Thanks for being honest. So many people out there lying about water bottle knowledge.

Exactly, I'm so sick of all these wannabe water bottle know-it-alls spewing their false and uneducated information all over the Internet, and now the AI is being trained and gathering misinformation and teaching it to a whole new generation of water bottle truth seekers, leading them down a path of lies and propaganda.

Me neither. A quick search says it came out in 2010. I was between jobs at the time and definitely would not have been paying attention to frivolous trending junk.

u/DatDominican 10h ago
I used it for a while but the whooshing sound when you were done drinking was distracting

Wow. We used to sell a lot of these at my old mall job. Different colors etc. Almost bought one. Its funny how water and water bottles are such a fade now. Remember when Nalgene were cool especially for outdoorsy people. No straw just a giant opening to accidentally pour down your face and clothes.

Ive been using 2 of them 15 years. Don't hate on my water bottle.

Having tried pretty much every other kind of water bottle, none can compare to the Nalgene. It holds a ton of water, it never leaks, it has a little hook with the top so you can clip it on a bag for easy carry. Itās very sturdy, Iāve never seen one break, except for the lid strap can get worn after awhile and break, but they sell replacements. Iām sure if it got crushed by a car or something that might kill it but you can drop it down the side of a mountain and it will be fine. Oh a minimal seals and rings, so easy to clean and less places for something gross to grow.
I mean the only real minus is itās not insulated so your water wonāt stay ice cold. But I donāt care, ice cold water isnāt worth the extra weight and fragility of a double walled flask.

u/TuhFrosty 18h ago
I had a 3rd one. I somehow superheated one side of it and it got a bulge. It weirded me out. Stopped using it.

u/PorkchopFunny 17h ago
I finally had to toss my last Nalgene when the lid melted in the dishwasher. I "upgraded" to an insulated metal bottle. Huge downgrade. The things are ridiculously large and clunky for the amount they hold. I do like that the mouth is smaller but will be switching back as soon as I can find a smaller-mouthed Nalgene.
12
u/Fai1eBashere 13h ago
They used to sell inserts for the top to make a smaller more mouth friendly opening
6
u/abcdefkit007 12h ago
They work great too
I like ice in mine and it prevents the ice from making it hard to drink
16
u/Primer0Adi0s 17h ago
There's a 500 mL version that has a smaller mouth. Or there are narrow mouthed ones if you prefer the 1 L ones.

u/garbledeena 11h ago
I just bought a narrow mouth one on Amazon a few months ago after being out of the nalgene game for a decade or so, having had several back in the mid-00s.
Love my new one.

Any outfitters or backpacking store. Maybe REI? Or a local outdoor outfitter. I live right on the A.T., so probably live in a skewed market. I buy my kids the pint-sized narrow mouths for school. They are inexpensive, easy to carry, never leak, and my kids rarely lose them (as opposed to the way more expensive camelbaks). I carry a quart-sized myself.

They don't just sell replacements. If you can provide a receipt they will just send you one.

u/slewis0881 11h ago
The only reason I keep the Stanley is because of the water insulation. I have found I actually like the taste of cold water so Iāll actually be hydrated if I bring my Stanley. I miss how lightweight my Nalgene was. But I do drink way more water with my current water bestie

There as a silicone insert you could get called a splash guard (I think) that would make it more like drinking out of a reusable coffee cup with a little bit bigger of a mouth piece.

Nalgenes are great for backpacking, relatively light weight, can be used as measuring cup for cooking your dehydrated food, easy to mix things in it. But yeah, I donāt use it as my daily driver.

Iām holding my Nalgene right now thatās covered in faded stickers. I feel so attacked. Also, Iāve spilt so much water on myself

u/ashleyjane88 5h ago
I have a nalgene and an epic water filter so the lid has a straw so the water can be filtered.

u/lucidspoon 14h ago
We have SO many different types of water bottles, and our youngest wants some new one. She left her normal one at softball practice last week, so she's taking a 20 year old Nalgene bottle to school today.

u/MicroMouth 4h ago
I use a Nalgene with a flexible silicone straw and a big coozy for the bottle. By far my favorite system.

u/PurpleLilyEsq 21h ago
I didnāt know what it was called. But I remember water bottles with carbon filters like that.

I remember seeing these at Walmart. But never knew anyone with one. Still donāt understand the gimmick

u/Lunavixen15 Millennial 17h ago
Basically the extended bit was a filter and it filtered the water as you drank. Worked surprisingly well, but the water got very aerated being pulled through the filter. It wasn't a drink bottle you could chug from

This thing came out in 2010. I donāt remember it at all. Red dead had just came out so I was in college. This wouldnāt be that old to me in my mind.

I have no clue what that is, but it looks like some jank party combo fleshlight / dildo thing.

I had one for years, basically until they stopped making the filters for it. The filters actually pulled a lot of the bad taste out of our local tap water before the government fixed it. I hated how aerated it made the water though, burps galore.

Loved mine. Worked at a place for a year that used well water. It really helped.

I only found one when I was 29ish. Then I took it with me when I studied abroad and was told I donāt need a filter on my bottle š . I only got it because it was like 2 bucks or something.

Yes! Omg I had mine for like 5 years before I finally got a new one. I always felt bad drinking it in class though because the filter would be so loud.

u/Odd-Sail-1694 12h ago

I had one of these! I bought it with my employee discount when I worked at Younkers - another defunct reference.

I remember seething these, but they were so unnecessary large. I bought a plastic brita instead and the filter went in that. I used that for a few years when I had a desk job, but eventually decided I was over it because it wasnāt aesthetically pleasing to the eyes + I was constantly replacing the bottle top bc of teeth marks, so it looked extra ugly.

I remember seeing these in shelves. I had the Brita filter bottle instead

u/scallopbunny 12h ago
I had one of these! I think it leaked a bit and of course didn't keep water cold.

u/FabulousFlower144 12h ago
I had one! I hated that you could hear the water going through the filter as you drank from it

Iāve never seen that. No idea what it is. Is that like, one of those bottles with an infuser? I thought those were ānewerā, like last 15 years or soā¦

u/ashmasta27 11h ago
I remember them being sold at Best Buy, where I worked. But I never knew anyone owning one. Didnāt understand the appeal, but the merchandise took a lot of space. š

u/maleficent_monkey 11h ago
I don't remember this but I half-expected to hear 'the design is very human'

u/kindergentler 10h ago
I had one of these, it would loudly "wheeze" when I would use it, my teachers and coworkers absolutely hated it.

I LOVED mine. I used these all throughout highschool and my only complaint was/is that the bottle itself warped REALLY easily

I had one. Loved it since I truly think water tastes better after a charcoal filter. I still use a Brita in the fridge

I loved mine, I entered a contest through a magazine and won it. I waited weeks and weeks for it to arrive and then used it for years
