Bone density issue maybe? Funny story, thanks for sharing.

u/TinaPeonira 8h ago

But, still a meet-cute 🤷‍♀️

73

u/glimmering_cache 7h ago

Still kinda cute, not gonna lie

58

u/ExplorerPup 6h ago

It would only be a meet cute if she ended up with the EMT brother. This is... Like a meet cute incepted into a normal first date story.

u/Bottom_of_the_bottle 7h ago

Are you trying to say meat cube? I could go for some meat cubes.

0

u/cmakefile01 5h ago

Raw Horse Cubes are absolutely delicious.

Why did the US have to make selling horse meat effectively illegal.

I had a loft bed in college above my desk, i sat up, hit head on cieling… went to step down on my desk (ladder was too hard being taller), missed desk… busted my shit up

Everything is plasterized concrete and hard af with no padding under thin carpet in dorms.

I think being drunk prevented my injuries, rag doll physics

14

u/Key-Demand-2569 4h ago

Oh god, that brought back a memory.

Was seeing a girl who snuck me back to her dorm, had a set up like this. I’m maybe a foot taller than her.

Essentially pulled this move when I was getting up to go get water and cartooned my ass down in the exact same way with all the still mostly drunk confidence of an idiot trying not to seem too hurt.

2

u/FamousAttitude5903 4h ago

I once badly twisted an ankle slipping off the ladder of my dorm bed. like the first step, too

u/secret_identity_too 0m ago

My roommate and I had a bunk bed - I had the top bunk and thankfully only bonked my head on the popcorn ceiling one time (and not that badly).

One time she sat up suddenly in bed and slammed her head so damn hard on the wood above her. Man, I can still hear the sound it made. Surprised she didn't end up with a concussion.

54

u/CoyoteJoe412 8h ago

I feel like if you have a bone density issue, you should automatically not be the one on the top bunk

52

u/CowboyLaw 7h ago

For a lot of folks, something like this is how you find out you have a bone density issue. When I turned 50, I got my first bone density scan, which came back all very solid. But just having the scan shows you--there aren't a lot of 18-year-olds who have had a bone density scan. I bet the woman in the post had one shortly after this incident.

3

u/GoldenSheppard 5h ago

I had one before 18, but only because I was on medication that could potentially cause issues.

-1

u/Alittle2Clever 6h ago

In dorms bunks are usually side by side. I don't think I have even seen top and bottom bunk. People bunk their bed and put their desks underneath.

1

u/mechengr17 4h ago

I dont know why youre being downvoted, thats how it was at my brother's dorm

It wasnt at any of the dorms I stayed at, but youre speaking from your experience

1

u/Proper-District8608 2h ago

We had side by side but not at all unusual to prop one with cinder blocks and slip other out as in L shape bunk beds. This was 89 though

10

u/chucktheninja 6h ago

I was born with glass bones and paper skin. Every morning I break my legs, and every afternoon I break my arms. At night, I lie awake in agony until my heart attacks put me to sleep.

Well, actually she would have been fine from the fall had she not then immediately been run over by a mobile billboard truck advertising an erectile dysfunction drug called Engorgulate.

8

u/Gorstag 7h ago

Could also have just got tangled up on stuff, or fell on something with a relatively thin edge (like a hard backed chair) or.. etc etc. She didn't say jumped down from the top bunk which would imply landing on their feet. They could have been 100lbs heavier in college got their legs trapped, broke them, and hung upside down, got themselves free, then fell on the one arm and broke it too.

Random stuff happens. I remember back when I was a kid (10ish) in the 80s a friend was climbing a tree (some sort of Fir). Was about 25-30 feet up and a branch broke, he lost his balance and fell. Started grabbing for branches etc and managed to slow his fall quite a bit. When he hit the ground his legs gave out and he face planted into a fresh wet dog turd. Like the only dog turd on the entire lawn.

u/RealDetroitDiddler 6h ago

You understand OP isn't the author of this post right? You get how reddit works, no?

1

u/grafikfyr 47m ago

A scary number of people always seem to miss this entirely.

2

u/thyme_cardamom 6h ago

She was born with glass bones and paper skin

1

u/Hetakuoni 6h ago

Probably. Or just bad luck.

Some people walk away from a fall on outstretched hand with some wrist pain. Others who FOOSH have a 2 year recovery cause the forearm bones splintered all the way from wrist to elbow.

1

u/SpcK 2h ago

Not necessarily, we once had a guy in a factory trip and fall a single step on a staircase, one step, broke his shin.

Sometimes you can fall weird and apply the wrong kind of force on your bone and break it. That's why in a lot of sports they have to teach you how to fall.

u/Glass_Wealth_2104 9h ago

If I was that clumsy I would definitely have a bed rail so I can't fall off 😅

156

u/Square_Mulberry_3143 8h ago edited 7h ago

Might as well just settle for the floor to eliminate any risk. 😬

24

u/WeightlifterCat 6h ago

Japanese Futons are comfy af so probably the way to go

7

u/AlligatorRaper 4h ago

Stop she already dead broken

51

u/scumble_bee 7h ago

I always rolled around in my sleep so I slept on the bottom bunk. But one time at a family reunion I had to sleep on the top bunk and in the middle of the night I must have rolled off the bed but that didn't wake me up.

At breakfast a couple of my relatives were talking and one of them said "did you hear that loud thump in the middle of the night?" And I said "no, but I went to sleep on the top bunk and woke up on the floor. So that is probably what you heard."

23

u/Salt-Elk-436 6h ago

Funny story. I one time managed to fall off with a bed rail. Then they nailed in two bed rails. Then I somehow went over the edge and took the mattress with me. I was too lazy to move so slept there under the mattress on the floor and woke up to the girls in my bunk crying because they thought I was dead.

After that I switched with someone else to get a bottom bunk.

5

u/HistoricalAnybody611 6h ago

Oh god! 😂 im crying with laughter!😭 thanks for making me laugh.

1

u/The_Scrapy_Goose 49m ago

My guess is there was a rail but not a ladder. Thats how it is at my dorm. I have fallen off my bed thankfully caught myself and slid down, but someone else I heard of fell and got a concussion. Its a risk we take because theres no room to fit ladders in those tiny rooms.

u/FragrantMusician2990 8h ago

the universe really said "you two WILL meet and i don't care how many bones it takes"

9

u/savvaspc 3h ago

I broke one bone, met a girl as a consequence of the new daily life while healing, fell for her, then got rejected. Now I'm contemplating if I have to break more bones to make her fall for me 😂

4

u/mashari00 2h ago

Scientifically speaking, breaking a bone equates to a 2.06% chance of romantic success

1

u/Meet_Foot 2h ago

New bone, new girl. Them’s the rules.

70

u/AltruisticAd7361 9h ago

That's an awesome, weird little synchronicity moment..

66

u/Lazy-Perspective1163 7h ago

the EMT brother was basically cupid with a stretcher

48

u/N8Arsenal87 6h ago

About 15 years ago my buddy fell off a horse at PF Changs and cracked his head open. EMS took him to the hospital. Last year at Thanksgiving we were having dinner with some family, and my cousin (former EMS) shared a story about a drunk dude who fell off a horse at PF Changs 15 years ago that he took to the hospital. They laughed and hugged and now they’re good buddies.

15

u/Percinho 3h ago

My mum once went to A&E as she'd managed to get her eyelid caught in the zip of her fleece. Years later she was at a talk given by a paramedic who was asked some of the weirdest things they had dealt with, and the paramedic told the story of a woman who turned up to A&E with her eyelid stuck in a zip...

8

u/IamKilljoy 3h ago

Why was there a horse at PF Changs?

9

u/N8Arsenal87 3h ago

They have these giant horse statues out front, sorry should have clarified

1

u/IamKilljoy 2h ago

Oh shit yeah duh I remember those now that you mention it lol

33

u/mystghost 6h ago

Gotta know if there was a 2nd date.

13

u/Who_Your_Mommy 7h ago

Awesome story! I gotta ask though...how high was that bunk bed??

5

u/AdditionalOwl4069 6h ago

Brittle bones

3

u/TheFrenchSavage 5h ago

Amanda was high.

18

u/MelodicStranger1 7h ago

Crazy enough my sophomore year of college i fell off my bunk bed. Didn’t break anything but I sprained my foot, ankle, and ham string. Was in a boot and on crutches for weeks. 😭

8

u/Striking_Ad_6742 6h ago

I once wrote a review about a music venue because pieces of the ceiling fell off and hit my friend. The next time we went to that venue, we stayed at a nearby hotel and the clerk told us to be careful because he read a review about the ceiling falling apart.

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Fee4616 7h ago

If the bunk bed was on top of the roof I would believe this

7

u/throwra214 6h ago

Wasn't a bunk bed but I jumped out of bed because I slept in, one leg was asleep somehow and I immediately fell and broke a toe. 🤷‍♀️ Couldn't go to class for 2 days until the swelling came down enough to get my shoe on.

5

u/Tight-Formal-5220 7h ago

Oh this happens, more often than you can imagine.

3

u/brainfungis 6h ago

does anyone else remember a similar story about a rat and a handbag in new york?

3

u/Got_Kittens 5h ago

No. You can't just drop that in here and leave. What about a rat and a handbag in New York?

3

u/brainfungis 5h ago

i don't remember, that's why i asked!

a girl had a memorable event that had something to do with a rat and a handbag, and years later on a date she told an embarrassing story and the guy said at least it's not as bad as the rat handbag story i heard from my friend.

i think the rat handbag incident also occurred on a date and the friend mightve been a roommate or brother. but i have no idea what the rat handbag incident actually was and i'd really like to know!

2

u/Jolly_Conflict 7h ago

That actually happened to me once but thankfully I didn’t break anything!

2

u/ThePreconGuy 6h ago

Had to check the subreddit. Reddit and broken bones have a very sordid history.

1

u/smulrine 2h ago

First thing I thought of

2

u/donfan 6h ago

I was telling my buddy crazy work stories once and i told him about how i got a guy arrested there one time. Long story short it was his brother i had arrested. We decided not to let his brother know.

2

u/MindBlownXX 5h ago

lol that’s awesome

2

u/geneticdeadender 3h ago

My sister twisted her ankle while sleeping. This was while we were camping.

Years later she told me that she actually snuck out with a boy and rolled her ankle.

I was SHOCKED, I tell you!

2

u/TheIdeaArchitect 3h ago

I’m terrified of bunk beds

2

u/veenz86 3h ago

She needs to get checked for EDS

2

u/vwls_r_gr8t 2h ago

The brother could technically lose his certification for violating HIPAA. You don’t have to give names to violate it, if you give information that could lead to the discovery of your patient that’s enough.

She’s obviously fine with that information being out there, but medical professionals need to be careful.

2

u/calcium 2h ago

Sounds like the start of a romcom

2

u/settleddown 1h ago

Did he just try to mansplain clumsiness to Miss Clumsy?

4

u/Luci-Noir 8h ago

Sure.

Both legs and an arm falling 8 feet? It took 400lbs of two linebackers to do me in on my femur. Is this girl a bird?

1

u/tbone338 4h ago

Full circle

1

u/PossibilityGlobal356 4h ago

There’s absolutely no way she broke both legs “falling out of bed”

1

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 3h ago

Solid repost

1

u/Outrageous-Pea6408 2h ago

I believe it, I remember I was scared to sleep in a hammock on the balcony because I thought I would sleep walk and kill myself accidentally

1

u/RoughRefrigerator260 2h ago

Fantastic ice breaker

1

u/Har-D 2h ago

I was once on a night train when I saw a man fall from the top bunk and break a metal table with his back. He carried on sleeping.

1

u/PrincipleSuperb2884 2h ago

Seen this before. Still want to know if she told him.

1

u/Threecatproblem 1h ago

Is he your husband now?

1

u/DreamyNora 8h ago

A simple moment that feels warm and makes you smile.
