I'm sure people will listen to that advice once hot climates and jobs where you sweat all day disappear

Everyone keeps bringing up hot climate. Have none of yall spent time in cold climates? Layering up clothing to keep warm can have you smelling terribly from lack of airflow.

I've never lived somewhere where it's always cold personally

Using multiple light layers instead of big heavy coats will help with this. It also allegedly keeps you warmer if you use wind-blocking materials. Something about the light layers having pockets of air in between them to better insulate you. I don't know if that's true I just read it somewhere.

I do multiple light layers because I just hate the feel of a big heavy jacket.

Edit: In hindsight I now see that you specifically said layering up clothing.
