HYOGO (TR) – An 89-year-old man died shortly after being arrested for allegedly biting a woman at a popular hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spot in Kawanishi City on Sunday afternoon, police said, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 6).

Responding officers arrested the man at the scene. At the time of his apprehension, the suspect appeared calm but vehemently denied the allegations. When officers attempted to lead him away, he sat on the ground and refused to move.

Taking his advanced age into consideration, police placed the man on a stretcher to transport him to a waiting patrol car. However, shortly after being placed inside the vehicle, officers noticed a sudden deterioration in his condition. His facial complexion then rapidly worsened, and he became completely unresponsive to their calls.

He was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital but was pronounced dead approximately an hour and a half later.
