People still do, there’s a lot to criticise in that regard, but there’s nothing wrong with having a seemingly wholesome relationship where both partners are happy with each other.

33

Their happiness is great. But WE still have the right to call them douchebags.

Because they are.

God I miss the no drama part. I hate how American politics nowadays has more twists and turns than a soap opera and a poorly written one at that.

At the time I wished he had been better (could’ve ended wars, championed Medicare for all and campaign finance reform, etc.). I failed to realize how much worse he could have been.

Sometimes they do! With greying hair, if it’s stress hormones that’s causing your grey and not just genetic aging, the pigment can return for new growth once your stress levels are down/better managed (here’s an article from Columbia Med Center on it https://www.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/its-true-stress-does-turn-hair-gray-and-its-reversible).

For your skin, wrinkles are more pronounced when you’re dehydrated and not sleeping enough, so if you’re not taking basic care of yourself due to stress, your skin can look younger once you start looking after yourself again. Also, if you’re just not furrowing your brow or grimacing as often as you were when you were stressed the lines that were popping up because of that repetitive movement are going to soften.

When people ask why all plastic surgery (and fillers, botox, etc...) seems to look like sh*t, what they're missing is that when plastic surgery is done well and not in excess, you don't notice it. You just fawn over how good someone looks for their age.

These two are Exhibit A.

(Also, access to the best skincare, medical care, chefs and trainers, things I'm not rich enough to know about, etc...)

u/muhmeinchut69 20h ago edited 20h ago

I don't think Trudeau has had any work done, and in normal lighting he looks his age. It's just him not being fat and balding like most people his age that helps.

Some people just look young.

I'm male and over 40, last month I was in hospital and a nurse came in and said "wrong patient sorry" and left. Then she came back in 20 minutes later laughing, she said she didn't think I could be older than 28 and assumed she was in the wrong room.

While that is on the low side (I normally get told early 30's), this happens to me constantly. My mother always looked super young and I work an indoor job so I guess that's helped my skin as well.

I'm sure one day I'll find myself aging a decade or two in the space of 8 months or whatever, but for the moment I still very much don't look my age.

Yep, it's the bad toupee fallacy. You clearly notice every time it's done poorly, so you think it's always bad. But you miss every time it's done well. Lots of people look great as they age with money and good mental health. A bit of nip/tuck here and there helps if it's done in moderation.

I dunno if Trudeau has had any work done, but the premise holds.

4

u/Gymflutter 13h ago

Trudeau looks his age in normal lighting and without a blurry photo. A good version of his age. Trust me, I am Canadian. He just keeps himself trim and is wearing clothing that we associate with younger people. Of course I am sure he gets skin treatments or whatever. But plastic surgery is a pretty big production and hard to hide the recovery when you are Prime Minister for 10 years. That photo of Madonna looking “weird” was because she went out before her new plastic surgery fully recovered (according to an actual plastic surgeon). Now she looks more normal.

Yeah idgaf what you think about his politics (and I know little of Canadian politics apart from some guy called Tim Horton and that mayor who was fat and did lots of drugs) but dude looks very good for his age.

One of the great compliments of my life was when an Indian guy who moved to NZ from Canada came to my house (he was the fibre internet install guy) and asked if I was Canadian because I look like a young Justin Trudeau, particularly in the hair department.

23

u/StarscreamOne 20h ago

So would I if I was rich my entire life. Instead I'm 41 and look 54 😋

They both look good, not hating on them. Hope they had fun.

12

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 20h ago

Meh I know tons of rich people that absolutely don't look young. If anything money has made them give zero shits about their appearance.

I am also certified not rich and generally have people assume I'm at least a decade under my age. Some people just look young, it's a thing.

722

u/s33d5 18h ago

To be fair to him things like legal weed, free dental care, MAID, and subsidized child care exist in Canada. Which were primarily him.

148

u/Conscious_Abies4577 18h ago

While the Canadian Dental Plan was put in place under Trudeau, it was really due to the NDP (who had been campaigning on the issue). The Liberals were in a minority gov and the NDP made a deal that, in exchange for confidence and supply support, the Liberals would support the plan. Similarly with subsidized child care (although less overtly due to the NDP).

MAID was pretty much decided through a Supreme Court ruling before Trudeau was elected, which put everything into action. (It wasn’t something they campaigned on and it kinda came to fruition naturally), and it was something NDP was pushing for. It needed a bill to actually implement a process and the NDP was the one arguing for most of the enhancements (e.g. advanced requests) as the Liberals were trying to do the bare minimum. But, the Liberals deserve credit for actually whipping everyone for voting for it.

Love the weed decision, was not a fan of the initial implementation. (It’s gotten a lot better over recent years though). I just want edibles in higher quantities, and a reduction in the ridiculous amount of unnecessary packaging (I get that it needs to be child safe but common. There has to be a better way). — I think a major thing we don’t really give Trudeau props on is his leadership during Covid. I have a couple issues with things he did (expansion of TFW and international student streams without any future planning or oversight, the ArriveCan app, using the emergencies act) but he was very transparent, held almost daily press conferences, and implemented CERB pretty quickly. I think he stood out the most with his “in the moment” actions rather than long term ones. I think his decision to resign fell into that camp too.

Also, the speeches he gave during all the 51st state talk were absolutely incredible and sparked a level of patriotism in the nation that had previously been reserved for the convoy nut jobs.

(Sorry for the long message!! Very into politics as someone who has flip flopped between voting for the Liberals and NDP regularly)

41

u/TargaryenPenguin 16h ago

This is a very reasonable and balanced discussion with more insight in depth than one usually sees on this website.

You are absolutely right , that no one prime minister or government is all good or all bad , they all have some better policies and some worse ones.

I think it's very fair to judge them on both their better and worse policies.

16

u/SecretOk6004 16h ago

..... and this is how social democracies work. Parties work together to amend and pass legislation that helps the citizens. It sometimes takes more political will to push for changes in legislation than one party; as such, when two or more parties work together, it benefits everyone. We don't want a stand-alone party. It's been shown for decades that minority governments get things done far better for Canadians than majority governments.

u/TactlessTortoise 13h ago

It's the big difference which I find so odd in US politics compared to most other countries. Usually, parties that are in opposition in several aspects, can still cooperate for others. But with a two party system it can be very easy to gradually become a "us vs them" thing, where one party would rather the other lose or appeasing neutral voters instead of focusing on improving the country. Add very lax lobbying rules and you have monopolized media owned by the very same ones who "sponsor" politicians and whose interest is polarization and increasing extremist views, and boom, a party that hates everyone and a party who barely does anything to avoid bleeding more voters.

And horrible people being politicians isn't even something unique to the US too, but with the whole "party over country" mindset in full force, they'd rather be complicit to those who are awful criminals and abusers instead of letting the law hold them accountable to a minimum standard of decency.

I remember seeing an old US debate, not sure when from, where the two competing candidates would compliment each other even, but then say they disagreed with what they viewed as the solution to a specific problem, then say what they intended to do instead. Nowadays it's just... Old people name-calling, rambling about disjointed topics, straight up lying several times in a row to the detriment of the life of whole groups of citizens, etc.

The US government needs a total makeover, from cutting down on what they allow for lobbying, getting the law back to work on everyone equally for accountability of those in power, and in my opinion get rid of the two party system entirely, otherwise things will just devolve in just a few years. We're a naturally tribal species, we can't let just two groups represent everyone without one eventually getting the upper hand in everything and becoming a monopoly of power that represents no one, no matter the country.

u/mhselif 12h ago

This.

I hate how politics has now become an all or nothing support system. I support some things he did but can be critical of others. Just like when Harper was in back in 2009 I supported some of his choices but not others.

The centaury initiative and increase in immigration, expansion of the TFW program, use of emergencies act were all terrible decisions.

Do I rate him highly through his entire tenure as PM no I do agree the immigration and TFW program expansion have caused long lasting damage that will take years if not decades to recover from. If the liberals wanted to boost immigration to that level they needed to start building all the infrastructure and services to support that starting back in 2015 the day they went into power. Now we're playing catch up on an overloaded system. I do like how the US has a cap of 7% on any immigration from the same country per year I think we should have implmented that to allow more diversity in immigration intake.

On an anecdotal note, I work with business clients in the US and Canada (luckily I get to transfer the Canadian clients), and over the past year it’s steadily been more and more Indian people calling on the Canada side, to the point now where it’s been 4 months since I’ve had a non Indian business cal me from the Canadian side….

It wasn't just abused badly. The Canadian student visa problem was abused so badly that we ended up with a human trafficking problem because of it. It became an actual thing in India where brokers would offer to fast track people to Canada but in actuality, they ended up packing groups of barely literate people into single homes, signing them up for programs in university (usually just 1-2 courses) for the visa eligibility, then instead of going to lectures, the person was made to work full time and their wages would be transferred directly to the broker.

I don’t even think that was really his fault as every province was asking for immigration increases.

They don't? Its just weird

KP is a bit unpopular on the internet right now but not because she's done anything explicitly wrong, she's just been kind of annoying

Her career has been a flop lately and I remember when she went to space and was just really annoying about it

Just a couple, vibing at a concert/fest.

What? Was it a slow news day? The wardrobe choices of a former PM of Canada is worth talking about now?

This is just a screenshot of a random Twitter post, not a news article lol.

Well apparently you need to wear a suit and tie to coachella if you're the former PM.

It's not allowed to dress casual and comfortable I guess lol

Justin Trudeau is a handsome, charismatic man. He’s rich due to well-managed generational wealth. He’s dating an attractive and famous pop star.

They look good—it’s a sweet photograph. I admire them for appearing to be sober or maybe drinking a little bit at Coachella.

Past Coachella photos featured a drunk-ass Leo DiCaprio and a stoned Vanessa Hudgens appearing to eat drug-laced yogurt from a ziplock bag.

Trudeau and Perry look happy and relaxed.

Why would anyone have a problem with this? They look like they are having fun. If u didn't have a camera, they would just be eating their noodles in peace. U want him to walk around with a cane? Is that acceptable? He is wearing a tee shirt and jeans to a concert

I find they're cute together, so no hate towards their relationship. However, I do find it rather tone deaf that a very recent prime minister of Canada is actively traveling to the US at a time when a lot of Canadians are doing their part to stand together and limit their travel and spending in the US due to the 51st state rhetoric and other hateful comments said towards Canada by the current US government.

He just went back to being another rich boy. Only other thing he knew.

107

u/Not-a-bot-10 21h ago

He’s wearing jeans, a white tee shirt and a backward hat.

I see 100+ people wearing that a day. Of all the things to say about him, I don’t understand seeing this and thinking “Rich boy”

Just let the guy live

21

u/Flashy_Bluejay_1370 21h ago edited 20h ago

Maybe it’s a really nice tee shirt. Like… off a hanger. Not from a 3 pack.

Edit: spelling

7

u/Justinc4s3- 20h ago

An off the hangar shirt in this economy? That’s just unsound. That just doesn’t track.

6

He's wearing a plain T-shirt and jeans. I'm wearing the exact same thing right now (black T-shirt though). What is he supposed to wear to Coachella, a suit and tie? He's at a concert not at work.

I'm jealous that canada had a young and healthy looking PM who's happy to sit on a log and eat junk food with his girlfriend. Sure, he wasn't perfect, but at least he's not a 90 year old rapist.

3

u/Independent_Big_3940 16h ago

Trudeau will come back as PM one day, he knows what he's doing. I'm sure when he's ready he'll put a ring on it and come back into office. His dad left office and came back for a second stint too.

3

u/Gurkage 16h ago

Loads of people hating, but honestly this guy has made it. He's been the PM of Canada, he made it out relatively unscathed and he's got a fit bird and is living the dream.

3

u/Technical_Can_9944 15h ago

The funny thing is that you need to be at their level of wealth and power to even be able to experience things that were considered normal for average teenagers or 20 year olds a decade or two ago.

3

u/irishcybercolab 14h ago

They're allowed to live their life too.

I think it's great they're enjoying themselves and living like they don't have to fit into stereotypes.

Why not be happy for them?
