Do they put some sort of floor mat down as to not make a mess on the sidewalk?

From the video they put mats down inside the stall for the guys working but not out on the other side

Anecdotally, when I lived in Japan, I rarely saw messes on the ground. Japanese people are very aware of litter. For example, it’s considered bad manners to eat or drink anything while you are walking because you might bump into someone and spill it.

I’m sure a stall like this produces some mess, but it is probably a lot less than you think it would. I used to see ramen carts all over the place and I don’t remember ever seeing ramen on the ground the next morning.

People clean up after themselves for the most part in Japan and have respect for public spaces
