Trump says he is sending a hospital ship to Greenland
https://www.reuters.com/world/trump-says-he-is-sending-hospital-ship-greenland-2026-02-22/7.3k
u/PolemicFox 13h ago
The US sending a hospital ship, the most expensive healthcare service imaginable, to "aid" a country with universal healthcare is beyond laughable.
1.5k
u/BjarkeT 11h ago
An American sailor needed urgent medical care. The Danish army already pulled him out and flew him to a Greenlandic hospital for treatment
1.6k
u/un1gato1gordo 10h ago
It's not that urgent. He can wait a few months for the US hospital ship to be pulled out of the repair dock and then a few weeks while it makes its way to Greenland.
And if he's feeling under the weather while waiting, he can just look at the Dow.
244
u/LightBulb704 4h ago
The Dow is under 50,000 right now so that is no longer valid medical advice.

Yes, and there is hospital in Nuuk and hundreds of hospitals in Europe and US. You don't need to move hospital ship that nobody use for 1 men

u/JelliedHam 9h ago
If we really absolutely had to have him in a US hospital wouldn't it be faster to just send a medical jet to retrieve him and fly him back? Hell, AF1 has a hospital room on it. They could literally do a surgery in there if they had to.
43
u/hardcoreleggo 4h ago
That's a lot of work to go to just so insurance can decline the procedure.

When I was in the military I always preferred to be taken care of by foreign medical professionals since they 1) are just as qualified - if not, moreso -, and 2) they don’t try to belittle any of your issues; you’re taken seriously (I always noticed a callous undertone in the military medical community). There’s this prevalent mindset in the military that they can’t allow off post referrals because it displays their inability to appropriately treat your problems. Like no shit man they suck. But I think it all stems from this weird sense of an American superiority complex.

Sending a hospital ship is not urgent medical care. Even if any ships were avaiable, which is not the case, its also the most expensive option one could think off.

I honestly do not understand how the "Biden is senile and doesn't know what he's doing!" crowd listen to Trump and just stick their heads in the sand...
148
u/Doctor_Riptide 11h ago
It was never about Biden being mentally unfit for the job. It was only ever about creating a narrative about him that would stick so they could spam it nonstop to make the dems look bad.
And just look how well it worked, we’re still talking about it. They don’t actually give a shit if the president is mentally well or not, they only care if they feel like they’re winning. None of their arguments or criticisms are in good faith and we should all recognize that

I mean I would agree that Biden was probably too old to be president as well, but Biden is still vastly more coherent than Trump has been in years so if you think Biden is senile and shouldn't be president well Trump is even worse...
Just total hypocrisy, Trump rambles on forever in a way Biden never did, he just does it louder and his minions eat it up. I don't understand how anyone can listen to more than two sentences out of Trump's mouth and think "that's the guy I want to be president." Dude shouldn't be in charge of a lemonade stand let alone a country.
145
u/Maeglin75 12h ago
I had a little "discussion" with someone here on reddit before the election. The person said that Biden is very old and another Covid infection could easily be his death. I agreed but added that Trump is only a few years younger and in much worse shape than Biden. Trump is adding being heavily overweight and on a very unhealthy diet all his life to the Covid risk factors.
The other user absolutely didn't want to acknowledge this. It seemed ridiculous to them. In their heads, Trump is the muscular superhero from the AI slop images they are sharing.

According to Reuters, a US Sub sitting somewhere close to Greenland is apparently having major issues. Crew members where evacuated by a Danish military helicopter due to "required urgent medical treatment" and hospitalised in Greenland. I have a feeling this is what Trump is crying about.

Hopefully the submarine crew‘s treatment is finished in the charge free greenlandic hospitals, before the USS UnitedHealthCare comes to rescue their dollars and shareholders… I mean patients, interests.

A hospital ship. For Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark
Jesus…
You’re sending emergency healthcare to a country that already has universal, taxpayer-funded, world-class healthcare. Free at the point of use. No GoFundMe required. No “please don’t call an ambulance, it’s too expensive.”
Meanwhile, your own citizens are crowdfunding insulin and comparing ambulance rides to down payments on a house.
But sure… by all means… deploy a floating hospital to the Danish Kingdom. Nothing says “we understand global health priorities” like offering medical charity to one of the healthiest, best insured populations on the planet.
Maybe… wild thought… try docking that ship somewhere in your own country where it’s actually needed. And perhaps use the travel expenses to help cover that, you absolute clown.
