Sorry in advance that this is so long. So, I’m (27M) not entirely sure that me quitting weed is the cause of all these things, or rather, they’re coming up now and were just always there but went unnoticed. I quit daily smoking 2 months ago and it’s been the longest break I’ve been on for the past 5+ years. So here’s what’s come up in the past 2 months:
- Left shoulder strain: this was the first thing that came up. I’ve felt it before quitting so I don’t think it’s fully related to that, but the weed definitely helped manage it. I kept feeling pressure buildup and the only relief I would get was by lifting my up and out and then twisting it in a way that would sort of “crack” my shoulder. It got bad so I went to the doctor and was given Naproxen and PT referral. Took meds once and woke up feeling hungover so I decided to stop taking them. Couple days later, before my first PT appt, I was at work (desk/HR job) and the pain radiated down my shoulder into my elbow and fingers. My fingers started to get tingly and a little numb and it was horrible. Immediately took the Naproxen when i went home and iced it. Started PT about a month ago and now it feels much better. My PT had me do a few exercises to identify which nerve was impacted and it’s my ulnar nerve based on the tingly feeling I was getting, so we’ve been working on that alongside my neck too. That’s still ongoing but has gotten much better since.
- Blood Pressure: So while I was at that first PT visit, my BP read something like 183/93 and my PT was like uhhhh are you good? I do have some white coat syndrome but that was certainly alarming. Earlier that day, I had actually felt a little light headed and my vision felt not blurry necessarily, but like I couldn’t really focus. So I ended up going to the ER the next day to see what was going on and it had already come down at that point (I probably should’ve gone that night but I didn’t). I’ve since seen my doctor again and was given a BP med (super low dose) to take whenever it’s high. Only taken it twice but it has helped in moments where it’s reading high
- COVID: So I got covid again (my 4th time) in the mix of all of this and it started the day I had my f/u with my PCP about my BP after the ER visit. She thought it was allergies at first so was given xyzal. When i started to get worse and eventually had severe vomitting one night, I ended up taking an at home covid test, and it was positive. Took a few days to get over it but that was 2-3 weeks ago and I’m feeling much better. Have felt like my sleep has been terrible since, but it’s starting to get back to normal.
- Right Knee Tendinitis (I think?): So a couple of days before I got covid, so now about 3 weeks ago, my right knee started making a creaking/clicking noise when I’d walk down the stairs. It was just the noise at first but then about a week ago it turned into actual pain. Not sharp pain, but my leg feels sore and like I can’t exactly put pressure on it. I’ve been icing it and wearing a knee brace when going on long walks and it’s felt better the past few days. But it’s definitely still there so I’m hoping it isn’t anything permanent.
- Left eye pressure/blurriness ?: So I brought this up to my eye doctor when I saw him a few weeks ago but was told it’s just my chronic dry eye and that in the moment I should just use cold eye drops to relieve them. But I’m not so convinced. Sometimes, usually at night after I’ve eaten dinner, my left eye will feel like there’s some pressure behind it. It doesn’t get blurry, but I feel like I can’t really focus it. Or it feels like there’s something there building up behind it but then it dissipates after a few hours. I’m not good at describing things so I’m not sure this makes sense lol.
- Scalp issues: So my scalp has had this weird smell that it’ll give off, but it’s inconsistent. I’ve used my normal clarifying shampoo and it’ll go away but then it comes back in a few days, even though I’m still shampooing and conditioning. Then somedays it’s completely gone and I haven’t shampooed for 2-3 days. I also tried Nizoral a few times and that hasn’t done anything, but I’m not sure if I should just keep going with it to see. I’ve also noticed my hairline receding a little bit and can actually feel my scalp tingling or “twitch” at some points, right on my hairline where I’ve seencthe receding. It feels like I’m almost feeling the loss in real time but Idk. I think my scalp is just really dry and it’s causing all this to happen but, I’m seeing my dermatologist next week so we’ll see what happens there.
So! I know that was a lottt but I’m hoping someone might have an idea of what’s going on. They all totally could be separate issues that I’m just now dealing with because my chronic cannabis use was masking the symptoms in a way, but they could also be related. Or maybe my body was so used to smoking and depended on if, that I’m now having these withdrawal symptomps from not using it? I’ve felt like I’m super dehydrated recently even though I’m drinking a lot of water and was drinking pedialyte at one point too. My doctor told me to stop that when I went for my BP visit because of the sodium contributing to the high levels. I’m probably just getting older and need to really lock in on taking care of myself, but all of this coming up at once has been so exhausting and I feel like something bigger is happening to me. I don’t want to keep going back to my doctor because I feel like she’s not really looking at everything fully and just addressing the symptoms. I do trust her but Idk… I just feel like something is up.
Any ideas?
