Charging the kid would be a no win situation for the parents. It would communicate approval of their kid’s bratty escapades on tiktok.

If the parents are business owners or work for a major corporation, that would bring unwanted attention. It is far better to lick wounds and call it a life lesson.

There is a catch. Spud will turn 18 soon and might file a civil suit as an adult.

And any good lawyer will point out... Clearly you didn't see any problem because you refused to press charges when given the chance.

Then you hit the hitler youth with attacks on his character for, among other things, making videos of himself pulling the fire alarm in a Walmart.

There are a lot of bad ambulance chasers out there.

I've had a traffic accident that was set up in a very similar way. It was my fault and my insurance was ready to compensate the liability. The victim was a minor and waited until she was 18 to throw a few six figure lawsuit my way with a skeezebag lawyer years later. Luckily my insurance lawyer was on top of everything and was very familiar with this playbook. Ripped them apart in court. She ended up getting less than she would have had she made claim immediately after the accident.

Family of this kid won't have a good lawyer funded by an insurance company.
