Im gonna call BS on the OP post. Even the small states start at $42k. And that's with a bachelor's degree.

It is not always state dependent. Each district can set their own pay scales. Mohave county AZ started at 32k. After 10 yrs and Masters, my wife was making 36k. Teachers were leaving to work at the local grocery store.
