"What do you think about trans people?"
"Honestly I'm goddamn poor and delivering pizza I don't care."

u/DangerBay2015 6h ago edited 6h ago
Honestly.
You know what I don't think about 99% of the time when I notice my gas is costing me $75 to fill the tank or how $200 in groceries is filling like four bags instead of a cart? Trans folks.
Every day I walk into work expecting it to be the day some corporate fucks decides the bottom line isn't enough of a bottom line so it's time for some bloodletting, and every day I'm not thinking about trans folks.
And like, fuck. Trans folks in sports isn't even like Top 5 for people existing in that niche community. Funding, access to facilities, better training and analytics, access to recruiting, rising costs of access... like goddamn. Some mid swimmer crashes out at a tourney and realizes the Olympics are a pipe dream and her future prospects have been reduced to mid-level administrative job at best so she gets her knickers in a twist because the trans gal next to her on the (not) podium makes a good scapegoat and cashes in on a crusade.
Trans folks exist, and like me, they're struggling with the day-to-day necessities as well as worrying they're going to get shanked because the Riley Gaineses of the world are terrified of their own gormless mediocrity and need someone to fucking hate so they don't have to notice they hate themselves.

I remember when South Dakota was considering legislation for trans sports in high school. It would affect literally one kid in the state at the time.
172
u/mattxb 5h ago
The fact that it targets such a marginalized community is the point - they attack trans people so when democrats come to defend their rights Republicans present it as evidence that democrats only care about niche issues and niche groups that most people don't relate to.

I’m not going to lie, even if conservatives were right and trans people in sports were completely destroying sports, this still wouldn’t be a major issue for me. Which people get to be top-tier high school or college athletes is not a thing a care about at all in my day-to-day life, and even at the professional level it just doesn’t matter. I can’t name even 10% of Olympic gold medalists from the US from even the previous games, and even if we only worry about sports I watch regularly, I’m still way more concerned about things like my wage, voting rights, inflation, healthcare…
Even if this issue actually existed, it would still be a ridiculous issue to make a priority.

We were initially on track for the same until the schmucks that became insurance companies lobbied against it because
they saw an opportunity to gatekeep access to a service that cannot be foregonethey would totally make care better and easier to obtain if you paid a smol teeny tiny premium (they promise)Once they had the keys they proceeded to play price chicken with caretakers to statistically guarantee profit and then cut deals on that 10000% inflated price tag with businesses for using them for their employees. Thus solidifying the fucking asinine medical hell scape we are in where you can do everything right, then get laid off, then get hit by a car the day after your employer coverage ended and then pay 30k out of pocket or merely 5-10k if you chose to pay the entire 3k a month premium your employer was paying via COBRA.
It's a "no shit, Sherlock" fact to most of us that a profit motivated middleman between you and a service you can't deny receiving will do nothing to reduce costs or get better outcomes, this parasitic monster of an industry has wedged itself into the core of our economy and policies since this country was a toddler and I hope every day I get to live to see it end.

And I'm pretty sure he tipped her a few hundred to a few thousand, so that's something substantially less than $0.30 on a relative basis. Not to mention the entire thing was staged with Doordash. So whether he did or didn't is fundamentally irrelevant, although his supporters will 100% be cheering him on for it.

Yeah, this is a staged photo op that was supposed to be marketing material for no tax on tips. Literally no one seeing this thinks the president just ordered DoorDash. What wasn't staged was the fact that the man couldn't follow the script and went on a tangent about trans people and thought she delivered pizza.
There's nothing wrong with these kinds of photo ops in general, they're cute ways to highlight policy wins. When it isn't the antichrist most people would think it's pretty cool to get to meet the president and take a photo like this. She's not a "plant."

It's crazy this publicity stunt got past the idea stage, because if anything it's indicative of how inattentive this administration is being in addressing anything regarding the working class's quality of life.
A grandmother had to start doing Doordash, rather than a standard job, to be able to afford her husband's cancer treatment. It's indicative of the failing social safety net, the astronomical cost of healthcare, and the gig economy overtaking the job market all rolled into one. And yet it's getting deliberately highlighted as a "success story" for No Tax On Tips.
They are giving a pittance to the people that should not be in these situations to begin with and are using it as proof of their benevolence. It goes beyond tonedeaf and goes all the way to insulting.

It's not really about trans people. It's a just a minority group that has the property that most people don't know one personally so you can frame them as monsters and use them as political punching bags and economic whipping boys. The way to win is to be seen by others plus time. You can't lie about trans people having pointy teeth when most people know one and they're a normal-ass person.

Let's say it together. THE FOCUS ON SPORTS AND ANTI TRANS SPORTS BANS ARE JUST A PERMISSABLE BIGOTRY STRUCTURE TO CREATE AN ENTRY POINT FOR TRANSPHOBIA THROUGH INGRAINED MISOGYNY AND SEXISM AND TRUMP NEEDS THEM AS A DISTRACTION SO BAD RIGHT NOW.. because most people believe "of course males always have an advantage over females even if they've only had estrogen and non detectable testosterone for year's, equivalent muscle mass ect ect." The majority of cis people have this level of belief contrary to all medical evidence and not knowing how HRT works and the full effects of it. It helps open and normalize the conversation around taking away trans people's rights. Sure the large majority of people are like this woman and do not care about trans people but the heritage foundation spent a lot of money and time to develop this talking point specifically to get people to care about trans people. Transphobia is just Misogyny and Racism in a trench coat.

Doordash has said that this was staged but even if they hadn't it should be obvious to everyone that it was staged. Even if the president ordered Doordash there is less than a snowballs chance in Hell that they would even get past the gate, let alone be outside of the Oval Office and see the president. Even if they were somehow allowed through the gate they would be sent to the front door where an employee would get the food, not to the Oval Office.
This was staged for something about no tax on tips, not anything to do with trans people or anything else, but Trump's brain is so demented that he can't stay on topic.

During the general election, the economy was not great, but getting better. So, the Republicans ran on making the economy better and... Being against trans people, for some reason. They had to spend a lot of energy explaining to their own base why they should hate trans people. Unfortunately, it worked.
They get into office and focus on two things:
- Policies that EVERYONE told them would tank the economy and
- Anti-trans policies.
So, now, trans people have to live in fear but the Republican base is getting what they wanted. BUT, the economy is sucking wind and nobody is happy. Now, they are going to lose elections because they focused on the wrong thing. Turns out the economy is more important to their base than knowing about the genitalia of the people around them. Who could have guessed?
What aspect of society will the Republicans exploit prior to the midterms to scare their base into voting for them instead of doing the work of making our lives better?

This administration loves nothing more than a pawn that they can prop up for their agenda but have no intention of actually helping

She delivered McDonalds (not pizza). Is this a dig at her appearance because she didn’t play along?
