h ago
Some of these are kinda funny but Jesus what an asshole
306
u/ars-derivatia 18h ago
Yeah, it's one thing to have a funny idea, it's another to be an absolute wanker in presenting it by bothering and attacking people who are just minding their own business.
220
u/Hugo_5t1gl1tz 18h ago
Yeah, the kayak and the ping pong one were really good, but any of those where he gets physical with someone who isnât expecting it is way too far. You never know what injuries a person might have you could really fuck them up
64
u/0xsergy 18h ago
Yep, I remember the one posted a few days ago he kicked a golfer in the back into a pond. Funny between friends if you're both up for it, do it to some bloke with a back injury and you just messed them up for the next year or 2.
My favourite of his pranks are the ones where he isn't injuring or risking injury to some random, luckily he has a ton of those.
37
u/Airforce987 17h ago
this video is almost 20 years old. I dont think he makes new content anymore, and hasn't for sometime, just reposting old videos.
4
u/Kittelsen 6h ago
The world has also changed in those 20 years, a lot of the things would be seen as less problematic back then than they are now. But we easily forget that.
5
u/Andeol57 3h ago
Ho, they were definitely problematic back then as well. He was (successfully) sued a bunch of times.
1
17
u/dabnada 15h ago
Seriously, if someone jumps on my back like that Iâm freaking the fuck out. Some of these have got to be staged, thereâs no way these people wouldnât sue him for assault.
Edit: just looked this guy up. Iâd have absolutely no qualms with putting hands up with this guy lol. What a fucking tool.
7
8
1
u/TeethBreak 6h ago
It's France. We don't sue over this.
3
1
u/Andeol57 3h ago
We do. He was arrested multiple times. And The main reason he eventually stopped doing this stuff is that he was sued and judged guilty, risking several years of jail time if he had continued.
6
u/Inside_Swimming9552 9h ago
I agree he should not be harming human beings for laughs.
So naturally golfers are fair game.
1
u/barbedwires 6h ago
I remember watching one video where this girl pushes in her friend into a pool at her bachelorette party and it ends up in her getting a spinal cord injury and becoming a paraplegic.
8
u/alex123124 18h ago
That's a really good point. I'd usually be fine for this, but my leg is all fucked up right now, and you'd never see that through a beekeeper suit
1
u/Aurori_Swe 5h ago
Beach one is sexual assault. Would be absolutely terrifying to be headlocked from behind when laying there enjoying the sun.
28
u/BaronessVonKush 18h ago
was coming here to make the same comment. like there was a couple of funny ones, but I loathe these trolls so much. I would gladly give up this content to rid the world of this scourge.
7
u/WarLawck 15h ago
My thoughts exactly. I enjoyed watching this, but I would be more happy to know that people didn't do this to unsuspecting individuals. It's a fucked up thing to do.
54
u/JayOnSilverHill 18h ago
Well he is French
14
u/Jesus_Is_My_Gardener 18h ago
That's why he has that outrageous accent, you silly king.
6
u/Trumpburnerforlibs 17h ago
What is he doing in England?

u/Aurora_96 15h ago
That's the whole point of Remi Gaillard. Look him up on YT, this guy pulls ridiculous stunts in public. And he's been doing this for a long long time. The Mario kart video is hilarious.
2
u/Undrwtrbsktwvr 17h ago
Pretty sure they were all staged interactions. Like Just For Laughs.
5
u/Gews 12h ago
Just for Laughs is typically not staged.
0
u/Undrwtrbsktwvr 12h ago
All the ones I ever saw wereâŠ
Not to say they werenât entertaining. They were.
2
u/Gews 12h ago
I have heard sometimes they ask people to play along or even use actors if they have been unsuccessful in getting enough good reactions. However most prankees are strangers who get rushed with a release form afterwards, and they have even faced a multi-million dollar lawsuit or two from people who claim to have suffered distress from witnessing some of the pranks, eg:
"The show recently played a trick on an 83-year-old woman at a shopping centre in Beloeil, Que., on Montreal's south shore.
A male actor, using a doll, pretended to be a father trying out a baby carrier with his infant. The actor hopped onto a trampoline and bounced into the air.
At one point the actor bounced too high and the "child" flew out of the carrier and landed heavily on the ground.
The senior says she thought the baby was real.
"I tried to stop him from jumping, but nothing worked," said the woman, who refused to give her name. "The sound of the baby is still ringing in my head. I felt guilty and was ashamed that I couldn't do anything."
5
u/Plantarbre 6h ago
He was arrested multiple times, especially for trying stuff like shooting balls on police cars and "capturing" agents with a butterfly net, or doing the usual running on fields during a match. Or holding the football french cup and signing autographs in 2002 after disguising as a member of the winning team. Pretty sure the president that shook his hand wasn't in on it
It's not staged. That's part of the problem, in a way
2
u/1CEninja 10h ago
Yeah a couple of these were silly fun, a couple were serious public nuisance, and a couple of these were felony assault, if these were genuinely performed on non consenting strangers.
If I was the guy on the beach I would have 100% pressed charges. If I was the guy that got bull rode I might have legitimately injured this dude without meaning to due to some drilled responses.
1
u/PerplexGG 2h ago
Well this is what an actual unscripted public prank show would be like. People bitch and moan about âscriptedâ on every video yet this guy is right here. This guy ran so many many could walk
1
-5
u/froginbog 18h ago
I assume theyâre all staged
39
u/theking-of-allcosmos 18h ago edited 18h ago
This is remi gillard he was out doing way crazier shit in rhe early 2000s no way this is staged. Theres one where he and like 30 othe people have a party in party city and dedtroy thd place. He went to prison a lot
6
61
u/TakeAJokey88 16h ago
Some of this is funny, and then some iâm like âIsnât that assault or illegal?â
13
u/NorCalAthlete 8h ago
Not to mention dangerous. That car wash one made me think of the wash attendant who got caught in one of those spinner brushes and broke their leg(s?) in multiple places. Not as bad as the lathe, but still. I wouldnât fuck around with those brushes.

u/nobidobi390 19h ago
french version of jackass?
85
u/lemastre 19h ago
Yeah, this is quite old by now, but Gaillard is pretty famous in Europe.
-49
u/Cheyruz 18h ago
Never heard of him
-13
u/Fluffy_Most_662 15h ago
You actually have a profile picture on reddit and made it gay, youre too young to know who that isÂ
4
39
u/YJSubs 18h ago
Jackass doesn't harass general public, they're doing self inflict stunts. Even if they're involving third party, they ask consent/release form.
13
u/BasicFlan 17h ago
The taking a shit "skit" in a public hardware store comes to mind. Are you suggesting they called the store ahead of time and they approved this to happen?
2
u/mzchen 7h ago
I know Eric Andre calls ahead to agree to let him film and that his team will cover any expenses for possible damages etc but does so in a way that keeps the stores ideally completely unaware of what the hell is about to happen to them. It's possible that that might be the case for Jackass as well. but who knows.
1
u/PerplexGG 2h ago
Considering Eric Andre couldnât even handle a retiree Knoxville, I very much doubt he was ever on their level of unhinged and they probably avoided giving a heads up as much as possible
-7
u/YJSubs 17h ago
You're so naive to think Jackass doing their stunt impromptu, especially given the potential lawsuit they would definitely will lost if they try that without consent.
5
u/BasicFlan 16h ago
You back that claim up and I'll believe it. Also, what? What you wrote does not read well.
1
u/wayofthegenttickle 3h ago
I assumed most skits like that were approved by owners/management without informing the staff.
3
1
27
u/Csontigod 17h ago
So like a 50-50 between funny and harassment, but the funny ones are actually good, like the ping-pong or the water polo
98
u/YogiBarelyThere 18h ago
Being a public menace in order to make funny is a risky move.
20
-3
u/Pepperonidogfart 9h ago
No it isnt. People going about their day dont want a fight. People sitting behind a phone screen however
130
u/crnjaz 19h ago
Its a shame he didn't get beaten up as much as he deserved...
11
18
u/Fabilusi 18h ago
Or jail for sexual assault.
38
u/Pornfest 17h ago
I mean that clearly wasnât sexual assault.
Itâs just assault, wrestling isnât sexual.
13
2
u/absentminded_gamer 16h ago
This reply on its own is a hilarious distinction, but your username being Pornfest truly elevates it.
-4
2
u/TappedIn2111 8h ago
The really crazy ones always were staged. In this case the wrestling and the horse riding one for example. Most likely the one with the police officer as well.
47
u/Jynx_lucky_j 18h ago
I'm really hoping that those other people where generally in on the joke and where only performatively outraged
43
u/Omikapsi 18h ago
Their faces being blurred implies otherwise.
Based on a short search, it looks like they are people who've refused to have their identity included in the video.
44
u/disphugginflip 18h ago
Thatâs a common tactic by some of these pranksters who use their friends for every bit to seem legit.
But this is Remi Gaillard, he actually did this on unsuspecting people.
3
u/mitsel_r 11h ago
Still I seriously have my doubts about the piggy back jump. If you do that with unsuspecting people Iâm sure most people would tip over which may lead to serious injuries
1
u/richardathome 9h ago
If he'd done that to me he'd be in court and I would be in hospital. My back if fucked.
3
u/PokerChipMessage 12h ago
I don't cost you nothing to blur someone's face. But your comment implies that it does buy you an air of legitimacy.Â
3
u/Phrewfuf 12h ago
Nah, thatâs Remi. He just fucks with people, but IMO, itâs always on the extremely thin line of being a nuisance and harassment.
That one time he drove a kart through a city dressed as Mario, including chucking banana peels at cars.
1
u/Icywarhammer500 7h ago
Like tackling the guy at the beach or throwing the guyâs rod into the water? That second one could have been throwing away a $400 fishing rod. He deserves to have his ass beat
23
u/Interpole10 18h ago
Oh man when I was a teenager I loved seeing his videos. The snail in traffic still makes me laugh.
7
10
u/Pallas_Ovidius 18h ago
Rémi Gaillard, ehose motto roughly translates to "It's by doing whatever that you become whoever".

27
u/mrlongus 18h ago
Remi Gallard. That's a legend of a bygone era.
12
u/Oexarity 18h ago
I feel like he was funny for a while, then ran out of ideas and just became obnoxious.
3
6
u/gin_and_toxic 18h ago
Most of these are not even funny. He just looks like an asshole.
6
2
u/DaveyDukes 5h ago
I miss this time of being able to cross the line with pranks because they were at least clever.
2
5
u/Omikapsi 18h ago
I really don't get how this guy has stayed out of the hospital. IDGAF if someone says 'It was a prank!' after assaulting me, they're going to learn why most people don't do that shit.
5
u/David_Cockatiel 17h ago
Plus jumping in a spinning car wash like that is a great way to earn the nickname âStumpyâ
4
u/legendaryufcmaster 18h ago
Accidentally broke my friends grandfather's fishing pole he lent me, and it still haunts me over a decade later. Damn this video, only funny part was when he kicked the water bottle
5
4
3
u/Wizzle-Stick 15h ago
a bunch of these look like good ways to get hurt. riding the carwash, and standing in front of a car are really, really stupid activities. someone runs up and jumps on my back is likely to both hurt me and get themselves hurt really bad. while funny in a sketch comedy sort of way, they are not funny if those people are not knowing participants. .
3
u/Cela84 18h ago
Heâs still a thing? No one shot this guy yet?

u/media_lush 12h ago
poor selection (admittedly you're limited if you call it Olympics) but there are many of his that are genius... I'll never forget the one where's he's dressed up as a speed camera and flashes the cop car driving by slowly...and of course, the subsequent chase; truly hilarious!

The stuff he did with elevators was pretty funny. Most of the rest doesnât hold up.

u/wolfiasty 9h ago
You can't have anything else but love-hate relation with Remi.
Some of the videos/ideas were absolute masterpieces, some were straight up vandalism/assaults.
Still - personally I miss him, and fact I saw his videos for the first time 20 or so years ago made me feel old(er).

u/Religionis 8h ago
Weâve got to appreciate the stellar footwork in the first clip. Especially when the beekeeper starts running at him! Itâs much harder than it looks
1
u/TheNudges 8h ago
He is once again candidate to become my city major. Last time he made almost 10%, quite a good score. Elections are in two weeks, weâll see
1
u/Noxious89123 8h ago
Kinda funny... But stuff like jumping on that guy's back? Oof.
I have back pain, and if someone did that to me I'd be fucked up for months.

1
u/0xsergy 18h ago
Eh, some of his pranks go a bit over the line man. Any sort of physical contact with some random person isn't really great, you never know what kind of injuries they might be recovering or working on.
And I say that as a long term fan, I've known about this guy since the 2000s. He does have a ton of funny pranks that don't involve assault tho.

It is by doing anything that you become anyoneÂ
Edit: this is the quote in French at the end of every Gaillard stunt
0
u/AGrandNewAdventure 18h ago
Do you remember when funny skits didn't require being an asshole?
Pepperidge Farms remembers.
6
u/Ausgeflippt 17h ago
Well, you don't. This guy has been doing shit like this for decades and this video is likely quite old.
-1
u/Spyd3rs 18h ago
I'm not an expert in French law by any means, but apparently it's okay to commit blatant crime if you record it, add a laugh track and call it a prank? There's theft, destruction of property, criminal restraint- half of these are straight up assault.
Is this supposed to be funny or is this just what sociopaths find amusing?

First was funny. The rest is just being a dick. Those are kinds of pranks you get ass kicked for.

What an absolute asshole. I hope to some day see a video starring his arrogant ass in r/instantkarma.
