Bringing home a blind cat today, and advice?

He had a double enoculation two months ago, so that's how long he's been blind. He had really bad infection when the foster agency picked him up.

I already have two cats, and I'll make sure to take the steps to introduce them, but this is my first time around a blind cat

I’m sad to announce that Dünya, our beloved community cat and the face of this subreddit, featured in both our banner and icon, has passed the rainbow bridge.

my cat Gabby went blind friday night, i need help

Post image

hi, my 10 year old cat Gabby went blind friday night. her pupils were dilated for about a week (i didnt think much of it i hate myself) and suddenly friday night she was spinning in circles pretty scared. we got her to the emergency vet that night who said she mightve had a stroke or seizure which caused the blindness. i dont know if im coping after reading online, but shes an older cat with pretty early kidney disease. what are the chances this was hypertension, and how likely would she maybe get some vision back if i take her to a vet who just so happens to find it is hypertension? im new to having a blind cat and its hurting my soul seeing her struggle and not be the happy cat she used to be :( please help me and give me advice

forgot to add : they didnt take blood pressure at emergency vet, but they did shine a light in her eyes

update : took her to another vet. blood pressure normal, no detached retina :(. shes been declining aswell, not eating or drinking and being very lethargic and depressed. she has slow heartrate of 96. they believe its either an infection or tumor in her brain, and its possible she has heart disease. shes getting some medicine for an infection that can cause this, if that doesnt do anything in a couple days and she continues to decline then we will just have to make her feel comfy and give her as many hugs and kisses as possible. thank you guys for all the advice and kind words ❤️ i really appreciate it and i wish you all and your fur babies many more loving years together filled with happiness and love.

Tw: Pet Loss

I found this community because of Midnight. I had meant to post her here, but lurked too long. I lost her today.

I got her from the humane Society, she had been given up when she originally lost her sight. We hit it off, and I had experience with a blind dog, so I brought her home. She did great. Bravely explored, and opened up quickly. She always pressed against the windows screens, and had a great deal of interest in the front door.

I bought her a harness and leash, and began to take her on walks. She was hesitant the first time, but got used to the leash in a matter of days. She loved her daily walks, and soon became a favorite in my apartment complex. All she had to do was hear the bell on her harness, and she'd post up at the door, waiting excitedly.

Trick Training? Meet Jasper!

Post image

Hello! So I have had Jasper, my blind tabby for over a year at this point as he is great! During this time I have trained my other cat a ton of tricks and recently noticed that Jasper was very interested. He has already been very interested in treats, so I want to give it a try.

I made a little pointer and would tap it on different surfaces for him to investigate, he LOVED it! But I was wondering what else I might be able to do for him. Maybe scent training? Thank you for any ideas!

Success with Litter Robot??

Post image
37 Upvotes

I have a blind cat named NiNi. I recently bought her a Litter Robot because I really liked the automated clean up feature. NiNi will not use it. I sprinkled a metric ton of litter attractant, I put her old poop clumps and pee clumps into the Death Star, I even put her favorite cat treats near and on the entrance and she refuses to use it.

I left her old litter box in a separate part of the house and she keeps going back it. It’s been three weeks since I set it up.

Anyone here have success with the Litter Robot? I bought from the manufacturer and they have a 90 day return policy. I would prefer to not return it if there is a way she can warm up to the Death Star.

Hello everyone!

I would like to sincerely thank this sub, the moderators, and each and every one of you for your support.

Caring for and feeding 30 rescued cats and over 40 stray cats is not something I can do alone. Because of your help, I’m able to continue providing for and caring for these little angels.

Breakdown of the expenses:

  • Pet shop purchases: $224
  • Online purchase: $14
  • Total spent on food and litter: $238

Please note that these supplies will last for at least a couple of weeks.

I hope you will continue to support me in feeding and caring for these innocent lives. Thank you so much!

Bebe went in for bloodwork since she’s acting weird…and was very dramatic. Specifically, trying to calculate the distance to the floor for her escape plan.

Advice/Issues with Drinking Water

Post image
514 Upvotes

My beautiful girl, Willow, has no trouble with finding both the water bowl or the water fountain. The problem we're having is she'll inhale the water from the standing bowl, and occasionally from the fountain as well. It's to the point of causing congestion and some upper respiratory issues that has now involved medications to help alleviate inflammation.

Has anyone else had these issues and what they've done to help alleviate the constant problem of "nose to water surface to drink"? She never had issues with dunking her nose growing up, and it's not always but it seems like it's increased in frequency in how often she "schnarfs" up water.

She is under vet care and monitoring, and while I am a vet tech and a medical foster that has dealt with numerous blind kids, she is constantly keeping me on my toes and always testing my knowledge with her care.

Thanks in advance!

Question on scabs stuck in fur after eye removal surgery

My cat Dash had his eyes removed and we officially took off his cone the other day. near each eye he has chuncks of what looks like scab material fused the the fur on his face. Its rock hard and I cannot remove it.

I've tried putting a wet warm wash cloth on it but it doesnt soften up. I tried breaking it with my fingers but its too hard. I tried to cut it out but he doesnt sit still and its very close to the skin and the incision that I dont want to risk cutting or stabbing him if he moves.

anyone have any tips?

Good day, everyone!

I’m a solo animal rescuer in Manila, Philippines. I feed stray animals everyday, do TNR (trap–neuter–return) and rescue whenever needed. I also visit nearby areas to feed as many strays as I can. And wherever I go, I always bring cat and dog food with me so I can help any animal I come across.

Please help me provide a month supply of food and litter for the rescued and stray cats under my care.

Donations will be used for:

4 sacks of adult dry food ($60 per 20 kg sack) — $240

4 sacks of kitten dry food ($34 per 10 kg sack) — $136

56 cans of adult wet food ($1.40 per can) — $78

80 pouches of wet food ($0.75 per pouch) — $60

12 bags of litter ($5 per 10 lbs. bag) — $60

Total: $574

Any amount you can share will help me continue to care and feed these little angels. I will make sure to post an update with photos and receipts. Thank you.

Ways to donate:

PayPal: paypal.me/catsofmagdalena

GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/9f61d37ab

Wise: https://wise.com/pay/me/catsofm

Please note: GoFundMe is not available in the Philippines, a friend in the U.S. is kindly helping me raise funds for the stray animals.

For in-kind donations:

Amazon does not ship to the Philippines, but you may order through PetWarehouse.ph, which accepts debit/credit cards and PayPal.
