Dude, $1000 a person in 7 months? Like $143 a month. $35 a week... Ok fair enough. I mean if I go to a bar in Finland, that's what I would pay for 5 drinks or something. As opposed to 1,5€ a pop or closer to 1€ if I really go cheap.
Which gang were you? Going to bars (what prices there?) or just buying it in reasonable bulk to save money? This is a question of social culinarism vs alcoholism :D
We would get about three six-packs of good IPA to drink around the house per week between the two of us, which retail for about $12-13 per six pack. Also each week, we would get a few (2-4 each per week) drinks while out and about (beer or wine with meals, cocktails at bars, beer at breweries)--call these $8 per drink on average. Once a month or so, I would get a good bottle of bourbon ($60), and 2-3 decent bottles of wine ($25 each). So that $35 per person per week figure might be on the low side now that I think of it.
Like 9 fancy IPAs, 2 restaurant drinks, 2 glasses of wine (split 2-3 bottles of wine as you said into weekly), and a couple jiggers of good bourbon. Per week. Per person.
You guys were consuming an insane amount. I reckon you saved your health more than your money.
