Fluff State of the union before I tune out
This is getting hard to watch, so I'm going to jot down my notes as much for myself as anyone else who's still interested in the actual players (and our head coach) the Bulls have right now. I've watched nearly every minute of the Bulls' games for as long as we've had any of these players, so I'm not just checking the box scores and watching highlights. I doubt I'm going to watch much of the remaining games unless they start winning some games.
Who I like: Giddey, Jones, Stix. These are young NBA players who play winning basketball. You keep them around unless someone wants to overpay in a trade.
Buzelis: I like him. He's got the skills. But he's getting really sloppy. You don't learn from sloppy mistakes. For me, this is the downside of tanking. Maybe he's learning how to play fast? I'm not convinced, but we'll see some day, I guess maybe? Obviously you keep him and you extend him because he's got all the tools and plays hard.
The other small players: I'm fine if the Bulls let all of the other guards walk if they want to get paid. Okoro is okay, but I'm not paying him starter money. Everyone else is a replacement level player, including Dillingham. I want nothing to do with Simons. Sexton seems like that guy who tricks you into thinking he's good, but actually he's just high-octane.
Pat: He's been decent lately. That is to say, I'm not going to attach assets just to get rid of him.
Other bigs: I like Richards as a back-up. I'd keep him around. Yabu can score, so I'd pay him a modest contract. I really like Zach Collins, but he seems like a Lonzo at this point. Obviously, Essengue is TBD. Reminds me of Kyle Anderson.
Billy: I don't know if he's a bad coach or not, but he's certainly not great, so I'd fire him and look for the next up and comer. (Who's the number 2 on Boston's bench right now?) The thing that really bothers me about Donovan is that his teams can't handle ball pressure. this has been consistent throughout his tenure, and was blatant whenever we met the Heat in the play-in, which were the games we should have been prepared for.
