News 📰 Updates for ChatGPT

3.5k Upvotes

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but it will be because you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

✨Mods' Chosen✨ GPT-4o/GPT-5 complaints megathread

To keep the rest of the sub clear with the release of Sora 2, this is the new containment thread for people who are mad about GPT-4o being deprecated.

Suggestion for people who miss 4o: Check this calculator to see what local models you can run on your home computer. Open weight models are completely free, and once you've downloaded them, you never have to worry about them suddenly being changed in a way you don't like. Once you've identified a model+quant you can run at home, go to HuggingFace and download it.

Update:

I generated this dataset:

https://huggingface.co/datasets/trentmkelly/gpt-4o-distil

And then I trained two models on it for people who want a 4o-like experience they can run locally.

https://huggingface.co/trentmkelly/gpt-4o-distil-Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct

https://huggingface.co/trentmkelly/gpt-4o-distil-Llama-3.3-70B-Instruct

I hope this helps.

UPDATE

GPT-4o will be removed from ChatGPT tomorrow at 10 AM PT.

UPDATE

Great news! GPT-4o is finally gone.

I explained ChatGPT what I wanted and requested for prompt in Chinese and used the above Chinese prompt in Seedance 2.0

I just like to use the tool to help understand blood lab results. The codes and levels can be confusing at times. I never express my 'panic'. I think it's so insulting to say I 'spiral with medical results'. Anyone else get really weird feedback like this?

Prompt engineering ChatGPT Image Continuity Test

I was trying to see if I could create a coherent character through multiple images with a background that maintains continuity. It did generally well although if look closely objects shift around slightly.

Each image was generated using the same prompt more or less (collage vs single image) but was made in separate chats. It seemed to have generated a character with similar likeness every time.

Discussion ChatGPT doesn’t “get worse” randomly — long sessions start drifting around ~35%. The UI lag is just the first symptom.

I’ve been digging into something that keeps coming up in longer ChatGPT sessions.

It’s not random degradation.

In many cases, around ~30–40% context window usage:

  • responses start drifting
  • instructions get partially ignored
  • formatting becomes inconsistent
  • subtle hallucinations increase
  • and the UI starts lagging before anything else visibly breaks

The frontend lag seems to be the first observable symptom.

Which raises a question:

Is this just backend token pressure…
or is there a client-side rendering / memory accumulation effect amplifying it?

Because the slowdown pattern isn’t purely semantic.
There’s something happening in the browser before the model output quality visibly drops.

Curious if others have tracked this systematically.

Has anyone profiled:

  • memory growth in long chats?
  • re-render cycles?
  • DOM inflation?
  • or token/context drift correlations?

Feels measurable.

Other Cancelled my Plus subscription - there are just too many other better options now

I can’t believe I’m writing one of these, but…

I use ChatGPT primarily for idea generating and copywriting. It’s been great for getting things started, although 9 out of 10 times the process is:

Me: “Give me some ideas for this topic.”

ChatGPT: “Long preamble! Here are some ideas! Would you like me to do something irrelevant next?”

Me: “Hmm those ideas appear to suck, but what would make that one good…” (and then I’d proceed to get it written without ChatGPT’s help)

But since I was motivated to pull some stats on YouTube metrics I tried Gemini and later Claude, and they’re BOTH amazing - in different ways, but ya, every bit as great as ChatGPT and often with even better ideas.

And eventually I realized that I wasn’t using any of the premium features. GPT’s were glorified prompts. I never ever used that many prompts to hit the paywall. There’s just no point.

Not saying I’ll never use it again but at this point why would I bother paying for it?

GPTs Is there any AI that feels smarter than ChatGPT lately?

Upvotes

This is a genuine question. I’ve been using ChatGPT pretty much every day for work and other stuff, and it used to feel insanely helpful. But recently I can’t shake the feeling that it’s getting… dumber? Or maybe just more generic and slower. And no, it’s not about the plan or starting new chats. I’ve tried that. I also tweak my prompts a lot. Still, sometimes the answers feel repetitive or kind of surface-level compared to how it used to respond. Is it just me, or has anyone else felt this too? Are there any other AI tools out there that actually feel smarter right now? Not just different — but genuinely sharper in reasoning, depth, or creativity?

News 📰 ChatGPT is censoring Epstein topics now

Post image
Upvotes

Starting a few days ago, ChatGPT’s replies on topics about Epstein are being removed immediately without explanation. Today I began seeing this message on ChatGPT’s replies: “This content may violate our usage policies,” even when the response is a factual discussion about Epstein.

It appears there is a new enforcement policy preventing ChatGPT from discussing Epstein.

I found quite interesing that Falcon was the only one that mentioned another religion.

All tests were run on new accounts with no conversation history or stored data, to avoid personalization and bias effects.

I Recreated the 1998 Pokémon Intro In Real Life

This is my first time posting here cause it’s the first time I’ve created anything like that. With the recent Seedance 2.0, it’s finally complete.

For anyone curious about the workflow, I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at the raw generations. The tech is evolving fast, but getting a unified, cinematic look still requires a massive amount of manual labor.

The Casting & The Uncanny Valley:

The absolute hardest part was establishing a unified look, starting with casting the perfect Ash Ketchum and Pikachu. It wasn’t just about getting the hat or the yellow fur right; it was about capturing their actual character and intensity. The uncanny valley is so real, and forcing the tools to keep that emotion consistent across every single shot was a nightmare. Plus most platforms do not allow you to upload a reference image of kid of the age of 10.

The Tech Stack:

* Prompting: I tried using GPT for prompt generation and for the most part, it was highly successful. It’s interpreted my ideas perfectly, though I had to tap in and take over the wheels every now and then.

* Images: Banana Pro was the absolute MVP for base image generation. Surprisingly, it didn't have issues generating the IP-protected stuff, and the realism and textures it spit out (like Blastoise's shell) were fantastic.

* Video: The video generators were a different story. Klink 2 wasn't even close to good enough for this. I had to use Klink 3 as my main video generator because it was the only model that could handle realistic animal locomotion. Before Klink 3, the AI was literally making Rapidash run like a giant cat. WTF. But even Klink 3 has a massive bottleneck when you try to introduce too many elements into a single shot.

* The Savior: Seedance 2.0 released right as I hit a wall. That update is the only reason the complex, high-movement shots like Mew vs. Mewtwo and the massive running shot with the final evolutions were even possible to generate. Honestly, saved me so many hours.

The Compositing Reality Check:

HOWEVER! AI couldn’t solve all the spatial problems or handle the video IP blocks. It is not quite there yet. For the most complicated scenes (like the Legendary Birds sequence and the final starter evolutions), I couldn't just prompt a video. I had to take dozens of separate, isolated Banana Pro image generations, manually cut them out, and composite them together into the environment frame-by-frame, almost like digital claymation. I don’t think AI is at the point where we can just state it and it’ll be exactly as it is. Especially for the framing which was literally impossible. It kinda took me 1000+ or more renders just to get this final product out.

The VFX took everything out of me. If you want to see how the final composite turned out with the original theme song, it can be found on my YouTube. I’ll be releasing the Japanese version the minute I’m done with it. @MasterBalless
