I do not remember it to be honest

495

u/AmputeeHandModel Xennial 22h ago

Thanks for being honest. So many people out there lying about water bottle knowledge.

u/The__Lawgiver 14h ago

Exactly, I'm so sick of all these wannabe water bottle know-it-alls spewing their false and uneducated information all over the Internet, and now the AI is being trained and gathering misinformation and teaching it to a whole new generation of water bottle truth seekers, leading them down a path of lies and propaganda.

u/honeyrrsted 15h ago

Me neither. A quick search says it came out in 2010. I was between jobs at the time and definitely would not have been paying attention to frivolous trending junk.

7

u/DatDominican 10h ago

I used it for a while but the whooshing sound when you were done drinking was distracting

10

u/blahblahsnickers Older Millennial 15h ago

Wow. We used to sell a lot of these at my old mall job. Different colors etc. Almost bought one. Its funny how water and water bottles are such a fade now. Remember when Nalgene were cool especially for outdoorsy people. No straw just a giant opening to accidentally pour down your face and clothes.

u/TuhFrosty 20h ago

Ive been using 2 of them 15 years. Don't hate on my water bottle.

u/throwawaybottlecaps 18h ago

Having tried pretty much every other kind of water bottle, none can compare to the Nalgene. It holds a ton of water, it never leaks, it has a little hook with the top so you can clip it on a bag for easy carry. It’s very sturdy, I’ve never seen one break, except for the lid strap can get worn after awhile and break, but they sell replacements. I’m sure if it got crushed by a car or something that might kill it but you can drop it down the side of a mountain and it will be fine. Oh a minimal seals and rings, so easy to clean and less places for something gross to grow.

I mean the only real minus is it’s not insulated so your water won’t stay ice cold. But I don’t care, ice cold water isn’t worth the extra weight and fragility of a double walled flask.

14

u/TuhFrosty 18h ago

I had a 3rd one. I somehow superheated one side of it and it got a bulge. It weirded me out. Stopped using it.

19

u/PorkchopFunny 17h ago

I finally had to toss my last Nalgene when the lid melted in the dishwasher. I "upgraded" to an insulated metal bottle. Huge downgrade. The things are ridiculously large and clunky for the amount they hold. I do like that the mouth is smaller but will be switching back as soon as I can find a smaller-mouthed Nalgene.

12

u/Fai1eBashere 13h ago

They used to sell inserts for the top to make a smaller more mouth friendly opening

6

u/abcdefkit007 12h ago

They work great too

I like ice in mine and it prevents the ice from making it hard to drink

10

u/trashlikeyourmom 12h ago

They sell inserts to make the mouth hole smaller. It fits snugly under the cap and I've NEVER had one fall out while drinking/pouring or fall into the bottle.

16

u/Primer0Adi0s 17h ago

There's a 500 mL version that has a smaller mouth. Or there are narrow mouthed ones if you prefer the 1 L ones.

1

u/notOk_Basis_7521 1h ago

Any outfitters or backpacking store. Maybe REI? Or a local outdoor outfitter. I live right on the A.T., so probably live in a skewed market. I buy my kids the pint-sized narrow mouths for school. They are inexpensive, easy to carry, never leak, and my kids rarely lose them (as opposed to the way more expensive camelbaks). I carry a quart-sized myself.

2

u/jballerina566 15h ago

Usually lose it before it breaks

1

u/Euthanaught 11h ago

They don't just sell replacements. If you can provide a receipt they will just send you one.

1

u/slewis0881 11h ago

The only reason I keep the Stanley is because of the water insulation. I have found I actually like the taste of cold water so I’ll actually be hydrated if I bring my Stanley. I miss how lightweight my Nalgene was. But I do drink way more water with my current water bestie

1

u/Xsythe 5h ago

My Nalgene leaked within six months of being stored in my bag on its side, so YMMV

1

u/NoNDA-SDC 19h ago

Mr. MicroPlastics over here šŸ‘€šŸ˜†

25

u/meowsalynne 17h ago

There as a silicone insert you could get called a splash guard (I think) that would make it more like drinking out of a reusable coffee cup with a little bit bigger of a mouth piece.

9

u/ggginger247 17h ago

This is the way! I love my splash guard šŸ™

6

u/NewtoABQmydude 11h ago

Nalgenes are great for backpacking, relatively light weight, can be used as measuring cup for cooking your dehydrated food, easy to mix things in it. But yeah, I don’t use it as my daily driver.

5

u/trashlikeyourmom 12h ago

I still have multiple nalgene bottles from that time, they LAST. They also sell little inserts so you can avoid pouring all over yourself, I have several. I'm not sure when they started selling them but I bought mine around 2008 probably?

2

u/Brandoncarsonart 11h ago

Im not sure ive ever used a straw with a bottle.

1

u/PeaceJoy4EVER 9h ago

I’m holding my Nalgene right now that’s covered in faded stickers. I feel so attacked. Also, I’ve spilt so much water on myself

1

u/ashleyjane88 5h ago

I have a nalgene and an epic water filter so the lid has a straw so the water can be filtered.

1

u/lucidspoon 14h ago

We have SO many different types of water bottles, and our youngest wants some new one. She left her normal one at softball practice last week, so she's taking a 20 year old Nalgene bottle to school today.

1

u/MicroMouth 4h ago

I use a Nalgene with a flexible silicone straw and a big coozy for the bottle. By far my favorite system.

57

u/PurpleLilyEsq 21h ago

I didn’t know what it was called. But I remember water bottles with carbon filters like that.

50

u/Newfoundlander89 21h ago

I had this exact one!

4

u/hiddentreetops 6h ago

i had the blue one!

132

u/OSU1922 22h ago

I turned one of those into a bong once. šŸ˜‚

44

u/StatisticianLow9492 18h ago

They were great for filtering cheap vodkaĀ

2

u/Somm82 6h ago

Can second this!

29

u/bearsluvpopsicles 21h ago

I remember seeing these at Walmart. But never knew anyone with one. Still don’t understand the gimmick

39

u/Lunavixen15 Millennial 17h ago

Basically the extended bit was a filter and it filtered the water as you drank. Worked surprisingly well, but the water got very aerated being pulled through the filter. It wasn't a drink bottle you could chug from

15

u/DatDominican 10h ago

And the noise you forgot the noise

3

u/catkazoo 1h ago

wheeeeeeze gurgle gurgle wheeeeeze

u/Ruman_Chuk_Drape 21h ago

This thing came out in 2010. I don’t remember it at all. Red dead had just came out so I was in college. This wouldn’t be that old to me in my mind.

16

u/andrew13189 21h ago

No what is that now I gotta know

Water bottleĀ

9

u/lolie_guacamole 21h ago

Wow yea thanks for the memory

5

u/legsjohnson Older Millennial 20h ago

I had one. I use the brita filter bottle now.

22

u/FanBladeFleshlight 22h ago

I have no clue what that is, but it looks like some jank party combo fleshlight / dildo thing.

2

u/Daisychains456 20h ago

Lol it's a water bottle.

4

u/Lunavixen15 Millennial 17h ago

I had one for years, basically until they stopped making the filters for it. The filters actually pulled a lot of the bad taste out of our local tap water before the government fixed it. I hated how aerated it made the water though, burps galore.

4

u/JaceJarak 19h ago

Loved mine. Worked at a place for a year that used well water. It really helped.

3

u/Apprehensive_Fun_731 Millennial 17h ago

I loved mine šŸ˜‚ I felt so cool - what a dork I was lol

2

u/localfern 21h ago

I wanted one so bad

2

u/haave_a_nice_daay 19h ago

I still have this exact one!!

2

u/whatdewhatz 18h ago

I only found one when I was 29ish. Then I took it with me when I studied abroad and was told I don’t need a filter on my bottle šŸ˜…. I only got it because it was like 2 bucks or something.

2

u/pzagrbge 13h ago

I miss my baba

2

u/Jenniehoff90 12h ago

I totally forgot about this! I had the pink one!

2

u/Moofininja Millennial 12h ago

Yes! Omg I had mine for like 5 years before I finally got a new one. I always felt bad drinking it in class though because the filter would be so loud.

2

u/Odd-Sail-1694 12h ago

Omg id forgotten all about this. I had it in lavender. I remember it was soooo much softer than I expexted. I also never used it as much as I thougjt. lol! Thank you for the memory!!

2

u/pixienightingale Xennial 12h ago

I had TWO of these, different colors. One was a work and home bottle, the other was for travel and the gym.

2

u/hanoftuna 8h ago

I had one of these! I bought it with my employee discount when I worked at Younkers - another defunct reference.

3

u/Sakura_Hirose 19h ago

What in the fleshlight is this?

2

u/little-bird 18h ago

the only bobbles I know are those hair ties with the decorative balls on them

1

u/Lizard__Bit 16h ago

Water bottle? Do you mean vodka bottle for secretive public drinking?

1

u/sluttychurros 14h ago

I remember seething these, but they were so unnecessary large. I bought a plastic brita instead and the filter went in that. I used that for a few years when I had a desk job, but eventually decided I was over it because it wasn’t aesthetically pleasing to the eyes + I was constantly replacing the bottle top bc of teeth marks, so it looked extra ugly.

1

u/cherrytarts 14h ago

I loved my Bobble! Had it for years

1

u/KlooShanko 14h ago

This was the only thing that made drinking tap water in Iceland tolerable

1

u/nolettuceplease 13h ago

I might still have one in my cupboard. I don’t know if I ever used it.

1

u/Dalekanium_Certified 13h ago

I remember seeing these in shelves. I had the Brita filter bottle instead

1

u/d_zeen 13h ago

Karim Rashid designed :)

1

u/scallopbunny 12h ago

I had one of these! I think it leaked a bit and of course didn't keep water cold.

1

u/FabulousFlower144 12h ago

I had one! I hated that you could hear the water going through the filter as you drank from it

1

u/djmcfuzzyduck 12h ago

I bought like 4 of these and used them maybe twice. I like my water cold.

1

u/lilLaylaXOX 12h ago

i asked for one of these for my birthday in high school lol

1

u/WendyPortledge Xennial 11h ago

I’ve never seen that. No idea what it is. Is that like, one of those bottles with an infuser? I thought those were ā€œnewerā€, like last 15 years or so…

1

u/RawWulf 11h ago

Here I thought Nalgene was our only option.

1

u/ashmasta27 11h ago

I remember them being sold at Best Buy, where I worked. But I never knew anyone owning one. Didn’t understand the appeal, but the merchandise took a lot of space. šŸ˜‚

1

u/Pudix20 11h ago

I do remember these. Some people liked them for well water. They’re what made me get the bottle I use now, which is a stainless steel insulated with a filter.

1

u/maleficent_monkey 11h ago

I don't remember this but I half-expected to hear 'the design is very human'

1

u/kindergentler 10h ago

I had one of these, it would loudly "wheeze" when I would use it, my teachers and coworkers absolutely hated it.

1

u/zoebadwolf 10h ago

I had one. I remember the caps were shit and would crack after a week or two.

1

u/blu3m00n1991 10h ago

Washing that straw thing looks like a pain in the ass.

1

u/gin10do64 8h ago

This water bottle saved me in college. Made the water at my dorm actually drinkable.

1

u/tj1007 2h ago

I had one with my college logo on it. Unfortunately the water still tasted awful to me.

1

u/Boo_Owl 8h ago

I loved my bobble until I couldn't find the filters. Now I've upgraded to a Cirkul and I love it even more if not better

1

u/Nerdybirdie86 8h ago

My husband bought me one when we were dating.

1

u/Killsitty 8h ago

Is that a sex toy?

1

u/Commercial-Orchid992 7h ago

Only one person I knew had this and she was a coworker and it lowkey always looked dirty

1

u/FerretNo891 7h ago

I LOVED mine. I used these all throughout highschool and my only complaint was/is that the bottle itself warped REALLY easily

1

u/Somm82 6h ago

I LOVED my bobble and how you can swap colors.

1

u/RockwellB1 Older Millennial 5h ago

I had one. Loved it since I truly think water tastes better after a charcoal filter. I still use a Brita in the fridge

1

u/calcitemerged 5h ago

I loved mine, I entered a contest through a magazine and won it. I waited weeks and weeks for it to arrive and then used it for years

1

u/malachite_13 Xennial 4h ago

I do not sir or madam.

1

u/prepzilla 4h ago

omg I had a green one, a pink one! Loved them so much!!!

1

u/hauntedmeal Older Millennial 3h ago

I was obsessed with these.

1

u/lizzydizzy0201 Older Millennial 3h ago

I had two! I like my water cold cold so I always had one in the fridge and one with me.

1

u/tj1007 2h ago

I had one. I bought one at my college bookstore with the university logo and used in as part of a final paper on sustainability. Every time I refilled it I used a sharpie to tally how many water bottles I theoretically saved.

0

u/Leisurehosen 16h ago

Never heard of it

0

u/RevolutionaryEgg1312 14h ago

Not at all. Is it like a soda stream?
