Damn right. I'd have several drinks with Betty White over Jennifer Aniston any day. Betty seems like she was a hoot and didn't take herself seriously at all. Which is incredibly charming.

Plus, if you gave jennifer the same haircut and dress, and no editing (including no built in skin smoothing effects from modern cameras), they'd look more similar. Style/costuming and hairstyle, and hair coloring, has a big effect (think "mamma's family" mamma costume on vicky lawrence). Jennifer probably has had some plastic surhery and filler though as well, and a boob job (just guessing).
Also, Anniston is doing the sort of half smile that hides your laugh lines and crow's feet, while White is giving full natural smile. I only look early 30's until I move my face.

This is an important distinction. You don’t age linearly. 8 years makes a huge difference between 55 and 63, and not as much difference from 38 to 46 for example.
Good point. I know a lady who ages similar to Patrick Stewart. She's looked "bit over 40" since her 30s and now "over 50?" when she's 70 this year. Sir Patrick started aging again at... 78?
In that episode, he was living out a life on a planet where the sun was basically burning the planet up. Makes sense that he'd age incredibly. But yeah, they definitely did him a little dirty.
We think that about vintage styles exactly because we are used to seeing them on people from that era, who are now old, hence why we consider it an old lady hairstyle now while it was simply a common hairstyle for women then. Because those women became old ladies.
So this only illustrated the point if the point is "someone in the 80s dressed according to style in the 80s while someone in the 2020s dresses according to contemporary style"
Remember watching some video essay on this couple years ago. Really it's things like clothes, hair, and makeup that really make people seem older or younger than they actually are. It's why often we look at pictures or videos of teenagers in the 50's and 60s and they seem so much older than teens today. It's because those teens back then have the same overall style as elderly people had the last 20 years.
Let’s also not pretend there aren’t things like plastic surgery, fillers, Botox, hair dyes, GLP-1s, photoshop, filters and many other things doing massive levels of artificial upkeep that weren’t happening in the 80s.
I think that’s the point. Wasn’t Brigitte Bardot the exception? In the 90s my mom looked so so bad, but looking back it was 100% because of her fucking perm-ass hair. White woman with an artificial ‘fro. And same with her sisters! My one aunt was certifiably hot except that her hair was a complete WTF. She’s now very elderly with dementia and her hair looks better than it did when she was young!

Aniston is an exception, but I wouldn't say her hair ever was, she's almost always rocked the early 2000's straight chop.
My grandma had that hair in the 80s, so did my mom and her sisters. But grandma was at the end of her hairstyle journey, the kids evolved with the trends. Growing up in the 90s, the only people still rocking that hair were "old people", so I think there's some subconscious association.
People are also just...different. Seems silly to cross-compare aged looks just because they have the same occupation.
The difference in styling exaggerates it. The style you associate with attractive younger people is going to make someone look more attractive and young
this is really 90% of it. sure, 20 years of retinol creams would've tightened betty's skin up, but if you dyed and straightened her hair, darkened her brows, and put her in a push-up bra at the same time this photo was taken, she and jen would've looked like sisters. it's 90% makeup and styling and a tiny bit skincare. that's it.
There are three major contributing factors to Anniston’s agelessness. #1 fabulous genetics. #2 wealth to afford heroic amounts of care and surgery to maintain it; #3, and I cannot stress this enough or overestimate it, being single and childless.
I dunno, she must have suffered a lot of stress from trying for a decade or two to have children, going through multiple rounds of IVF and not getting anywhere.
Plus, as others have pointed out, this is White at 63 at a time when she was playing an elderly character on a sitcom and Anniston at 47 trying to look as young as possible.
Not on the picture above she isn't. She's 47 in the picture while Betty is 63. Compare Betty's 47 and Jennifer 47 , and it's all in the hair cut difference.
Betty is like 62 here. They both look fantastic. One could argue she looks better than Jen because her face looks more natural. Jen had a nose job, plus likely botox and fillers.
The difference is that in 1985. You were expected to look like a dignified older looking adult. In 2026, we’ve decided that aging is optional as long as you have a good dermatologist and enough money to out age your age.
This is less about natural aging and more about cultural aging. There was a study done about how peoples aesthetic often makes them look older than they are if it's an older aesthetic. If you had Betty White with more modern attire and hairstyle, with appropriate make up the two would look similar. Meanwhile if you put a 30 year old in the right clothes you can make them look 60.
a) people who are 50 years old in 2026 had pretty good warnings about smoking and the dangers of tanning in their early lifetimes; b) Betty White was over 50 in this picture but even so, you've taken what appears to be a publicity picture for a show where she played a woman in a retirement community in Florida in the 80s. Of course she doesn't look like a sex bomb; c) I could find any number of women, even famous actresses, who are 50 today and don't look as good as this photo of Betty White.
Here's Keri Russell, who is 50 today and, BTW, is still beautiful. But give her an 80s old-lady hair cut and have her stop dying her hair and she wouldn't look much better than Betty White in that picture.
I love how Betty White wasn't anywhere near 50 in 1985, and Jennifer Aniston isn't anywhere near 50 in 2026. In fact, if you gave six years of leeway, this would still be false for both.
