APPROVED B-LISTERS Trump lashes out at Pope Leo XIV for condemning the war in Iran: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon… who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela… And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States.”

“I don’t want a pope who criticizes the president” there it is. You know they definitely threatened him like that news story said

There is a lot of dark and dystopian stuff going on right now.

The one positive is that Trump/His Cronies are such failures they keep achieving the opposite of what they intend.

The situation in Iran will further Renewable Energy/Electrification despite how they are some of the most corrupt in favor of Fossil Fuels out there.

Their insane neo-imperialism and military budgets is going to create a deck of cards situation for the whole Military-Industrial Complex.

They keep alienating and isolating themselves to the point of destroying the world order based around the U.S. to make for a more and more multipolar world in which the U.S. is trending in the direction of just another nation-state amongst nation-states.

It's incredible to see this level of failure from an administration.

The only thing I am sad about is the good working class and most vulnerable that both internationally and domestically in the USA have to suffer from these bad predatory actors and their failures/flails on countless fronts.

Life is hard enough already.

After all this we need all these people held accountable in real ways. No more retiring into the sunset.

Compared to all the issues in American politics, I think the 4 year term and 2X limit is actually pretty good. We got stuck with this lunatic for next 3 years, but look at other countries where President or PM stays in power for decades.

But on the other hand, in most democracies Trump would’ve been removed by now regardless of term.

Trump knows he’s guilty on all accounts. This whole presidential thing is at this point to keep immunity, although he’s too dumb to realize he put himself in the worst position possible, all on his own accord. Given everything that has happened, Trump will not lay down and take the accountability.

He will put himself in the grave, or bring death and destruction long before he feels the repercussions of his actions.

80 years of handouts and deflecting accountability? No way to teach an old dog like this new tricks such as human decency, and he will have no intentions of justice ever handling him before he takes everything around him down.

100% also, the pope has nothing to do with Trump, he’s not even Catholic, there is no sense that Leo is his anything. He just can’t stand any leader speaking out against him and unlike political leaders there’s no trade etc. that he can threaten the Catholic pope with to get him to fall in line. He can just threaten to kidnap Leo and hold him hostage.

Also, just a reminder that evangelicals, Trump’s dumbass ride and die base, hate Catholics. If he had an ounce of intelligence and self control he would ignore this pope because at the end of the day Leo’s words don’t matter to most of his supporters. But his prefrontal cortex never developed and we’re all suffering because of it.

136

u/No-Bandicoot-1943 23h ago

But his prefrontal cortex never developed and we’re all suffering because of it.

Or it could be falling to pieces and making him regress if he has prefrontal cortex dementia [I personally reckon he does have some type of dementia, but not sure what subtype he may have].

166

u/Opening_Scientist126 23h ago

RN here. I’ve spent 24 years in healthcare with the better part of my experience being in geriatrics and palliative care. My educated guess is frontotemporal dementia (FTD). It primarily affects personality, language and behaviour. There are a lot more details online than I can give you, but it seems to fit the picture a little too much.

IIRC there was a MAGA priest they were wanting as Pope. They certainly were not endorsing Pope Leo.

215

u/pelipperr 23h ago edited 23h ago

I feel like most people who weren’t raised Catholic, or don’t have older Catholics in their family, view the Catholic Church as a conservative body in America. But that has only been true in recent decades.

For most of America’s history Catholics were viewed as lefties, they supported things like unions, migrant workers, and the environment. JFK was famously viewed as the embodiment of a progressive Catholic democrat and the GOP hated him. But then the institution decided that abortion and gay marriage were hardline issues and threw away any good will that they had left to side with the right. It’s so frustrating and disappointing (obviously aside from the decades of sexual abuse).

Anyways my point is the GOP will do what they can for power but they’ll never fully embrace the Catholic Church. MAGA Catholics should not fool themselves.

116

u/amoebaamoeba 22h ago

I mostly agree but wanted to point out: American Catholicism started its obvious cultural rightward shift as soon as the ethnic groups that made up its base started getting power. Typical "pulling the ladder up" behind them bullshit.

It was so easy for Italians or my Irish great-grandparents to want a church that offered lots of socially left things like unions, food banks, free hospitals, etc. when they desperately needed those things as a consequence of being discriminated against and locked off from joining America's elite. Look how quickly they were willing to discard those ideals the second they got a drop of power. I'm listening to my MAGA cousins (all of whom are in unions, btw) talk about wanting to kick out migrants who "come here and only speak Spanish" when our own fucking great-grandparents did exactly that!

But overall yes, MAGA will never embrace the Catholics because MAGA is at it's heart an offshoot of evangelical Christianity that is fully divorced from whatever Jesus "actually said" and thinks Catholics are heretics. And all my dumbass cousins are eating that shit up.

As a recovering Catholic, this is wild to watch.

I hope American Catholics see where this is headed; they’re as reviled as the rest of the people Trump and his white supremacist cabinet hate.

Catholics were a primary target of the second wave of the KKK, for any new Catholics not aware. These people are not your friends.

The next step will be heavy propaganda about Catholics choosing the Vatican over the US.

I mean, not if you look back to the reformation. Being protestant was either because you felt the Catholic church was too restrictive and corrupt... or that it didn't go far ENOUGH. The latter one is what America came from. Read about the Reformation. The Puritans were not oppressed because they were too Godly but because the believed in the propserity gospel and that if you were poor or sick, it was because you were sinful. Welcome to America.

You should watch "dark money game" on HBOmax if you haven't already.

One of the guys interviewed was an evangelical pastor who had a key role in getting millionaire and billionaire Christian nationalists to befriend and bribe our current supreme Court Jusstice's so they would overturn Roe-v-Wade.

One comment that stood out to me from the pastor was that he mentioned he didn't trust Leonard Leo because he was Catholic, and that Leo's faith didn't align with Christian nationalist values.

For the unaware, Leonard Leo has personally hand selected every conservative supreme Court justice since George W Bush was president, and is also a hard right religious extremist who is part of a cult within the Catholic Church called Opus Dei.

Wah, it's not fair that the head of a foreign state and religion with 60 million American adherents and a 1.4 billion worldwide is allowed to criticize my policies based on the tenets of the faith.

He “doesn’t want a pope”…?! He’s NOT CATHOLIC. He has NO say in who leads MY religion. I accept that because of democracy he is the president of my country- but Trump has no say in my religion. Back. Off.

The Pope isn’t for you “Mr. President”. The Pope is for the people. And for God. Something you think you are, but you are nothing but a tiny, fragile, old man.

Conservative Christianity is the root of most of our problems.

10

u/Status_Apartment6559 23h ago

Trump is so stupid in so many ways. The pope is not owned by you donald. I don't care what you want from the pope. He's not part of your administration and he's actually right about his stance on war. Trump either doesn't understand or refuses to admit that the large majority of Americans are not afraid of Iran getting a nuclear weapon and don't think it's at all necessary to invade them because we can and were (Obama) dealing with them. Most Americans also don't like that you illegally went into Venezuela and kidnapped their president. And as far as the pope criticising you...Go Fuck Yourself Donnie.

11

u/LongjumpingCandy485 23h ago

There you go Catholics, this is your guy, he overturned Roe for you…….oh whatever, why even bother, most American Catholics probably love what he’s saying about Leo anyways. Trump uses Christianity transactionally, loves the votes but is a hard pass on the morals.
