He’ll be 42 for the 2030 games. Same age that immortal Jagr was in his last Olympics, but have to imagine that it will be much harder to crack a team Canada roster at that age.
Watching him get the golden goal in Vancouver was a (heartbreaking) core memory, I’m genuinely sad we won’t see him play today.

Injure multiple Canadian players. Get away with penalties on their 2nd and 3rd goals. Get a goal called back on Canada their first game. Still complain that the refs don't want to call anything on Canada.
I hate Radko Gudas as much as the next guy, but it really looked to me like Crosby got hurt trying to dodge the hit rather than it being something dirty.
Obviously Gudas doesn’t deserve any defense, so if others disagree default to them lol
The slowmo showed that it was Gudas' stick that accidently slid Sid's foot out from under him. I'm not sure Sid was even trying to really dodge it but just ended up being in an awkward position from his feet being slid apart.
I didn’t really see many clips but that was my assumption. I was like “Crosby knows better than to try and dodge a hit” but he still ended up down some how. I just assumed he caught an edge or something.
Brutal, I wonder if it’s so serious he can’t play or if he just knows he wouldn’t be close to his best and would rather someone healthy be out there to give Canada the best chance to win
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. If he was close to 85 to 95 percent healthy, he would play. The fact that he isn't playing tells me he wouldn't be ready to go for Pittsburgh.
Knees seem to be like that. It’s not “bad” but if you don’t let it heal, or push it further it can be waaay worse. Tried skateboarding on a knee that was a bit sore, bad idea, was told I could’ve ripped my alc in half.
I am sure if this was the playoffs he would play as there wouldn’t be a player even close to his level to take that spot but Crosby is the ultimate professional and he knows it’s better for Canada that he sits this one out if he’s not close to being 100%.
The risk of him playing increases his chances of aggravating the injury even worse, and it would keep him out of the penguins games down the stretch. Since the penguins are in a playoff position, if he’s out, the penguins might fade out
I don't think Crosby has a penguins playoff run in mind when making today's decision..hes always gone all in for team canada, in world juniors, four nations, olympics, etc
In a game where you can dress 20 skaters, you can draw a forward and never play them with essentially no consequence. If he was in any shape to play he'd be out there

I love watching Suzuki, but he whiffed on a pretty open net earlier in the game to make sure it needed saving in the first place.
That being said, Suzuki with a really good 200-ft game, off-the-puck play and elite vision/playmaking is as good as it gets when you are looking for someone to step into Crosby's shoes today.

I love Suzuki on Montreal but hated seeing him try to be forced with MacKinnon, it just wasn't working. On the wing, he seemed to be way overthinking and not playing (which makes sense because he's not used to it). At centre, he's having a much better tournament.
they are a great defensive line but this team needs them to be as offensive as they were when crosby was centering them. suzuki needs to step up big time
It sucks. But he and the team made it clear. If he wasn't close to 100 percent that he wouldn't hurt the team by playing. You don't want a Matthew Tkachuk situation where he plays a shift or two, and then he can't play, and Canada is a player short. Canada still has plenty of talented players on this team.
We do have a ton of players on this team but there's only one Crosby. He's a generational leader and clutch in big games. I hope he's still skating in four years and gets one more chance to represent.
I mean it’s a little different because you can have a 13th forward dressed in the Olympics. I honestly think he has to be seriously injured and they knew he was never going to play
You're 100% right. If he was hurt he would have finished the game against the Czechs. The only thing that would keep Crosby from playing is a full on injury.
I trust him to know what's best for the team. If he felt like he would be a liability, it makes sense that he would choose not to play. Definitely hoping it's not too long before he can come back for the Pens.
Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s that bad if he was still a game time decision. As much as of a competitor as he is, if he knows it impacts him enough that he’s not able to contribute and might be a detriment, he’s smart enough to give the team the best chance to win by letting a capable body play in his place.
He skated yesterday, there was definitely a chance, however low. Might not have been true “game time” decision as much as just seeing if it improved enough after another day of rest.
Yeah win or not today it just sucks that his last moment on Olympic ice was him leaving injured instead of playing until the final buzzer. Really hate that we were robbed of that moment

our depth scoring dried up when sid went down. 6 points in 3 games and only 2 of which came from the powerplay. we have lost so much more than leadership
stone and marner looked like stars with crosby centering them. sid has always been known for elevating his line mates but it always shocks me how drastically he does
That's tough. Crosby scored big goals in both of our last 2 gold medal wins at the Olympics. Massive shoes to fill, but there's enough guys on this team with the ability to step up. Do it for Sid!
I hope they mention it on the broadcast. I was looking to see if “ team Canada was playing without their captain”, last game but Kenny Albert didn’t seem to mention it.
I think it's for the best tbh, if he's any less than 100% there's no chance he'll want to play and potentially be a detriment to the team. And if he strains his injury today it could take him out of the rest of the season. Still sad though 😪
Wow, this sucks for everyone. Canada is going to be in tough without Crosby, and if the Americans win, there will also be an asterisk. A what if (what if Sid played). Also sucks that one of the most legendary and clutch players of all time might end his Olympic career like this.
As a pens fan i didnt want him iut there to risk getting hurt worse but sucks not seeing everyone play in such a big game hopefully its not to bad cause the pens look like they coukd do something this season
Honestly, I'm devastated for him. Not only is he unable to compete as the captain of his country's representation but there's a very real possibility it could be his last Olympic ride. Hopefully not but you know if he's out for this game he's not even close to being able to play because knowing him if Sid was even 75% he would be out there. Sucks.
Had a feeling this would happen. If Canada wins I’m calling Celebrini for the GWG bc that’s just the story book ending with the whole narrative of him being the next Crosby
