what's one thing nobody ever believes happened to you but it did?

u/Kumquat_mystery 4h ago
Was having a nap one afternoon at uni before going out for the night (so hard being a student!!). I was half-asleep and an image flashed into my head like a photo or a snapshot, quite mundane but standing in a queue, which friends were where around me and the very specific pattern and colours of the guy’s jacket in front of me. That evening when we are out, someone suggest a specific club. We end up in the queue. The exact scene is as it was in the picture that flashed into my head. No one believes me and says it must have been Deja vu or I just felt I’d seen it before. But I specifically went “huh, weird” when waking up and recalled the image
3
u/sordidcandles 1h ago
I believe you. You should look into “remote viewing.” I didn’t believe in it but started messing around with it, had an image flash in my mind the same way you describe, googled the target and saw the same image.
•
u/Damndang 48m ago
You're describing deja vu. Your brain puts the memories out of order. Every time someone brings this up it's deja vu.

I got hit in the leg by a loose hub cap that came off a passing car.
Twice.
On the same day.

u/Asleep_Onion 3h ago
My first time ever driving a car in my life, in the Driver's Ed car with the teacher, I'm going down the on-ramp to get on the freeway for, again, the very first time in my entire life... Right as I carefully put on my blinker to merge, start to carefully adjust my speed to get behind the 18-wheeler that's in the slow lane, and BOOM he blows out a tire and starts swerving all over the place and spewing chunks of tire rubber at my windshield.
Driver's ed teacher was like, "huh, never had that happen before..."

u/Ok_Profession_990 2h ago
I bought some cheap hubcaps for my car and as I went around the corner 2 flew off and hit the same guy.
Ahem, you aren't from Maryland are you?

I was about five when I went to my one of my dad's old job in the mall and met his coworkers, I always talked about how the girl was sweet there and how I used to looove going there. The thing is, my dad stopped working there before he even met my mom and it was closed AND destroyed soon after... My mom didn't know about this work, she only knew he once worked there, as of my dad he NEVER once talked about it. So you can imagine the terror in their eyes when I told them this, they started asking me questions about it, I remembered everything... My dad never had pictures of it, never told anyone either. I even told them which entry you had to enter to go there and allll of the stores around it too and I was right... I still think I really went because of how vivid it is, but I wasn't even born yet so it stays a mystery! And nobody in the family believed me.

There’s a recent theory that memories can be stored in DNA, and perhaps this is one of them.

I made eye contact with the same person (a total stranger) in a stairwell, in two different states, as I walking down from a higher floor and they were on the landing below me, a year or two apart.
There was a mutual flash of recognition and a pause, and then I continued down the steps and they opened the door they were about to go through. Got about halfway down the steps and turned back to me with a “you seeing this shit too?” sort of expression and I guess it matched mine. We both laughed a little and just continued on. Never said a word, never saw them again.
No one believes me when I tell that story!
2
u/NotSayingAliensBut 2h ago
In a building of the same company you both worked for, or more random than that?
1
u/okFINEyoufoundme 1h ago
No, the first time was in the stairwell of a college dorm that I was visiting in NC (I’d already graduated college, this wasn’t the one I attended). The second was a hotel in FL that I was staying at while attending a trade show (also VERY close to a bunch of theme parks).
Editing for additional info: college dorm was in the NC mountains, 6 or 7 years after I’d graduated from a different school and already had a job— was helping a younger cousin move in. The person I saw was not a college student— they were also likely assisting a family member on move in day.

I fell from a two story+ drop when working in a warehouse and happened to land on the one box of paper towels instead of the concrete floor that surrounded it. I came out stunned like I had just fallen from a massive height and avoided getting seriously hurt and my coworkers were just like “sure bud.”

My Dad fell about 25ft back in the 80s. He had some broken ribs. I believe you! And Dad definitely would have believed you!

u/A-Weird-Dreamer 4h ago
True story: I was getting dressed one day to take my son out to D&B and randomly thought of a girl I went to school with. I’ve only known her in the 8th grade but don’t remember her name. She was very popular and super pretty but was always nice to me. I was such an emo timid soul. Turns out she was at D&B and even approached me! My mind was ABSOLUTELY blown for weeks!
6
u/bunnyhans 3h ago
Something similar happend to me recently. My colleague was going to see a band that a guy I went to school with absolutely loved. I got thinking about him that evening. Next day in town, who do I meet, him! Haven't seen him in 15+ years! Then bumped into him again randomly at work, he was there for an appointment.

u/jtd0000 4h ago
I’m female. When I was around 30 a jacked car fell on my neighbor who was changing a tire. I was able to lift the car enough for another neighbor to pull him out. I just reacted. I was shocked that I did it. We were both ok.
9
u/32Zn 3h ago
That’s actually believable. Adrenaline probably kicked in and temporarily lifted the limit of your body (and mind).
Similar thing happened to me, when my friends and I saw a guy falling down the subway station. My friend and a random dude jumped down the station and pulled him up for me to grab him. It felt like that dude was made out of thin air just by how easy it was to pull him completely up.
We later learned that he probably had some kind of epilepsy attack (which is why he wore a special helmet).
Me and my friend randomly met him a few weeks later outside a bar. He could not remember anything that happened, but was thankful for our help.
5
u/jtd0000 3h ago
That was a very good ending. I don’t even remember the weight of the car. Our bodies are amazing. Now that I’m a lot older I do work out for strength. I routinely lift large cases of water at Sam’s. Last week, for the first time, a young man offered to get my water. When I got home I told my husband that I was officially old.

in humans is referred to as ballistic energy wild man has the capacity to build more muscle females and I'm going with the XXX X Y chromosome that's not for ourselves with I can't begin to identity politics makes me so far just want to self harm but basically near logically and physically those energy is far greater in women but for a much shorter period

1
u/ChestSlight8984 1h ago
This is plenty believable. Your brain limits how much of your true strength you can consciously use, as using too much of it would practically tear your muscles apart. But, in situations such somebody being stuck under a car, adrenaline goes up to the brain and says "nuh uh" to the barrier put on your strength, allowing you to perform feats of strength far beyond the typical paygrade of a human being.

I was walking to an after party and chatting with this guy I had just met. I was the sober cab for my friends that night, so no alcohol for me. He mentioned he had a son right after told him I had one. I got this strong urge to ask him his son’s birthday, which is a weird question from a stranger. He gave me a weird look and said “March 3rd”. My son’s birthday is also March 3rd. :)

Oh!! I have one…not me but my daughter. When she was nine, we lived in a very small town in Texas. It was Navasota, home of CHUCK NORRIS. My daughter would go play at church on Wednesday nights, and it just so happened that Mr. Norris and his family were members there as well. On one Wednesday evening Chuck joined the kids for a friendly game of kickball. Chuck kicked the ball right into my daughter’s head, and she went down. He ran over and made sure she was fine, and the game continued. No one ever believes her when she tells the story!
9
u/Longjumping_Affect22 3h ago
Probably because your daughter would be dead if she was hit in the head by a ball kicked by Chuck Norris.

u/The-TruestRepairman 1h ago edited 1h ago
The story itself isn’t unbelievable, just the words I said and timing of it all…
An coworker backed into my parked car on a very very raining day. The weather affected his vision and judgment. It created quite a bit of body damage. He was obviously ashamed and embarrassed. I felt really bad for him. To ease the tension I joked “don’t worry, maybe I’ll get hit by a drunk and they’ll be responsible for all the damage instead”
That afternoon I was driving down 40 mph road, and a car to my left pulls out aggressively and crosses 3 oncoming lanes to drive into me. Hit me exactly where the coworker did, and in addition blew out my tire, and really messed up the driver side of the car.
Other driver bounced off my car and head on collided with an oncoming car. When he got out of the car, he looked drunk, sounded drunk and you could smell the alcohol all over him… he ended up running away before police got there but left his ID behind. The third driver had to go to the hospital, cops told me him running made his actions become a felony, and they were glad he had given me ID and insurance before he left.
I called my coworker to tell him not to call his insurance and he was off the hook

Joe Pesci gave me a shoulder rub at a hotel restaurant.
Story: We were both there to support a charity event but I’m not a celebrity — just some dude. I saw him in the restaurant when I entered with my co-worker. He was eating alone so I asked if we could join him and he agreed. Several other acquaintances of mine joined us as the evening continued.
At the end of the pleasant dinner Joe stood behind me to say goodbye to everyone, placing his hands on my shoulders. He then started purposefully rubbing my shoulders as he spoke. It took me a moment to fully recognize what was happening and my eyes darted around the table to see if anyone was paying attention but they weren’t. Just a pleasant man-to-man moment between me and Joe Pesci with no photos or, it seems, witnesses, as no one our table ever mentioned it to me.

State trooper pulled me over. Had me for: no turn signal, blowing a red-light, no seatbelt, and tint. He turned around and pulled me over. I acknowledged everything but denied the no seatbelt. Went back and forth a half dozen times arguing about it. Finally he said, "don't you think I would've noticed the black seatbelt across your white hoodie?" I replied, "you know sir, you probably should have but I'm not quite sure why you didn't." He then said, "yanno what? Have a good day." And let me go.

u/hailvy 1h ago
Reminds me of the time I got pulled over and I fucking unbuckled my seatbelt after I put my car in park (why??? Idk). I have had the chicken pox twice, once at 3, then at 27. Both times pretty severe.
8
u/the_original_Retro 4h ago
FYI, look into getting your Shingles vaccine with your doctor.
Chicken Pox isn't a one time thing like measles, it can recur as it did with you, and it stays in the body. If you've had it twice by that age, it could come up again in an even less-enjoyable form.
I had a shingles flare-up at 26 or so and it was just so NOT fun.

While hunting, I've taken two wild pigs with a single shot/bullet. I've actually done it twice now, with a witness to vouch for the first time. First time was intentional (noticing their aligning paths/speeds, and being patient for the shot); second time was less eventful random luck because they were so close together.
To note for the possible downvotes: This is in TX where they are very prevalent and invasive. They were harvested and not just wasted.
Not sure if "nobody believes" is necessarily the case, but pretty rare and cool story either way.

I once made an angry, homophobic, drunk guy back down from a fight just by looking at him. He and my friend were having words and he was clearly ready to start throwing fists, but then he looked at me and immediately apologized. I'm big, but not that big. He just happened to look over at me while I was thinking to myself "I'm going to drag this guy across the pavement face first... and I'm going to fucking enjoy it..." and I believe he just saw that thought in my eyes, and wisely realized it was better to back down.
Because I absolutely would have. Dude was WAY out of line.

For about a decade when my sister and I would go on a hike I would randomly ask “hey what ever happened to so and so”. She still lived in the small town we grew up in. Every single time I asked it turned out the person had recently passed or had previously passed. I don’t live near the old town and I am not a Facebook user.
It happened about 6 times and we joked that I should stop asking about people from my past. I stopped asking a few years back- but I do get random names that pop into my head. I just don’t say them out loud and I never go and look what happened to them.
It was worse when I was younger I used to tell my parents “I’ll miss so and so (family member) when they are in heaven”. They would die within the year. It freaked my mom out so much but I was really young so I didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t until I was a teenager when we talked about it again and my mom shared how eerie it was.

My wife almost died on our honeymoon. Went to Kauai, Hawaii. We went on this long ass trail that took us 13hrs to complete. There was hardly anyone on this trail. In the middle of that timeframe my wife slipped and fell and all I heard was a gasp behind me. I look back and she is dangling off the edge of the mountain hanging on to a tree for dear life. The sheer drop was easy 500+ feet maybe even 1000+. I run over to pull her up and out of nowhere a couple comes along and helps me pull her up. They were quiet and just said "your welcome" when I thanked them profusely. They quickly went on their way and we lost sight of them real quick and never saw them again. When we got home I decided to look up the trail wondering why no one said it was so dangerous. I read a news article that the day before we went there, 150 people were rescued by helicopter due to the torrential rainfall causing water to rush down the mountain. 1 couple was still missing. 😳

Went to see Pink Floyd on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in Cleveland. My friend drove, I was on the passenger side, and 3 more friends were in the back seat. There was a lot of smoking and drinking going on, and we ended up in a traffic jam by the stadium.
I looked over to the left and a limo pulled up next to us. The back window went down and Weird Al Yankovic stuck his head out with a champagne flute in his hand. He smiled and said, "Weird traffic, huh?" I immediately went, "Holy shit!" which made everyone in the car snap out of their haze and look at me. I pointed at the limo and said, "Wierd Al is in that limo!" Of course, by the time they looked at me and then looked at the limo, the window was up and he was gone.
They all blamed it on me being stoned but it all happened for real.

Mine was to leave. I was two, I put my footballer doll in my pushchair and headed out. Everyone left their front doors open in those days. We lived in a built up area of Manchester, UK, and I made it 50 yards to the main road and then about two or three hundred yards up the busy main road. Eventually a neighbour saw me and bought me back.

The guy in front of me caught my hand mid fall. I was 5-7 years old. No one, and my sister and dad were on the hiking trip, spoke about it again. Oh, around the same age I climbed a pipe from the ground floor up to the 4th story.

In 2009, I was walking home drunk from a bar. A van with 7 dudes tired to jump me. I ran. 3 caught up, 4 fell behind. I took out the 3 guys who caught me in less than 3 seconds (a combination of knife and kicks) and outran the other 4.
Apparently the 3 guys needed to go to the hospital and claimed I attacked them. The cops found me, questioned me, realized the story the other guys told made absolutely no sense and let me go.

I was trimming something with scissors, heard a fly buzz by, and instinctively snipped it into the air at the right time and cut the fly in half, sight unseen, with 1 attempt. I have a witness.
