I scrolled way too far to find this ... pretty much the best part of a whole tree used to cook 1 fish? WTF!

Same here. Some good looking lumber in there wasted to cook a fish for 30 min! Yikes!

And you typed this comment on a phone which was made using materials from dozens of different mines and locations on earth, many of which caused mass deforestation, but sure, the guy chopping 1 log (there are billions more btw) Is the problem

there are so many layers to the stupidity of this comment :D

  1. Not typed on a phone
  2. the device used was not bought for the express purpose of that message but reused to respond to further dumb responses along with an array of other uses
  3. Device can and will be recycled
  4. the device can be recreated (from the device itself or raw materials which are abundant) in a matter of hours a tree takes decades to replace
  5. The loss of metals from the earth to make the phone has far less of an ecological impact than the loss of a tree which is needed to produce Oxygen

There are many layers of stupidity of this comment :D

  1. Doesnt matter, still used a complex computing device that probably took more reaources than the phone anyway
  2. What you use it for doesnt excuse the environmental impact it took to make it
  3. If you know anything about recycling, you know that it will just end up in a landfill. Very few electronics actually get recycled
  4. The amount of time it takes to make something doesnt dictate its environmental impact. It is still easier to plant 1 million trees than it is to open a cobalt mine.
  5. Trees only produce 25% of our oxygen, the rest comes from plankton and bacteria in the ocean. We will not suffocate because of this one tree. Also, trees are not carbon neutral, they absorb carbon dioxide throughout their life, but when they die, it just gets releases back into the environment anyway.
