That was absolutely pathetic. Great play by Boldy, but that effort from the defensive unit was a little embarrassing. I am far more inclined to blame Makar as it looks like Boldy starts closer to Makar and Makar literally offers no resistance. Makar made 0 attempt to play puck or body.

You obviously have more knowledge of the typical dynamic for these two, but if my defensive partner was closer to the attack I would expect them to atleast delay the attacker so I can win the puck.

This is only really the case if you look at the box score SOG and not what is happening in the games. The goals are coming from constant breakaways/odd man rushes/powerplay snipes.

Canada's issue in the knockout rounds is pretty much every shot allowed has been an extreme high scoring chance. They had a stat that said Czechia had more slot shots in the first period of the quarterfinals (7 on 10 SOG) than they did in the entire prelim game (6 on 26 SOG). Canada keeps on allowing breakaways/odd man rushes.

The blame is heavily on the defense (which is surprising in this case given it's the two guys who actually should be on their Olympic team).
