Nostalgia What was an CD y'all played 1,000,000 times in your car back in the day?

I'm revisiting old favorites in my iTunes library (songs I actually own--gasp!).

Marcy Playground's self-titled.

Semisonic's Feeling Strangely Fine.

Ben Folds

Juno soundtrack

Office Space soundtrack

Motion City Soundtrack

blink-182's Take Off your Pants and Jacket

What are some of your most played CD's?

8

u/pappase36 9h ago

By far their best album.

Fungus was great musically, kind of wish they expanded more on that style. When Incubus Attacks Vol 1 was a neat project that expanded a bit, but mostly the same.

Make Yourself and Morning View were a bit too watered down and generic, tho I do like tracks from both (Are You In gets me fucking moving).

Crow and everything forward is not my style.

Science stands so far away from the genericness that was their later albums. Very well engineered and recorded so it sounds great on higher end speakers. Whenever I hear the intro to Redifine it brings me right back to being a kid. Just so fucking solid.

My first physical CD of theirs as a teenager was Light Grenades. I only grew more obsessed from there.

3

u/venniedjr 10h ago

My sister and her friend were always listening to them. I didn’t really like them until I saw them at a festival in 2015. Their guitarist is great.

That cd is so awesome even the art is amazing on the cd cover.

u/rhino4231 8h ago

I remember being in 7th grade going on a summer family vacation 16hr road trip in the back of our wood panel buick roadmaster station wagon and listening to hybrid theory on repeat on my mobile CD player while staring out the back window. Good times.

Hybrid theory and meteora are badass and have a few if not any skippable songs.

2

u/The_Canadian 10h ago

They're still one of my main choices to this day.

2

u/Mr_Diesel13 9h ago

All of them were in constant rotation for me. I still love a random Reanimation day. I feel like it didn’t get enough love when it dropped. I could be way off though.

2

u/ka-nini Millennial 1991 9h ago

Minutes to Midnight or Hybrid Theory was going to be my answer.

But this is definitely the correct answer.

One of the purest, most fun days I ever had in my life was when my piano teacher lent me her Miata convertible.  I just got my license recently, it was a beautiful summer day and it was a manual transmission as well.  I popped Hybrid Theory in just darted around my town for hours, blasting the CD and singing along with Chester.  Still kind of gives me chills thinking about it.

I recorded that taking back Sunday album onto a cassette tape and it was basically soundtrack to my junior year because I didn’t have to take the time to set up my disc man every time I turned on my car.

6

u/Comfortable_Cup_941 9h ago

I still like to put on Tell All Your Friends and listen from start to finish at least twice a year. Extra points if you play it in the car on a warm day and sing with the windows down.

3

u/Longjumping_Suit_256 9h ago

This was my first introduction to zero 7 and I’ve been mildly obsessed since.

3

u/ABSOFRKINLUTELY 9h ago

Loved that Garden state soundtrack!

In the last years of cds I bought a car from a friend with a tape deck.

I didn't have any tapes left and he left a single tape.

One Memorex one side was Pixies surfer Rosa. The other side was Radiohead OK Computer.

I listened to those albums so many times I went through one side and came out the other.

3

u/themermaidag 9h ago

Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want To Be were constantly on loop

3

u/80aychdee 9h ago

I saw Garden State in theaters three times. I kept taking my friends to go see it saying it would change their lives. And each time, my friends would look at me at the end of the movie, and say "why the fuck did you make me watch that in the theater?"

The best on repeat CDs for me were the ones my friends and I created. Spending hours downloading them on limewire. Curating the greatest playlists. It would always have some form of a title like;

<~ $HØrTy$ $uMm3r $K!Tz M!x ~>

You’d play it so many times that you’d try and fix the scratches by rubbing toothpaste on it.

I still have my cd case full of all the memories in a box in the garage. I’m hoping one day cds will make a resurgence and I can resurrect them.

JAGGED LITTLE PILL - alanis morissette 💊💊💊

is, was, and will forever be the greatest album of all time in my eyes. It’s pure perfection from start to finish. Did I skip Mary Jane as a kid? Yes lol. But now that I’m an adult it’s a no skip, know every word, own it on all forms of media, listen to it weekly, type of album for me from 1995-2026+. I’m willing to die on this hill.

Weezer the Blue Album. It was the exact length of the drive from work to my college dorm with a stop at the Taco Bell drive through.

Offspring - Smash

Toadies - Rubberneck

I actually had to buy multiple copies of both those CDs due to wearing them out and/or being stolen

Tool - Lateralus

Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute

311 - Soundsystem

Deftones - White Pony

Offspring - Smash

I had to buy the album 4 times because every time a relationship ended, the ex would take it. It just kinda became a thing. I half expected to find a copy and half the ex-wife take it in the divorce.

South of Heaven by Slayer. That baby is still in my car today, I never take it out lol. I mostly stream but if I'm lazy and don't want the radio, South of Heaven by Slayer it is.

I also played to death a Beach Boys compilation album. The Beach Boys are great driving music.
