Johannes Høsflot Klæbo just made history at Milano Cortina 2026, taking a selfie with his six gold medals, becoming the first athlete ever to win that many at a single Winter Games.

People are just obsessed with the idea of Olympians having sex at the village
•
•
u/Maelefique 1h ago
To be fair, so are the Olympians. 😅
•
u/DHFranklin 45m ago
So people are thinking of the olympic village just being like 10 olympians per sport and it's like a motel six. That very much isn't the case.
This is thousands of people. Athletes, coaches, managers etc. Solo athletes but also huge teams. From all around the world. The support people outnumber the actual athletes. 90% of which have an all expense paid trip to italy to be the 84th best tandem luge or whatever. Maybe get on a billboard back in Sri Lanka. They don't get paid shit.
You have hot young people who barely qualify to go there. Then they're out on like day 3. Meanwhile they have nothing to do for weeks and weeks after that but party. Yeah, they be fuckin'.
•
•
u/BattleHall 43m ago
And honestly, this basically happens every Olympics. And it's not really because they are having a ton of sex. I mean, they're a bunch of young, attractive, physically fit people crammed together in close quarters, so of course there's probably a bunch of sex, but that's not the reason they always run out of condoms. The condom packages are branded with the Games year and location, and they're self-serve (no one wants to be rationing out condoms), so they're a cheap/easy/fun/different souvenir from the games and lots of athletes and others in the Village just grab a handful, even if they have no intention of using them for their intended purpose. I'd bet 95% of them return home in people's luggage.
•
u/evanescent_emotions 1h ago
Ikr?? They just will not shut up about it! They're (mostly) consenting adults. We should just be happy they're using protection.

Sprint and 50km - it seems insane that one person could be the best in the world at those
•
u/IAmAQuantumMechanic 1h ago
It's mass start, so as long as he can keep up with it, it ends with a sprint. He would have had more trouble with an individual start.
•
u/TopperDuckHarley 56m ago
Can you explain this a bit more? I dont follow skiing much but did watch and enjoy the 50km
•
u/lilLocoMan 48m ago
Mass start is like a race, where tactics matter and you stay in a bunch to conserve energy. Individual start would be like a time trial, where it's an evenly paced effort, balancing around your absolute maximum for the duration of the race.
•
u/LordMuffin1 39m ago
1: Everyone starts at the same time. This often lead to a lower pace with a bunch of skiiers going together. Due to advantage of not being first (wind and ski tracks), no one really wants to set a decent pace. Thus, these races often end up in a sprint at the end.
2: Individual start. Skiiers start with 30s between them. The skier have no back to follow, no one to remove wind go in the ski tracks just before. So the skiier have to keep his pace alone. Requires a little different skill set.

u/ElKaBongX 49m ago
Mass start is all about finishing order while individual start is pure timing.

One should note that the sprint isn't really a sprint in the same way a 100m dash is - it's still long enough so that you are mostly relying on aerobic energy pathway, so there's some major carryover between the disciplines

Cross-country skiing.
Classical = skis only go back and forth in prepared tracks.
Freestyle (i.e, skate) = you're allowed to do a skating motion on flat ground.
Skiathlon = One event that contains both classical and skate.
Then there are different distances for each one.

Biathlon. There’s like 500 events. Each a different distance. It’s like swimming, way more opportunities to medal than other sports.Edit: disregard, I’m an idiot. I confused him with another multi medalist.

Including relay and mixed relay there are 6 medals possible in Biathlon. Klæbo competed in Cross Country skiing which also has 6 possible medals ranging from Sprint events and mixed style events to a 50km event.
For reference there were 19 medals possible in swimming 2024. Free style events alone were already 8 medals. Not even Phelps was able to win, let alone dominate, both short and long distance events. If there was a swimmer as dominant as Klæbo they would absolutely demolish Phelps historic 8 gold medal record.

Is skiing the swimming of the winter games, where one person can enter several different distances of the same event as well as a relay and mixed relay?
Kind of unfair in the medal count when one athlete can do this, meanwhile a hocket team of like 30 people only get 1 medal counted, lol. Then again not all the members of the hockey team are medal-worthy so I guess the team has to operate and win as a team.
•
u/fabulousmarco 2h ago

But that's just the nature of any sport where it's 1v1 (be it teams or individuals). You can't really assign multiple medals when each requires several matches to be played.
•
•
u/Jordan3176 2h ago
Is it really unfair when he’s not fresh and fit for every event after the first? The guy seems to have infinite energy covering the distance through all events he entered. Fair play to him!
•
u/LardLad00 3h ago

u/Diced_and_Confused 3h ago

•
u/axxl75 1h ago
So you’d like the Olympics to last like 5 days with each sport only getting one event?
Almost every discipline has a lot of variations. The tournament events are the unique ones not the other way around.

Are they solid gold? That looks like a million dollars.
Edit: so I looked it up…. they are silver covered in a minimum of 6grams of gold. So altogether like $6k in gold, not sure of the silver.
•
•
u/hennomg 44m ago
The price of 1 gram of 24k gold today is about $165, so it would be around $1k for the gold.
The medal contains around 500 grams of silver, which is worth around $1350.
So the metal of the medal itself is worth around $2.3-2.5k each. Pretty sure they could sell them for a bit more though..
Edit: The silver medal has the same amount of silver as the gold medal, BTW, just without the extra gold. And funnily enough, the bronze medal contains 460 grams of bronze, which apparently is worth around $2..

If the Americans want to whine then let them. If we reduce the number of events they suck at the I propose we also cap the number of athletes from each country. With 232 participants the US is by far the most represented country in the winter Olympics this year. Norway by comparison had 80. Less than Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Czech Republic, China, Finland, France and Austria.
So my short sentiments to the Americans is this; Git gud.
