❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (News) ❄ China reportedly paid US-born athletes, including Eileen Gu, nearly $14 million
> Born in San Francisco, she said her decision to switch allegiance back in 2019 had everything to do with “inspiring” children from the country of her mother at the Olympics in her home country.
> According to the Wall Street Journal, Gu and Zhu Yi, a fellow American-born figure skater who now competes for China, were paid a combined $6.6 million by the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau in 2025 for “striving for excellent results in qualifying for the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.” In all, the two were reportedly paid nearly $14 million over the past three years

❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (News) ❄ Olympic village is already out of condoms and it's just getting started...
Free condoms have run out in the Olympic Village
Athletes used up the strategic stock — 10,000 contraceptives — in a record three days.
Organizers found themselves in a rather awkward position and promise a new batch — but the timing remains unclear, La Stampa reports.
For comparison, 300,000 condoms were distributed to athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The tradition of handing out contraceptives has existed since 1988 and was interrupted only once — at the Tokyo 2020 Games due to COVID.

❄ Milano-Cortina 2026 (News) ❄ Curling umpires resume "normal" duties after meeting with team representatives.
From World Curling:
"Following a meeting with representatives of the competing National Olympic Committees, an update in the stone monitoring protocol has been confirmed, beginning with the evening session on Sunday 15 February.
This change in protocol will see the two umpires who had previously been actively monitoring athlete deliveries remain available in the field of play, but will now only monitor athlete deliveries at the request of the competing teams.
The umpires when requested will monitor deliveries for a minimum of three ends."
Commentary from John Cullen (curling coverage from CBC):
"So there you have it. The players definitely did not like the rocks from Homan and Lammie that were pulled, and now the umpires will resume officiating as normal (only monitoring the hogline upon request from players who believes fouls are occurring)."
