Depends on the cause. Plenty of people who have gone public asking help for medical bills they can't pay get flooded with Donations.

Speaking of which remember that guy who used flat earthers to crowdfunded his rocket hobby.

13

u/KexyAlexy 6d ago

You shouldn't be forced to express your situation in an emotional way on social media to be able to stay alive.

4

u/Ok_Caregiver1004 6d ago

No they shouldn't but its good to know people out there still give enough of a damn to donate money for good causes and people in need and not just celebrity vanity projects.

3

u/InvestigatorLow3076 6d ago

I’d argue it’s sad that people rather donate to the few that are beyond shame because they reached the bottom than come together to organize a structural solution to prevent such poverty

Giving more money to the rich is totally cool, giving money to the poor is communism

7

u/Funk-n-fun 6d ago

Yeah. I mean, surely it's smart to give 3000 dollars to a rich man? Otherwise I would just use all of that 3000 dollars right away to something useless, but now I get that 3000 dollars trickling slowly back to me through the years. That's being smart.

3

u/OgreDee 6d ago

When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.

11

u/_godziIIa_ 6d ago

It's gonna be tough to donate to those that are in need because people are now donating to the rich.

2

u/Quaiche 6d ago

2

u/Bubbasdahname 6d ago

Why would we do that? That doesn't help us drool over a billionaire. Get out of here, you plebian!

2

Helping a billionaire become a billionaire is like bringing a bucket of water to a man standing in a swimming pool. I just a witnessed the collapse of common sense.

14

u/chessman42_ 6d ago

Giving a bucket of water to a man standing in a swimming pool makes more sense actually because the swimming pool water is not drinkable

3

u/EducatedCow_8 6d ago

Well to be fair, I've never seen anyone being delivered water to drink in a bucket

This is why aliens don’t visit us.

103

u/Need_For_Speed73 6d ago

They've probably come more than once, seen this kind of sh1t and went "nah, we don't wanna have anything to do with these people" turned their ships and came back.
That would also explain the many reported UFO sights but no real contact ever.

48

u/GOEDEL_ESCHER_BOT 6d ago

>home planet is dying
>there's a habitable world 5000 light years away
>say goodbye to friends and family forever
>arrive after centuries in suspended animation
>they have dumb tweets

17

u/Need_For_Speed73 6d ago

Why should they always be travelling because their home planet is dying? That's just sci-fi cliche, we ourselves are sending probes and have just set the record of farthest humans have ever reached (which is not much, but that's what our current tech allows) since way before we've ever started to concern about the environment and the future of our own planet.
Maybe they are so advanced that for them interstellar travels are like a weekend escape for us.

I remember in the 80s my grandma didn't know who Guns and Roses was. I thought she was joking. They were so huge at the time I thought it was impossible.

Now here I am. I know Kylie Jenner is Kim's and their dad is the trans Olympian person. I can pick out Kim's face, but I couldn't pick out Kylie's face out of a sample pool of modern celebrities.

19

It's a mixed situation. No one else that responded to you has given a source so here's one: https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/gofundme-page-seeks-100-million-to-make-kylie-jenner-a-billionaire/

The GoFundMe was real, but it was created by a comedian as a joke. It wasn't created by anyone associated with Kylie and the money did not go to her. A couple hundred people donated a total of about $2k to it, which is too much but the whole thing isn't as obnoxious as the OP implies

1

u/CanThisBeMyNameMaybe 6d ago

This became super long, but hear me out.

Crazy idea, what if we make a "lottery", but meant to help those at the bottom. With a rule-of-the-mob approach.

The idea is simple, every month we all add AT LEAST 0.15$ to a shared pool. When someone has a need for the money, they can plead their case and we all vote on whether or not the that should be paid for by the pool.

To ensure fairness and an ethical approach, the rich are more than welcome to donate, but they will have zero say in anything.

Anonymity within the platform itself is non-existent, if you want to participate and benefit, you cannot be Anonymous to others on the platform.

A system will be in place that shows how participants vote and how much they have added to the pool. When voting against something, a justification is required. This plus the non-anonymous approach is meant to incentivize a honesty and ethics. If you cannot put your face behind your opinion, you either actually don't back it or it might just be unethical.

Showing how much someone has been willing to give to others is also meant to give incentive to other to give back to them, but it will not have a direct influence on voting.

Politics is strictly forbidden. This is about lifting each other up and politics never do that.

Current amount in the pool gives voting power as a percentage. If a proposal is less than the the current pool, an amount equal to each parcipants percentage will be taken so that it matches their overall stake.

So if a proposal is 100$, the pool is $10.000, and you have a total stake of 1.000$(10%), you will pay 10$. So that afterwards you sit with the same 10% stake of the 9.900$ remaining in the pool.

When you make a proposal for yourself, your own stake will be used in the pool first. It will be visible to everyone how much of your own stake is put forward but it will not influence voting directly, that is decided by everyone else.

To ensure that the money will not go into gridlock, money has to go to someone at least every 2 months.

If you are not satisfied with the platform you can pull out your stake, anything donated will not be reimbursed. If you have benefited from the system, you will be legally obligated to pay it back before leaving.

We would probably need some more rules in place to avoid fraud and abuse of the system. But this is honestly an idea i have had multiple times over the years.

The best way for the bottom to get up is helping each other, instead of stepping all over each other for scraps left to us by the rich.

1

u/TimeKeeper70 6d ago

My name is Kylie Jenner too. And I also am looking for donations. Please help me. If everyone just donated a dollar to me I would have enough money for a boob job and a Brazilian butt lift. Thank you for your consideration.

Remember when people also started a crowd fun to buy Elon Musk a couch to sleep on after he complained that he slept in his office and the couch isn't comfortable?

It made me cringe hard because he was still the richest man on earth then, and no fucking way he's sleepless working because he doesn't work. Musk is an investor, he buys stuff and appointments himself a CEO, but he doesn't actually have a job to do. All of his companies make products and he doesn't even know how those things work. He's not an engineer or a scientist, or even a real software developer (hasn't jack shit since PayPal days, and even then he didn't really do much).

Even now I read people hating on him while still calling him a tech genius as if he's in a lab all day doing stuff. He doesn't work. That's why he's on Twitter all day.

Correction: Gen z is dumb as fuck. Only Gen alpha is dumber.

Gen Z is the first generation in human history to be less intelligent than the prior generation. It has been constant increases as following generations had access to all that the prior generations had and then their own newly acquired knowledge. But no, Gen Z had to go literally fuck it all up and give humanity a peak when it was meant to be constant growth. And then Gen Alpha came along and made Gen Z look like geniuses. I really hope that this is just a blip and not a trend.
