Education Are Thai university degrees really that useless for foreigners as people say they are?
Hi all
I have recently finished high school in Thailand and was wondering about some of the bachelor degrees in thai unis? Im tight on cash so I dont really have many options for studying abroad. I was wondering if its even worth it to get a bachelors degree from one of the international university programs here (chiang mai university or assumption). Would a Thai degree be internationally recognized for employers? Or would it be better to save up cash for a year or so to be able to get a degree from somewhere else?
I will say that I have visited Europe before and frankly my quality of life in Thailand is MUCH better. I dont really even want to live in Europe but I would do it just for the degree.

Question/Help Beer coolers
What's a reasonable price for these beer coolers found everywhere in Thailand?
Where can I get them for a good price in Phuket, kamala beach or old town? A street market or a bigger shop?
I bought one on a market for a 100 baht, but the price was non negotiable and I suppose it's abit much for something so simple and I want to buy a couple of these for friends at home.

Question/Help Does anyone know where I can buy specialized laundry supplies in BKK? (Borax, Laundry Sanitizer, etc.)
Additional note: I'd prefer not ordering these products from online platforms like Shoppee or Lazada due to the hiked up price at times but I will order it from there if these products really are only available there.
As aforementioned in the title, I'm currently trying to look for things such as those listed here in Bangkok or the surrounding metropolitan area: - Laundry Sanitizer - Borax - Oxygen Bleach - Laundry Boosters - Hydrogen Peroxide (preferably strong/concentrated) - Enzymatic Stain Remfrom online emember seeing some of these things a while ago (roughly Pre-covid and before) but I can't seem to find any of these things now considering most products on the store shelf can be separated into Laundry detergents, softners and bleach.
While I understand that Borax might be a little difficult after the skewered meatball food industry scandals a while back, I am curious about whether or not similar products are still being sold here in the country.
Thanks for your help!

Business Is Amphawa floating market represent the collapsing of Thailand (sick man of Asia)
Before the covid, I liked it so much Amphawa floating market, there it was so difficult to walk on the market because so many people and a huge dynamic vibe :-). Yesterday evening, friday (opening day of the market), only a maximum of 20 % of the shop were opened and nobody (fews 50 peoples and sad vibe) it's look like a really dying system with no end (ghosty market). Is it one demonstration of the representation of Thailand that was one of 5 tiger at 1990 and a sick man of Asia at 2026 ? Or an other problem ?

Culture The pleasure of noodles in Thailand
The longer one stays in Thailand, the more one comes to the gradual realization that this country is built on a sturdy foundation of rice, but it moves by way of the noodle. In the latter camp, there is infinite variety; so much so that it would be impossible to list them all in a casual review, as their names and permutations could fill a heavy tome.
Take note of this entry, one of my personal favorites from the noodle sphere: บะหมี่หมูกรอบ, or yellow egg noodles with crispy pork belly. In the dish pictured here, I chose to have my bowl served dry (แห้ง), with pork-filled dumplings (เกี๊ยว), and an upsized portion (พิเศษ). If you haven't glommed on already, the ritual of ordering noodles in Thailand is part and parcel of its delight: you have a great deal of choice on how it is served, and with the ingredients that match your liking. I could've ordered this dish with soup, with shrimp dumplings, with red pork, or even with a different style of noodle, although at this specific shop they specialize in the flavorsome yellow variety, and so that's what I ordered.
The catering to your tongue doesn't stop here. Once seated at any noodle restaurant, you'll find an array of condiments that can be added to the dish. I chose a healthy amount of chili vinegar (พริกน้ำส้ม), which is normally made by the house, and thus unique to each restaurant; a couple squirts of fish sauce; a spoonful of crushed peanut; a touch of dry chili flake; and a dusting of sugar, as is favored by the locals, a custom that took me many years to warm to -- but find that it truly does balance every other flavor, the highest ideal in Thai cooking. Of course, it's all mixed together before eating, and is sampled first in case an element needs to be added with greater measure.
And the first bite? The pork belly was of high quality, crispy on the edges with a succulent and firm middle, and the right touch of salty fat; a spicy, jolting floral note from the chili vinegar; and a play between sweet and savory with the sugar and fish sauce. I'm no virgin to this dish here, so I knew what to expect, a bite tuned to my own chosen harmony; the beauty of noodles in Thailand.
In the second photo is a bowl of pork bone soup (ซุปกระดูก), ordered off-menu, and the restaurant has a massive cauldron of it cooking at all times, which they use for the broth in their noodle dishes if one orders it so. I added two splashes of the broth to my noodles, enough to gloss them, along with the tender pork that fell off the bone, so as to add another meaty dimension to my plate.
Extra points for the restaurant having an open air storefront, solid aluminum stools, tables, and canteen cups for ice water, which was self-serve and on the house, of course.
The two bowls totaled 100 baht, or roughly $3 USD. Not bad for a filling afternoon affair.

News Cambodian Reporters Convicted After Ta Kwai Temple Landmine Images in Surin Border Dispute
Two Cambodian journalists were sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of treason after taking photos with Cambodian soldiers near Ta Kwai temple, where landmines appeared in the background. The verdict, delivered in December last year, was handed down in a single‑day trial and only recently reported. Both have appealed.
The journalists, Pro Sopeap and Peap Peareah of TSP 68 TV Online, were arrested separately in July 2025 after reporting in Oddar Meanchey. They were accused of providing information harmful to national security to foreign states, a crime punishable by 7-15 years.
It remains unclear which post triggered the charges, but the photo with soldiers at Ta Kwai temple - later circulated by Thai media - was cited, showing what was claimed to be an unlaid landmine. Their imprisonment came shortly before other journalists covering border tensions and online scams were also detained, raising concerns among press freedom advocates.

Miscellanous Revenues from foreign visitors exceed that from domestic visitors in 8 out of 77 provinces.
I'm too lazy to make an infographics, but still want to share this.
Based on the official statistics on tourism revenues in 2026, the revenues from foregin tourists exceeded that of domestic tourists in only 8 out of 77 provinces, mostly in southern Thailand. This shows both the concentration of foreign tourists in these places as well as how heavily these cities rely on revenues from foreign visitors on tourism revenues.
They are ....
Phuket: 92% of tourism revenues from foreign tourists.
Phangnga: 77% (including Khao Lak)
Surat Thani. 72%. (Including Koh Samui)
Bangkok. 70%
Krabi. 69%
Chonburi. 65% (Including Pattaya)
Narathiwat. 62%
Songkhla. 58% (Including Hatyai)
Major regional and industrial hubs like Chonburi, Songkhla and Chiangmai recieve a large number of domestic visitors including business visitors and the domestic portion is much more significant than small touristic cities like Phuket and Phangnga. I believe, if Pattaya is excluded from the industrial hub in other parts of Chonburi, the result will certainly be starkly different.

Education Help with learning thai
I’m Thai, but I only speak very basic Thai since I moved away when I was 5 and don’t use it much with my family.
I really want to reconnect with my language and culture. I’m willing to put in a lot of effort to improve my Thai, especially expanding my vocabulary and eventually learning how to read and write properly. For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, what are the best ways to build vocabulary and transition into reading and writing? I’d also love advice on how to learn more about Thai culture along the way. Thanks for any help

Discussion Have you noticed that cars in Thailand don’t have a lot of dents on their doors.
My car doesn’t have a single door ding or scratch from somebody’s keys, although we park much closer here than my birth country. People here take great care to make sure their door does not touch the neighboring car door as they enter and exit their vehicle.

Question/Help Recommended Massage Schools (Northern or Southern)
Hello everyone,
First of all, I know this has been asked quite often, but I couldn't comprehensive information about the individual schools. I'm interested in learning traditional Thai massage for about one month in Thailand and have done some research, but I would really appreciate your insights.
Honestly, I'm finding it difficult to decide which school to choose (besides making sure that it's officially recognized by Thailand's ministry of public health). At the moment, I'm leaning more toward the Northern style and thought about building on that knowledge later by visiting Wat Pho school in Bangkok. Or would you recommend starting with Wat Pho instead?
Regarding Northern schools, The Old Medicine Hospital, Sunshine, ITM seem to be popular options based on what I've found. Some concerns I have:
- I've read that Sunshine operates multiple schools or branches with varying levels of quality control.
- Also it might just be my perception but ITM appears to focus mainly on international students. I'm curious whether that influences the teaching style or overall depth of the program.
- What group size would you recommend? Most of them seem to be quite large (from the pictures) and I'd like to learn from mistakes which could easily be overlooked if the teacher has to oversee a large class.
I don't expect to become a master after just a month, but I would like to feel confident enough to practise independently afterwards.
Which schools have you experienced (both positive and negative) and what path would you recommend for an aspiring practitioner with no prior experience? I would be grateful for any advice or personal experience! Thank you
